  • best part is at 2:06 makes no sense haha

  • I remember as a kid, my family never missed a John Denver Special. When he hit the charts, My older brother save his paper route money and bought a rosewood 6-string Guild almost like JDs, from a priest in our church. After a while, he could play most of JDs songs. He was 13 at the time, hes 53 now and still has that guitar. It has the prettiest tone. The man may have looked a little geeky, but he had the pipes and could play. RIP

  • i remember one time playin this song on my 61 gibson in my buddys cabin in wv. it was such an awsome moment

  • I'm a big john Denver fan and I love every song written by him. John Denver for ever

  • in Australia, it's the 11th of October, but tommorow I will be away all day. So today, I'm listening to all of his music, and all the videos.

Tonight, I'm going to have a campfire, and I'm gonna get my guitar out and play this song. I picked the instrument up because of two people- My Dad and John Denver.

He died when I was only 9, but he has had an impact on my whole life.

    Bless you, John Denver.

  • Quite possibly my favorite song of all time.

  • co to za gościu ?

  • What a beautiful song and such a lovely homely video. RIP John Denver & Jim Henson, they were both extremely talented in what they did,

  • Such a sweet video...Love the song and Love John Denver...RIP...Kendra...

  • @Daisy8007 - it's written from the point of view of an old man who's nearing the end. He's reflecting that all in all, things have been pretty good, although like most us he's got a few regrets. The good times cancel them out though. I learnt to play this especially to play at my dad's funeral. He's still with us but I'm not sure how I'll go when the time comes.

  • This made me cry :} I wish I could have seen him.

  • some people think he killed himself, I think when that Long EZ nosedived down, he was already gone, he just kept going up

  • Watch the sun go down???? As if the muppets never passed the pipe around!

  • @skweakykitty HAHAHAHA!!! That's hilarious kitty!

  • @skweakykitty lol

  • Respond to this video... lol

  • this is just no words i have its wonderful

  • He is in Heaven singing to God and the Angels....may God bless him. Thank you very much for this video. So favourite.....Regards, Sergio.

  • he is really moving, i adore him, i cry listening to this song...

  • my kids and i watched the muppet show every week - this was a great time to be alive and raising kids. thanks, john

  • I so wish you could have grown old instead of dying young. I don't understand why good people have to leave us this way. I can't believe it's been 15 years. You left the world a better place and will live forever through your music. I cherish the memory of coming to see you in an outdoor concert with my toddler and infant in tow. You lovingly acknowledged the squeeling and crying in the audience with grace and humor. We miss you John.

    Love you always...Susie

  • Christmas just isn't the same without John Denver and the Muppets

  • Uh yeah. We all die.

I think it's funny how he took out the marijuana reference in this "While all my friends and my old sit and pass the pipe around" was "ait and watch the sun go down." HA.

  • @FanApart - he cleaned his act up.

  • @FanApart Yes, it should be "while all my friends and my old lady sit and pass the pipe around" Lovely song, lovely man.

  • He's not talking about planning on dying, he's talking about being thankful for all of his experiences, I don't think he'd be talking about committing suicide on a muppets show.

  • Sometimes We just know.

  • What a beautiful combination, and a way to get Johns message across. Thanks for posting.

  • John Denver was such a sensitive, beautiful musician that expressed the words most of us don't know how to say. Loved and Miss him!

  • He was such a lovely person...his mind was so complex. He had tremendous foresight...a special gift I think. Love ya still John D. Gone too soon. :(

  • @MzRainbowConnection John's body will one day live and come back to us again right here in real life forever and ever, someday!!! :) :) :) Well, that's true.

  • Beautiful. John Denver was taken from us too soon...one can only imagine what life would be like now with him still around.

  • TWO OF MY FAVORITE THINGS....JOHN DENVER AND THE MUPPETS. It doesn't get any better than that :)

  • Never seen this, thanks for posting it. Am the only one who gets a lump in their throat when listening to this tracK?

  • @annettemarie1969 This was the first video I watched after John died and it's innocence and charm moved me to tears. I hadn't seen it when it was showed on the Muppets, it's enchanting. I always say that I was so lucky to have lived through the 70s and witnessed the whole John Denver phenomenon, he was the 70s to me.

  • maybe he was just bored with life.....he sounds bored.

  • awesome song hey I thought you knew how to fly this thing... everybody dies but not everyone really lives life is tough get a helmet...and have fun!!!!!

  • What a beautiful version of this song, never heard this before.

  • beautfiul. and so touching.

  • hearing you sing again John Denver....I MISS YOU SO MUCH

  • John Denver and the Muppets, doesn't get any better than this!

  • John Denver music sings to my heart..... I love it. :)

  • it's sad how he really died a plane crash. they only found part of his skull. that's was it of this amazing singer.

