While there is definitely truth to what you say and parts of Steve's bassline's are easy (though really fast) there are interludes and even whole sections in songs that are complicated. Now I'm not saying Geddy Lee from Rush complicated, but fairly involved nonetheless. Also Steve's galloping bass just fits the songs. A bassline doesn't have to be complex to be good. And last it's his band, always has been. Steve created Iron Maiden and he's earned the right to latch onto guitarists.
