  • good

  • One of my most genuine favorites.

  • ohh i like this version too but i wish it sounds a tad underproduced but i still love it! LIAF is better tho :p

  • this song you danced a lot .....

  • linn is not here...isn´t she??

  • i prefer life is a flower

  • I think i have this song archived somwhere in the depths of my computers

  • When I hear the song "Life is a Flower" on the charts of the radio I loved, then I buy the CD "Cruel Summer" and I say: What happend to my song!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have never heard the US version before, being from the UK. I was very confused at first but pleasantly surprised. I still think I prefer LIAF for the nostalgia factor, but I really like this too. On a total 90's Ace of Base/kick atm. Pure class.

  • A little bit sounds like 'Right Time' by The Corrs

  • @JoNapotPacak Corrs do the great job, they are really a perfect old style group with real instruments besides electronics which is absolutely replaced by dead plastic things these days.

  • I'm partial to this version... It's gets a bit funkier toward the end. I really think it could have been a moderate hit had radio actually played it!

  • puedes traducirla al español por favor?

You can translate it into Spanish please?

  • best wishes to all people who are in love...:)

  • lol it sounds a lot like "do you believe?" from Help! I'm a fish xD

  • This is the American Official version of Life Is A Flower, though in 1997 LIAF was released as a single in Argentina, never was recorded on the Cruel Summer album. After, in 2000, the US compilation of Singles Of The 90´s called Greatest Hits included Life Is A Flower and not WYNM!!!

    I love better LIAF!!!

Arista Records never liked LIAF becaused they considered it as TOO EUROPEAN for americans!

  • Life is A Flower was released in America too, on their "greatest hits". So, both versions were released in America, with the same melody. I like this one better.

  • I have this song from the original Cruel Summer CD & I live in America. It was released in America...or at least I certainly found a copy of it at Wal-Mart, back in my early 20's. The whole CD is great.

  • i love this song.. thx ace of base.. when i was 12, i was really crazy abt u..

  • Thank god I found this version, for years people thought I was crazy when I said there was 2 versions. But this proves it, I'M SANE, MWAHAHAHAHA

  • @alphaboi148 jajajajaja

  • i like life is a flower much more than this song.

  • Wow I wonder when this picture was taken since Jenny looks like a granny on it !

  • I love this song...I miss music from the 90's... dont get me wrong there are some good songs these days.. but it doesn't beat the 90's music for me!!!! love you ace of base... great song!

  • I love this song...I miss music from the 90's... dont get me wrong there are some good songs these days.. but it doesn't beat the 90's music for me!!!! love you ace of base... great song!

  • I almost want to HATE Jonas for being so fucking talented haha. Everything he touches turns to gold - NO - platinum!!!!

  • great song i didnt know this version

  • I love this song is better life is a flower....

  • Great song tho

  • This song makes me feel like I'm flying through the air with the warm sun on my face!

  • man i read the comments because i never ever heard of the american version of this song before "life is a flower" and i got to admint i didnt like it at all, it is like a ripoff of this one witch is 10 times better in every sense

  • I just got the Ace of Base Greatest Hits CD, It has the song LIFE IS A FLOWER...

  • The great message of "life is a flower" is lost in this alternate version. It seems lot more meningsless because it is changed into a cliché love song....

  • what a nice and beautiful alternate version of flowers :)

  • I very much liked this version of the song. I remember the cruel summer aka flowers album in 2000. I believe cruel summer reached #9, and Whenever Your Near Me was around #23 at the same time. The Life is a flower video is a carefree and fun video. I loved the production quality of the whenever your near me version.

  • wow every 1 types so much i dont even bother to read it

  • "Life is a Flower" was the release for the UK/Europe, and the original "version" of this melody and bassline... the record company felt that "Life is a Flower" was not as "tuned to an American ear" to be successful, so it was retooled and the lyrics changed... I like "Life is a Flower" better, myself, but I do have to admit that "Whenever You're Near Me" played better here, stateside... it is also a bit tighter in terms of melody and lyrics...

  • thank you for the good update.. hope that I am in the chance to purchase these missing albums at some music store -near me- or maybe on ebaj (j = y i dont want to post ads or spam) I hope I can get a real cd there... ( Also have to replace my real cd Flowers the album from ace of base, lend it to someone and then got it back and is no more readable (playable) probably torched with a knife all over the disc...

  • I didn't know that they released an "cruel summer" album??? (while typing I see that many other youtube user argue/ question the same about this) I thought that the "flowers" album the latest were and there-after came some greatest hits album?

could you give me an update and/ or correct me when I'm wrong

  • "Cruel Summer" was the American version of "Flowers." Ace of Base's U.S. record company felt that certain songs on the album wouldn't do well in America, so they were changed. Several songs were replaced with remixes, and "Life is a Flower" was replaced with this song.

(They released a fourth album, "Da Capo," in 2002, but only in continental Europe.)

  • also thank you for the usefull info about ace of base... hope that I have soon the complete collection in real fysical original cd format...

  • "Cruel Summer" was the version of "Flowers" released in the U.S., with different versions of some songs (He Decides, Donnie, Travel To Romantis, etc), and a "new" song (Everytime It Rains). They later released "Singles Of The 90's" (with 3 new songs) in Europe and "Greatest Hits" (with 1 new song) in the U.S., both compilation albums. A few years later "Da Capo" was released, their 4th studio album. Last year, "Greatest Hits, Classic Remixes, and Music Videos" was released, with 2 new songs.

