  • It's illegal to touch harmless whales in hawaii, yet theres no rule for touching sharks, which could cause serious damage to flesh with one bite. Though some people wouldn't even dare come 600 feet near a shark, especially great white sharks.

  • Didnt you read the title of the video, you donkey !!??

  • Looks like the boat allowed itself to get in-between mother and calf. If this isn't a clear violation the law needs redrafting to require the operator to move 300 yards away from any whale even if the whales initially "approach", which is of course a bogus excuse 99% of the time employed by the operators as they know enforcement never happens.

  • Stupid people!

  • why were people laughing at the end!!!!!!!!!

this not funny!!! the little guy will die!! ;(

  • Poor little thing. These whales usually stay with mom for several years learning to survive. They nurse for many months to put on a little fat before mom will start to teach them they rest. Perhaps, mom was a first-timer, they are most likely to abandon. Very sad but it is nature. Now whaling, that needs to stop now.

  • you cant be that close to a whale

  • @judejexus808

You can...only if the whale initiates the contact. Otherwise, vessels have to stay 300 feet away from humpbacks in Hawai'ian waters, and humans cannot harass, touch, or pursue them.

  • Aaaww... poor thing.... it lost it's mother so early! It's flukes are still floppy!

  • baby whales need to be taught how to survive by their mothers. since the calf was in maui, the s/he must have been very young since humpbacks give birth in hawaii.

  • that was so sad and a bit touching. stupid a**holes laughing like its funny at the end of the video and totally oblivious that the calf would die if it doesnt find its mother. baby whales need to be nursed just as same as human babies. best wishes to this whales journey.

  • Aww, I remember hearing that in the Maui News a long time ago. Poor thing, hopefully it won't happen again this whale season.

  • that was heartbreaking

  • amazing beautifu!

  • OMG that would be bloody scary!! :S

  • Omg i would SHIT myself if i was in that position..... Don't know what that thing would do.....

  • and u didnt save it why?

  • what would you propose? putting it in a kennel and carting it off to a sanctuary?

  • you can use something a little better than a kennel...BUT YES

  • natural selection is a bitch

  • why didn't you fly down there and pay to put it in a kennel?

  • Lmao it trys to suckle with the boat Arrrrr poor thing No mommy :(:(

  • Jaws killed mom

  • that poot thing. You can see that he/she lost weight...:(

  • Oh my gosh... the poor thing... :( Without its mother, so sad.... :(

  • i would of adopted it !!!

  • I work with stranded whales and dolphins. That makes me want to cry!!!

  • Wow. Just fantastic. Congratulations on some world-class footage. Too bad about the calf.

  • very good video how did u get a video of it

  • How did you shoot this wonderful underwater video?

  • Wow! I guess this animal is way to big to save. I mean how could they contain it if they did and for how long? This is very sad.

  • What happened to its mama? OK,people,we're gonna need tanker-sized bottles of milk and a realy, really big nipple...who's with me?!! I'm officially bummed.

  • That poor baby... you can even see its fetal folds. I hope this calf's story had a happy ending.
