@cit690 It depends how much she messes up. But a more difficult routine (when the gymnast is able to performs correctly those difficulties) assures a higher score. There are of courses cases when a correct but less difficult routine gets a better grade than an incorrect routine full of difficulties. But if the gimnast performs a routine with high level of difficulties and makes a few little execution mistakes (that don't cancel the value of those difficulties) she still can get a good score.
How ignorant some people are . Kanaeva's difficulties in all 4 routines are much higher than Bessonova. To gain super back flexibility, athletes like Kanaeva has to suffer much more than Bessonova in back injury. To gain higher difficulty they have to train more and risk more. Even for leap, Kanaeva's difficulty is higher for back arch. It's so annoying to see comments like 'Bessonova better' in every video of Kanaeva. It's video irrelevant of Bessonova.

@eastrun yeah I meant body line not flexibility and stuff. Anna's routines are more balletic, but Evgenia's are more contemporary. Anna has great leaps, no one can EVER beat her at that, but Evgenia has awesome pirouettes. The two of them are very closely matched.
So?? Almudena Cid ended her career with 28 years and she was using the back flexibility as well as the legs flexibility. I am not comparing Almu with Bessonova because Bessonova is simply better than the Almudena but it's just to tell you that age is no excuse to not use the flexibility.

Kanaeva is much better than Bessonova because she uses the flexibility of the legs, back, feet and shoulders, she has beauty in what she does, she is a complete gymnast. Bessonova uses the legs flexibility and little uses the back flexibility and it also has weight in score. if all of Anna's blinds learn about RG's score, they can't complain about her score. Anna's routines consisted of many lower difficulties comparing Kanaeva's. Judges are not Russian they are Japanese and this routine was the best score of Evgenia and she had not been unfair because she was beautiful and did almost everything right and she did things that few gymnasts can do as 1:03 to 1:06 that is very difficult and although they like other great gymnasts also have to admit that Evgenia Kanaeva is really amazing, it can be expressive while being concentrated in the routine!
I think you dont see Bessonova's ball routine man, Bessonova's routine had more difficult moves than this one, 1:23 unstable leg at 1:38 too, she do her routine slowest tha Bessonova...

finally! someone who gets it! the judges are so biased with the gymnasts and no one sees it! it's so frustrating, anna bessonova is so much better than all of these gymnasts competing but doesn't get the title because of the judges! This is my opinion but I feel like Russia shouldn't always win these competitions! There are so many gymnasts 10x better than they are but because of the biased judges, they keep Russia in the lead. It's not fair!
Are you stupid? Obviously Kanaeva do her routine more slowly than Bessonova, just because Kanaeva's music is more slowly. Nobody does a fast routine with slowly music, just the bad gymnasts!

Not as clean as she usually is in this routine.....it's such an exquisitely choreographed routine, but her skills weren't nearly as tidy as they usually are.
It is noted that there was perhaps a little preference for Evgenia that deserved the gold this time Anna;))

Not as clean as she usually is in this routine.....it's such an exquisitely choreographed routine, but her skills weren't nearly as tidy as they usually are.
