  • Smore Crappie. You know how to catch'em. Great job, Don.

  • @CASSCOMOSURVEYOR Thanks. I may have mentioned before that crappie fishing isn't my 'thing' but I've gathered a lot of info on it and will be better able to catch them (deliberately) in the future. Of course I've caught lots of crappie in the past, just never focused on them much. They can swim but they can't hide.... ha!

  • LOVE TECHNOLOGY. That's cool that you can use the machine to find the fishies. "Catch me. Catch me. Catch me!" :) hugs♡dani

  • @DLSings Thanks, Miss Lowe. Although it is a "low tech" unit, that little fish finder I'm using is quite helpful and really works. Today, for example, I passed through the same "normal" fish spots and saw no fish. I finally found them in a different area sort of around the corner from where they had been schooling. Feel free to use 'Catch Me, Catch Me' as a song title...... :) Don and Brenda

  • @winkiedoodles don is your fish finder a portable unit? What model is it?

  • @rollabulldog Patrick, it is a Hummingbird Fishin' Buddy. The model is 110 and, yes, it is completely portable. Runs on 8 AA Batteries. There's a 120 model that has "side finder" capability that I never used.

  • "Back and Out...Thats how its done!" What else do you need to know? Another great video with priceless fishing tips!

  • @ajlures Thanks, John! I can't wait to put down those flippy poles and start slinging Mice! But, for now, it is fun to try out my dinky baits arsenal and see what rises to the challenge. Maybe I'll find some like those Canadian ice fishermen? Hard to imagine! Don

  • Thanks for the tips again!

  • @theissfeildandstream Okey Dokey!

  • Hey Don how deep you set the float from fly?

  • @aswill979 Great question. I usually have three rods/reels, each set at a slightly different depth (and with different lures I'm testing). The shallow one is right at 6 feet, medium is 7 and the deepest (so far) is about 8. There's deeper fish, but the active ones seem to be in around 8-10 feet of water. I'm throwing the shallow one on the shortest rod; the other two depths are no problem since I'm using both a 9 foot and a 10.5 foot Float N Fly rod.

  • You're certifiable man. Love it.

  • @flukemstr Thanks Gene. I'm going to be a crappie pro before too long. OK, news just for you......I'm now rigged with an Alabama Rig and will be using it Sunday at Table Rock. My fishin' buddy (with the Ranger) is going Saturday with a local pro to learn how to do it and then will teach me. If it doesn't work I plan to use mine as a wind chime on the back porch.

  • love your vids so stinkin funny

  • @justintr34 Thanks! The stinky part comes from wet waders...... :) Appreciate your watching and commenting.

  • @Winkiedoodles lol so thats what it is

  • Woohoo Don! More fun, more fish, and more crappie catchin' tips from the best fishing show host on YouTube! Can't wait for part 2... lookin' forward to s'more ;-)

  • @intenseangler You are too kind, John. Hey, Scouts NOA did a great video review of your Foster's cookware. You'll be on QVC in no time! Oh, as for this video, Part 2 is actually better in my opinion. I'll put it up in a few days.

  • 100 videos!

  • @vweeks181 Thanks, but no cause for celebration. I deleted about 50 a few weeks ago......Still have some review and clean up to do on vids that are too vintage.

  • another great video Don - nice work on those fish and also on the Mrs!

  • Thanks, Skip. Finding feeding crappie has lit my fire. I have assembled my arsenal of crappie lures and am committed to see which ones work. I never used a lot of the "collection" before connecting the dots with these Float-N-Fly outfits and discovering how well they allow you to cast those tiny lures. Oh, at Bass Pro today I saw a 14 foot Float-N-Fly rod. Didn't get it; wife knows where my guns are........... :)

  • @Winkiedoodles hilarious - but does she know how to shoot - that is the question! I will look back thru some of my older videos and try to repost some with crappie - i deleted my first couple hundred videos from the channel - had some dumb idea to start fresh each year - let me see what I can find - you'll like it!

  • @bloodknot101 How to shoot? What a silly question. I've taught her how to pull the trigger, cut the venison into small slices, dip in a gourmet batter, fry, pour wine, pack venison jerky, clean the kitchen, iron my fishing shirts, field dress the deer and serve desert all before the bullet ever even reaches the deer. Yes, she's pretty good.

  • @Winkiedoodles ha ha - i should have known :)

  • Another great vid Don. I'm so happy because the lakes up here might not freeze this year and that means fishing strait through!

  • @fishingmaster13 Wow, that would be an unusual year, right? Similar situation down in our parts as most of the ponds and small waters an hour or so N of us would be frozen this time of year. I'm not counting on winter going away anytime soon though and Feb to March can be wicked.

  • Excellent Don!! I like the music on your intro true stereo!! Sounds good in my cheap speakers!! I like it! Nice crappie too!!

  • @BillGoudy Cheap speakers....ha, very funny. I've been "composing" quite a few 'songs' recently. Some are pretty good for what I need them for. Its kinda like making the biscuits at the same time as the gravy. Now all I need is a squirrel or a possum or two....... :)

  • @Winkiedoodles Well, I kow where you can get a possum or 2!!! What are you using to make that music?? What ever it is you are doing a good job of it!!!

  • @BillGoudy Bill, I'm using a music authoring program called Sony Acid Pro 7.0. The "authoring" process is similar to video editing. You select whatever you want from countless "libraries" and put them (drums, guitar, piano, etc) on timeline tracks. It takes an hour or two to search the libraries and lay in the tracks; that is the creative part. Then you just hit "render" and have a song (.WAV file) in about 15 seconds. Gives me something to do on my days off from retirement.

  • @Winkiedoodles Thanks Don! That looks like an excellent program!!

  • your catch some healthy fish!

  • @fishingforfood1 Thank you and, yes, the crappie do seem in excellent health and well fed. In the interest of time, I only show a small number of acutal fish caught since it isn't too difficult to figure out one crappie looks just like the next.

  • Looks like fun! I'm going to try ice fishing here in a while.

  • @dennislogston Brrrrrrr. Be safe out there and good luck.

  • first!

  • @GroveCityBasser No, not first at all. I've been fishing for many years.
