I have a flexi 50 and THD 2x12. The Flexi can get plenty of lead gain. You just need to put a 12AX7 in the "boost" position, crank the gain and boost, and bring down the bass control.
Oddly enough, I don't like it through the THD cab when it's overdriven. It's to loose in the low end. I much prefer it through my Bogner ported 1x12.
On the first part of the video I am using a Carl martin
Plexi Tone pedal and a TC electronic G sharp effects processor. After the transition in the video I am using a BB preamp by xotic effects with the TC electronic. I have found that the THD Flexi 50 is best run as a clean amp.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me any more questions.
Well, the THD Flexi 50 uses two 12ax7 preamp tubes. I am currently using two el34's which I sometimes switch out with 6l6's. This amp requires an overdrive or distortion pedal to get an overdriven sound unless you want a very clean amp I would advise a good pedal.
very nice. I have a flexi-50 with 2 nos mullards and another 12ax7 ( ruby i think ) and in the master I have a tung sol 6550 and a svetlana el34... I always use with the master on to use the master tubes and back off on the guitar volume for a clean tone. the gain from the master is amazing. i have run straight from the pre's and also hope to find a good pedal configeration to use that way aswell.

Nice smooth lead tone. Is this just gain from the amp or are you using an overdrive pedal?

What's your tube config? Are you happy with using pedals into the preamp?