  • ace of base is soo sweet music, i cannot get enough of their music I load it with pleasure to my ears for a good smile on my face ;-)

and many thanks for this answer to me question in the comment box, the three ( 3 ) answers together are helping me to know what kinda albums I haven't in home and thus wich I have buy / purchase to have it complete...

    greetings from Holland,

Have a nice day you people,

  • how come this sounds exactly the same as "life is a flower"

and the words are the same

Except i think life is a flower is better, did they just change the lyrics for the singles album

  • and its kind of confusing too because ive listened to LIAF liek eight million times. Why did they make a second version?

  • Comment removed

  • Clive Davis at their record label, Arista, thought LIAF was "too European in nature" for the United States.

  • this sounds a lot like life is a flower, just different lyrics.

  • i like both versions , when i went in france and i heard life is a flower , i was like: what??? and now like it too... loll

  • OMG....this is such a copy of Life is a flower...they should be sued.

  • thats the american Version of the same Group!! Life is a Flower is the European Version....

  • Sweetie, both Life is a Flower and Whenever You're Near Me are sung by the same group: Ace of Base. They would be suing themselves. LOL. One is the American version the other is the European version.

  • Most people prefer life is a flower ;)

  • If they're gay they prefer "Life is a Flower".

  • Typical american people to call everybody gay if the like a certain song.

    And no, im not gay.

  • Typical European douche to assume that just 'cause someone has an offensive opinion, he/she is automatically American.

  • its true both of you are idiots!!!!

  • I agree. Thats totaly stereotypical.

  • I havn't heard this since I was 16- a girl I used to date used to listen to this song over and over. Great memories from a simpler time.

  • I have to agree that this version is better. I also think that Life is a Flower sounds European.

  • i prefer life is a flower, but i also like this version

  • I like the lyrics and stuff for LiaF better, but the slightly higher production values and better mixing on this are great.

Ace Of Base are brill! I used to like All That She Wants as a kid and I bought Singles of the 90s on an impulse because it was on sale really *really* cheap - and I fell in love with it straight off. Don't make music like this any more :(

  • Why they put American version for this? Life is a flower too is in English.....Little confusing!!!!

  • Because back then, Clive Davis and other Americans at the record label believed that anything with "Flower" in the title, including the title of the original album, was too European. Absolutely insane. Thank god those days are over and the American public accepts everything in its original form these days thanks to the internet.

  • i like this version. sounds good. life is a flower is a little boring.

  • this version is better from key and tone to arrangement, however i wish they had incluided the "like is a flower" line somewhere at the end of the song.

  • i`ts great! but this song sounds like "Life is a flower"¿why?

  • It's the "American" version of Life Is A Flower.

  • oohh!, very 10x. the song is great!

  • @opticon4000 i like this one better than life is a flower but they both awesome

  • i love this song it has got that majical feeling!!!

  • love ace of base. grew up listening to them. come back!

  • I like both versions. I like the tone of this version, but find that the other version flows better...if that makes any sense...

  • Haha, its funny, I like this version better. probably becasue this is the version Im used to. I remember the first time I heard LIAF, I thought it was weird. I like it, but this is better to me. I think its prettier and the words are more mature.

  • hehe, for me its the opposite way, when I heard this i tought this was wierd. In Sweden, LIAF was released. I think though that LIAF is the better one :)

  • I don't think LIAF is too Eurodance/European at all. If anything, it was probably one of their least European-style songs ever! LIAF is just too scary a title for the US execs to grasp. Too cryptic? I dunno. Strange decision but it's oddly strangely nice to hear a familiar song with different lyrics!

Anyone heard 'Killer On The Rampage?' it was the original name for Always Have Always Have - VERY different!

  • "Too European" they said. Come on, that's horrible. They strongholded the group into changing their material. That's horrible. Let them be artists and themselves!

The only thing good about this reworked version is that Linn is now easily heard. Clive Davis wanted Linn, period, no exceptions. He was the one who demanded that she sing "Every Time It Rains". She did that in one take. Jenny originally sang it.

"Killer on A Rampage" was only a demo and wasn't changed for America.

  • the group thought that the theme of the original song wouldnt had been accepted in the USA, so they created this version and distribuited to in the USA. This vers is good, tho the origina (Life is a Flower) is better and the rhythm is more Eurodance

  • I love this song and I'm glad you put it here

  • Yes, Life Is A Flower is definitely better!

  • haha life is a flower is better!!! the english version or whatever lol

  • life is a flower??

  • This is the American version of Life Is A Flower.. (From the Cruel Summer album) Arista deemed LIAF too European for Americans.. (Which BTW I totally disagree with)

  • What? NO. Life is a Flower was the American release. I have it on the US-released CD. Whenever you're near me is the European version.

  • LIAF is the European release on the Flowers album (Which was not released in the US). Cruel Summer is the American version which included WYNM...

  • Ack, you're right, I totally got it backwards.

  • LIAF is the best version? ;)

  • @Erydanus Hey you douche, ever heard about Wikipedia?

  • @CarlOscarAlsen Thanks for that helpful comment following up to my comment made 1 year ago. You know, the one where I followed it up right after and said my bad, got it backwards.

  • @Erydanus Damn it, I didn't see that one. The new comment system is pretty confusing. And yes, I could have been more diplomatic, my sincere apologies for that. I just saw one comment too much on YouTube with some American claiming to know better than others without even doing a one-second search first to check the real facts, before making his comment. But it seems I was perhaps unfair in character judgement this time, and it ended up biting me in my ass :)

  • @Erydanus Yea, check to see where the CD was printed. "Whenever You're Near Me" was exclusive release to the US. It's possible you have the Japanese edition which was titled "Cruel Summer" but contained "Life Is A Flower" instead. The Australian version of "Flowers" contained both "Life Is A Flower" and "Whenever You're Near Me", I think you have an import album - if you're in the USA

  • Warum musste denn das Lied extra für die USA anders heißen ? Life ist a flower ist doch ein guter Titel. (Flowers war auch ein schönes Album)