  • @jayepaws I know that it It turns me on to think of growing young, you'll forever and ever be young again, as I know that you don't only live once, you only live forever and ever as your body and soul will both stay alive forever and ever for a lot of decades, centuries, milleniums and years, and your body will survive forever and ever after the 31st century as to say that yes, there's forever and ever gonna be another 1996-2010-present and just thank god that we'll keep reliving 1996-2011!!!

  • THE MASTER +++

  • I wish today's hollywood and music scene wasn't so infected by degenerates. Its wonderful and refreshing to stop and take a breath and look at this kind of way of life again.

  • The Muppets

    John Denver

    Camping

SInging by the fire-my personal favorite song.

This is my favorite video of all time.

  • @Treemeadow I have to say that the "Stand by Me" video is quite funny!! But this one is by far the most touching one. :)

  • I miss John

  • what a wonderful comment winterweib...wir schon alles wieder gut werden!

  • @misspeachezmeowz

Ich danke dir sehr für deine lieben Worte. Many thank you :) And many greetings from Berlin to you, dear.

  • I loved this song so much when I was 17 or so. Now I'm in my midforties, have a very diffucult time and feel so comforted by this song and this video. Some of my very dearest friends from my youth want to help me now.

Thank you, J.D., the Muppets, everyone how made this beautiful video and to you, angusyoung111.

In this moment I feel this video was made long time ago just to help me today.

  • Looking back, some of John Denver's songs seem more than a little cheesy, but I still love hearing them. Such a shame he died too soon.

  • @Clothos60 I know that it It turns me on to think of growing young, you'll forever and ever be young again, as I know that you don't only live once, you only live forever and ever as your body and soul will both stay alive forever and ever for a lot of decades, centuries, milleniums and years, and your body will survive forever and ever after the 31st century as to say that yes, there's forever and ever gonna be another 1996-2010-present and just thank god that we'll keep reliving 1996-2011!!!

  • @COWBOYMACLEOD That is so true. This life is only temporal. Regret looks back worry looks ahead but faith looks up. John Denver is not gone that is the thing we need to get out of our minds. he is in the next phase as a larve in the water becomes a beautiful dragon fly. we are all on the same and wonderful journey to Heaven.

  • @mikewarmblood Well, I rest my case about being on the same and wonderful journey to Heaven, because I'll never belong in heaven, and I'm never gonna be in the next phase as a larve in the water becomes a beautiful dragon fly, because for a lot of decades, centuries, milleniums and years, both my body and soul is gonna live forever & ever for a thosand years as I'll keep roping calves forever & ever at the NFR, Mo'betta, Calgary Stampede & many other rodeos and open ropings in the US and Canada

  • @mikewarmblood I'll still be alive and around forever and ever in the 100th century as I'll still be roping calves in the rodeo forever and ever as after the 100th century, there's still forever and ever gonna be another 1996-2010-present and just thank god that we'll keep reliving 1996-2011!!! I wanna say is that you don't only live once, you only live forever and ever, understood, so I'll never be in heaven, you know that, I'll never be in heaven as I'll be glad to stay alive roping forever

  • impressiv..... great song, amazing performance. He died too young... R.I.P.

  • Camping. I don't know why people spend so much money on hotels and concerts, and the like.

Camping is the very best- and most beautiful, of times. I'm camping this coming weekend in fact.

One day I'll have kids of my own. I hope at least one of them is a boy, because I want to name him Denver.

  • Do you think one day Kermit will have a son of his own?

  • @collgoff he does--he's a little frog and his name is Robbie--u see him in the Muppets Christmas movie

  • @collgoff llok at the end-he must have a son cauz Robin the forg talks to him and says uncle Kermit

  • John Denver & the Muppets around the campfire, doesn't get any better than this!

  • I'm surprised they took out "pass the pipe around" but kept "known my lady's pleasures"

  • Beautiful.

Check out MUPPET FRIDAY! on Facebook for more great Muppet clips and a great clip service. Join up and invite all your friends.... much recommended.

  • hahaha dangit....I really wanted to hear Dr. Teeth say "pass the pipe around" haha

  • at 2:09 it's so cute. Kermit and Robin good uncle nephew moment

  • DSK II and Isabella-

It has been a good Life for me, thanks especially to you...

now it is your turn, so Live.

    Love Daddy

  • love that this is captioned, so the hearing-impaired can share this beautiful song & message... thank you!!! :)

  • Thank you G. Buck

  • i'm glad that you enjoyed the video hillary. keep fighting the good fight and thinking the good thoughts... buck

  • My all time favorite John Denver song b/c it so closely reflects my own feelings about life. Even on the bad days it helps me remember all the good things I have to be thankful for.

I like how they changed the "pass the pipe around" lyrics for a kid's show.

  • best song in the entire world. :)

(coming from a 14 year old.)

