ITS A SAPPHIRE 830 WHICH IS THE MODEL, WHAT BRAND NAME? IM LOOKING FOR A GOOD SEWING AND QUILTING MACHINE, YOUR MACHINE WORKS PERFECT. I REALLY LIKE IT.
@franceslehman Yes, it's a Sapphire 830. This machine is marketed as a quilting machine, so your manual should have instructions for using it for quilting, or you might want to talk to your sewing machine dealer where you bought it. Mine came with the feet needed for both straight line quilting (the walking foot) and free motion quilting (the spring action free motion foot).
Not a very informative video. Shows stitching obviously done before the video but the video doesn't show anything other than what is also obviously a quilt being pushed through machine. It's silly because you want to see the stitches being formed. Just my opinion!
@meorchard Set your stitch length and width to zero, lower your feed dogs, keep speed at max or midway if you have stich speed regulator and use a darning foot ( the one with a hoop and a spring. The legnth of the sititch will depend on how fast you are stitching and moving the quilt. Most people find it easier to keep a relatively fast stich. If I stitch too slowley I get great big toe snagging stitches and sharp angles.
i just saw the posting with regard to stitch length (8 months later)... thank you!

Nice. My biggest problem when (attempting) free motion quilting is that I get birdsnests underneath. Why is that happening?

Agree with above? Also, what parameters are you working within? I know it's "free motion" but do you work to some sort of pattern?

but how did you start the sewing? and how did you end it? what threads did you use and what length was the stitch?
