EVERY pro has self-destructive/defeating tendencies that result in them getting themselves out.it's why they fail 3 times out of 4.EVERY player must look in the mirror & admit when they get bad results, they did something wrong.the trick is to figure out what & change up.albert is no different.lotsa good smart pitchers own him.there's a reason he fails 7 times out of 10.the key:learn to re-evaluate & adjust pitch to pitch.even albert is not satisfied with where he is.why are you?
albert is great!!BUT!!he's no different from anyone else.ALL can improve. when you defy the laws of logic & physics, you do NOT maximize your batspeed.do the experiment.once you do you will realize you can't defy it.throwing a punch is not swinging a bat. once your arms straighten, you are no longer accelerating.people who give a pass to great pros because they done thisnthat & think they can't possibly get any better: albert still fails 7 times out of 10.that's a lotta room to improve.
listen to what he says:power your swing with your weaker upper half rather than starting from the ground up with your strongest body part, your back leg/hip & power the upper body to the ball..in the natural world of logic & physics..not smart. slaught: backup catcher, had 400AB once, stayed fresh all season, hit fairly well. but no power. this approach has its limitations, especially when you think in terms of maximizing your batspeed. just because it works doesn't mean there's not a better way.
This swing is practiced all over the Kansas city area and gets amazing results , my daughter stated using this swing after her sophomore year and hadnt hit a single home run until going to it . She hit 12 home runs the following year and became an excellent gap hitter . She hit 18 doubles her second year in college in a 22 game stretch .
The Hips dont start the swing. If you were to do that you would open them up too quickly and you would lose power. This year our coaches had a chance to sit in on a NSC Clinic in Chicago where Don and other top college and pro coaches had been speaking. We've applied some of Dons ideas to our team and it really has helped. One thing that needs to be remembered is that things are always changing when it comes to the mechanics of a baseball and softball swing. 30 yrs ago they told us elbow up.
@ganguscon wrong!use the strongest part of your body:your back leg/hip to start the engine.a closed stance will control how fast/far you will open up.land your front foot with a closed angle.to say you will open up too far means you don't know how to control your front foot.BAD.elbow up is a good STARTING place.rather than straightening the arm,let the lower body bring the elbow down/in.remember maximizing batspeed gets you to more pitches on time.that's where this style improves you most.
The hips initiate the swing. Then hands stay back until the rotation of the hips pulls them around. Hips before hands. If you watch Ted Williams you can see he actually reaches back, towards the catcher, with his hands as his hips fire forward.
@JLIV461 well said! shows your acknowledgement of the laws of physics & how they govern batspeed.so many coaches start with their own subjective individual style, thinking the laws of logic & physics do not apply to hitting a baseball.BAD. this is why so many players get bad information.think in terms of batspeed,if an action INCREASES batspeed, use it. it is DECREASES batspeed, lose it. success is guaranteed.
@mikryan123 the instant you straighten your arms.. you bat ceases to accelerate.sit on a barstool with your hands in your lap.spin around.extend your arms.. YOU WILL SLOW DOWN!put your hands back on your belt buckle..YOU WILL SPEED UP!! connect the dots..
@kingcoach13 Yor arms should be in a power L position on contact then you extend through the ball and finish your rotation. Well, thats what albert pujols says anyway.
When you throw a power punch, do you throw just to the ppint of contact, or do you extend your arm through his face? YOU connect the dots!
@mikryan123 throwing a punch:linear.hitting:a combo of linear at the start,+ rotational.think in terms actions that INCREASE batspeed, use 'em.actions that DECREASE batspeed lose 'em.straight arms, bad.arms in with an L,help you rotate at top speed.if albert changed up,his batspeed would increase,so he would get to more pitches on time, driving them instead of missing completely, fouloffs, popups.this is how ANY player improves.yes even albert AND ted williams-700K each.you K you did something wrong
@lvdjohnson depends who you want to listen too. i was taught when i was younger to take the knob of the bat to the ball, through high school it was the elbow. dustin pedroia swings with the elbow lead as an example. imo its personal preference, its the same idea
@XsvMike that's the problem:who you listen to.the main objective:LEARN TO THINK FOR YOURSELF.evaluate what someone says in relation to maximizing your batspeed. think in terms of what makes it faster.use it.what makes it slower, lose it.imitating a guy who is going good doesn't mean he can't be better. everyone MUST improve. when you fail to improve, you slide out of the league.always be re-evaluating & adjusting. adapt or die.be your own judge:but you MUST learn LOGIC & PHYSICS to be your best
Gate swing...Another way of saying long swing. Ive never met a scout who was impressed because a hitter's hands kept moving and never stopped. There is no right or wrong there. Only case by case basis. Tell albert pujoles that he needs to move his bat more to be a good hitter. Or EVERYONE up and down the Rangers line up for that matter. Separation is good. Helps hitters with timing tremendously at any level
Pretty good. Could have mentioned that separation between lower half and upper half would rid the gate swing and provide your "separate sources". The more separation, the more power. But not a bad video

at :59 you are strecthing your arms out too the ball? Should be making contact in a good over under power L and extend through the ball.... Right?

BOOOOO! Don't listen to this guy. The back elbow does NOT initiate the hips. Who is giving this a 5 star?