  • If oldies are all you know about John, then you have missed best. He wrote some of his best after the disc jockeys and radio stations wouldn't play his music. FOR YOU, PERHAPS LOVE are just 2 examples of how beautiful his music and words were. I am priviledged to have seen him in concert and I hope that his music we never got to experience will fill my heart and everyone who knew him........we were blessed to have known him. John

  • I agree! I cry every time I listen to his songs.... didn't know him... but would have loved to, he lives in my heart!

  • Try listening to the music you never heard on the radio because he wrote some of his best. I'm sorry you never got to see him in person.

  • They just don`t make em like this anymore. I miss John. He was such a talent.

  • If I remember right he sang Grandma's Feather Bed before this song. Its been a while...lol

  • Why is Robin asking about chicken feathers?

  • There is a very funny campfire scene before this where JD tells a scary story about a giant maneating chicken! You just gotta see it! It is very funny.

  • They had to change "pass the pipe around" to "watch the world go 'round" for the sake of the kids tv audience.

  • I like John Denver, cool guy.

  • Enlarge the picture,

    Turn the lights down, and

    Listen to this song !

  • One of the best vidoes on youtube. Simply beautiful.

  • What a wonderful postive enlightening song. John Denver was a great songwriter saddenly he didn't get to live to be old.

  • I think the richness of his life was worth a hundred normal lifetimes , but I still wish there had been more too.

  • @rtiffanytaylor Maybe he knew it and that's why he wrote this song like that.... He doesn't look very old in this video! In his 30s or 40s only I would guess!

  • @rtiffanytaylor

He is blessed not to have got old. He had a great effect on millions of people then didn't have to get old.Lucky b*******d

  • @rtiffanytaylor yes i agree if i could of met him i would of loved it

  • A beautiful song, -just listen to the words - and sung as only John could sing it. Nice the way the puppets join in on the chorus.

    Peace, Doris

  • I always said that the ethos of You Tube was about us all sitting around the universal campfire sharing songs together....5 Stars. (thanks Max)

  • How rewarding it is to see this performance once again!! I can now lay my head down upon my pillow to rest...with thoughts of this to base my dreams upon. Many thanks for sharing this treasure!

    Peace,

    Max

  • oh thank u so much Max.. this is soooooooooooooo one of my most fav songs ... well like u didnt know it wouldnt be... of courseeeeee!! thank u!

  • Hi

  • and i bet u wish u could sit round that campfire as much as i wish i was! i so love JD.. he puts me in a state of heaven and peace and calme and true pure blissfulness sereneness .. his songs melt my heart into!

  • It almost sounds like John Denver is PLANNING on dieing???

  • Aren't we all?

  • @broadwaydude2378 -- There comes a time in everyone's life, often in their 30's or 40's, when they begin to face the prospect of their own eventual mortality (which in John Denver's own case was unforeseen and came far too early). My guess is that this song was the result of Denver's own attempts to deal with the knowledge that he would not stay young forever and would one day die. I don't think of it as *planning* or wanting to die, but as facing the reality and inevitability of death.

  • @OreadNYC Somewhat in line with your comment, did you know that John Denver wrote a song named "I Want to Live"? Very nice song also, listen to it. ;)

  • @broadwaydude2378 :

angusyoung111 is right, country music is the sound of every one's life and experience...a sort of philosophy!

  • @broadwaydude2378

    Might have been...

  • @broadwaydude2378 it was know he suffered depression....

  • Aww. This is so cool. Nothing like John Denver and the Muppets. :)

  • Damn I wish John Denver hadn't died. He was always one of my favorites, and he was coming back slowly.

  • O MY GOD !!!!! :) Uncle Kermit, little boy Robin very cute!

  • Beautiful video.

  • rolph looks good in a 'cowboy' hat.

  • I love the muppets and I love this song! But why change the lyrics? I'm sure everyone in that room with their hand up a muppet butt would love to "pass the pipe around."

  • Because this was part of a family show. I remember this too. It was the first time I fell in love with Denver before I saw his christmas special

  • How could this be anything but a 5***** rating? Thank you for so many great and heart rendering videos.

  • Love Kermie and Robin in his sleeping bag ;)

  • One of my favorite John Denver songs. He sang it here so beautifully. His music touches my soul. Wish we still had him around with us.

  • His music had a great deal of caring in the words. and the melodies just kind of stick with those of tender heart. If ever I was feeling low I could turn on his songs and in a few minutes I would feel better. Uplifting.

I sure do miss him. At least we have recordings.

When I learned he had died, I had the blues, deep low down blues for several days. Didn't go to work, used up my last three vacation days.

Hope to see him in the new world where his wonderful voice can sing praises to God.

  • I can't believe i cried, the comment about the warmth of the puppets touched me. My mom rented a hotel this night so we could see him in color, and we recorded it on cassette. I listened to this muppets tape growing up, and John tought me how to sing. I also agree with the comment he was not the same after annie and him split. I found myself in lake tahoe upon his death news, and sat around the bar in a casino singing his songs with all these women who heard that day. I sing pro now thanks to him.

  • can you post more of this JD movie?

  • One of my favourite John Denver songs, he is my favourite singer also

  • i love him.=]

i was corrupted from the very beginning of my childhood.=]

  • hehe

  • john denver will always live in my heart and be my favorite singer next to elvis johns life was never the same after annie left l think it was annie his guitar and his words and music he loved so very much megs

  • Mom had the Poems Prayers and Promises album on 8-track (not kidding) in the 70s when I was a kid. It was a soundtrack to me then, but as an adult at the time of my life where I realize I have less time left than that which I have already lived, it helps me feel peace with my mortality.

  • Such a touching, bittersweet song, especially when we remember how John Denver died. Not sure what his age was in this video; was he already contemplating his death? Strange how the Muppets--those little bits of fur and foam-- can add the sense of love, and hope to this scene.

  • This is from about 1982 or '83. John was about 39 or 40 here.

  • Wonderful....

  • BEAUTIFUL

    :-)

    Kisses

    And

    Hugs

    MariaLisboa

  • for my mom lola it been 12 years since you passed, but it seems like yesterday.love you mommy.iam glad your not hurting anymore

  • I'd really like to thank you for posting this... My family is going through a rather rough time right now, with the inevitable loss of a dear loved one...

It was a beautiful song, sung only the way John Denver could sing it...

The Muppets, in their own inimitable way, lend a more light- hearted theme to this song...

    Thank You, and God Bless!

    Bobby

  • beautiful song and quite touching,. Thanks for posting.

    :)

  • This is on John Denver and Muppets Rocky Mountain Holiday. Available on DVD.

  • does somebody know from wich show this song is? i wanna know if i can get this video on dvd!

  • I agree, beautiful song. Keep that fake fire away from those puppets though. lol

  • The crickets in the background are perfect accompaniment! Once you miss someone, you always miss them.

  • probably the greatest song ever written!

  • This is sooo sweet!!!!!!

  • especially if you're in love with someone! then you understand something about this song

  • for me, john denver made the muppets seem even more real. good messages from john denver, jim henson and his muppets. thanks, angus, for sharing.

  • I'm finally really setting down and relaxing so it was time to watch the video's you sent. This one first John Denver was always one of my favorite's!!! Thanks!! Cherri

  • i'm glad your getting to settle down and relax, cherri. before i was kicked-out of med school i would advise patients to breathe into a brown paper bag when stressed. that could be why i was kicked-out of med school!!! (just kidding)

  • Muppets and John Denver always seemed to belong together. They both speak at multiple levels to all ages.

  • yes!

  • No one spoke more from the soul than John Denver & Jim Henson. I really miss them both.

  • Miss you John, no one compares these days. Keep watch on us down here.

  • Who knew that John Denver & the Muppets sang this together? Not me! Thanks for putting this up! :)

  • John and the Muppets had a very special friendship. He was probably the only guest star who really became one of the muppet family.

  • Let's not forget Paul Williams, he had a muppet likeness and kept it at his house, and co wrote the songs for the muppet movie

  • Yes! Of ocurse- the man behind Rainbow Connection himself ^^

  • This is the best ever version of "Poems" and for a family audience, too!!! Thanks for posting.

  • I love John Denver and his music. He really is missed

  • Great song song by my all time favorite, I'm 45 now and miss him so much.

OK..."watch the sun go down"?..where's the pipe? :-)

    We miss you John...peace

  • a wonderful song, indeed! i suppose the original lyrics wouldn't quite work for a children's show! the focus on the family folks would scream that he was trying to turn all their kids into stoners. i was surprised he was even able to keep the "i've known my lady's pleasures" line in!

  • john denver...what can i say...when i was 5 i heard "thank god im a country boy" and loved it...then as i got older i listened to and understood more songs by him...this one, along with "rocky mtn high" are my 2 fave 2 sing at karaoke...i can say he is the artist that inspired me to become the songwriter i am today, and have been since i was 9...he will be missed

  • I love The feelings John Denver brought to my life and I look forward to sharing it with my kids

  • When I think of how dark this world seems at times, I think of how John Denver provided so much light. It is indeed a much darker world with him gone.

  • I love that he sings "and watch the sun go down" instead of "and pass the pipe around" for this Muppet version. John Denver's the coolest!

  • I took am looking for a copy of Rocky Mountain Holiday. This would be wonderful many kids to see.

  • It's on commericial DVD. U can buy it on Amazon.

  • This was from the special called "Rocky Mountain Holiday". I'm still looking for the rest of it. Let me know if you find anything else.

  • anything by john denver is wonderfull

  • this i love!!! the original!!!!
