this dont take the cake for longest song on a 45 does it? i used to have November Rain by GNR on a 45 and it was the entire song. isn't Hey Jude over 8 minutes as well
As I say and think(Vinyl is Final). Cd's do not have much base. I buy Cd's because I DJ and I want to preserve my Vinly as much as I can. I have over 40thousand 45's dating back to about 1953. Stopped buying 45's in the 90's when music became repetitive and sickening. Still by oldies though. I do buy some 45's of today, especially good C&W and real rock. No Rap Crap and heavy metal . Still buy Segar, Springsteen and mellancamp and other real good Rock artists.
Although this should be a microgroove 45, sounds really great. Shurely from the digitally remastered sources. from the 90's. Thank you so much for this posting. Excellent!!!
I have that as a single but it's on a special release to radio stations. I think they could still release that on vinyl as a .45 and sell a million copies even in the age of CD's and IPOD's.
@barmer479 Maybe u r consuming LCD, VINYL SOUNDS MORE REALISTIC, WARMER THAN CD, IS MUCH BETTER, I HAVE THIS ALBUM IN BOTH CD AND VINYL. IT SURELY SOUNDS BETTER IN VINYL
Wow, I thought this was only put out in the album and not released as a single. Was this a 45 from the early 80's? Such a great song. Are you recording this through a camera and stereo? I can hear all the channels in my head phones. Sounds great
This just blows my mind................never thought a song so long could fit onto one side of a 45! Wonder why they didn't do the same thing with Don McLean's American Pie (was about as long and took up both sides of the original 45).
Love your Technics turntable !!! Is it a direct drive or belt drive ???? I have a Technics direct drive turntable that I used to listen to all my vinyl records but unfortunately, CD's have taken over as the media for listening to music....Nothing can beat the rich and personal feel of playing vinyl on a nice turntabe such as yours...Great sound from your turntable !!!!
They really should've released this on a 12 inch... You can't have an 8 minute song on a 45 without reducing the bass and overall quality of the audio. Shame, it's such a classic. Still sounds pretty good though.
@jameshodgetts1997 Interesting..... I have a 12" Single sided version, supposedly of US origin, Atlantic labelled, has left channel surface noise.....anyone know if this is the real deal??
@m0therfan and beatlesfan464 - this was only released on 7" vinyl in the UK as a jukebox/promo with the "B" side as Whole Lotta Love. The band never wanted this out as a single probably cos they thought that a single equated them as a "pop" stereotype.
Hopefully 2012 brings the 40th anni, with maybe a 12" remaster...we can only dream
How about we flip you..?:) Never mkind..what COULD work, had radio allowed iot baclk then in the 1970s, all 8 minutes, BUT on a 10 inch 45, not a 7---in 1949 Ray Bolger got all 4 and a half minutes on a 12 inch 78 of what would eclipse "If I Only had a Brain" as his theme, "Once In Love With Amy".
How can a long song be put onto a 45 RPM? I thought you could only get long songs on LPs. I didn't know that you could get a 7" Maxi version of "Stairway to Heaven".
@saemikneu This is proof that vinyl record mastering is a true artform. To be able to squeeze an 8 minute long song on to one side of a 45 is a difficult task. It means knowing how wide to make the grooves so it sounds good and tracks properly and doesn't skip during loud passages in the song. Only experienced mastering engineers know how to do this, and there aren't many around now that know how anymore.
@saemikneu Because the first half of the song is so quiet, with no drums and little base, they could pitch the grooves closer together, then increase the pitch when the drums come in. Also a cut in the bottom end will help reduce the track width, and a reduction in volume will also help. All these things together are why it's possible, especially with this song being quiet at first. If we still used 45s, most of the hip hop could not exist on them. (that would be a good thing!)
@scartissue94 music wasn't ruined by Apple, music was ruined by the record industry in the mid 90's who ignored the digital revolution taking place. instead of releasing garbage sounding over-compressed cd's they should have seen the internet as a means for selling quality product. they missed that boat completely and now P2P will never be stopped. I'm happy listening to lossless needle-drops on my iPod/iPhone
I've got the original promo radio station copy to this. Unfortunately, it has lots of unpleasant clicks early in the song on the stereo side. The mono sounds much better! I had to shell out a good amount of money for the copy on Ebay several years back.
My favorite song called "Stairway to Heaven" was indeed a hit single. It was sung by Neil Sedaka some time in the early 1960s. And no, it is not the same song as this one, and I know it's not the same song as this one.
Stairway was released as a 45 in some parts of Asia, I believe, and it was a Split-Song Single. The song fades out at the four minute mark on the A-Side, and fades in on the B-side.
Yo Spencer is there anyway you can get some Elton John up on this channel? I Know He his music was constantly played on WABC 77(I know because i have listened to alot of WABC airchecks from the 60's and 70's). I have Most of Eltons Hits From the 70's, and the only one i don't have is "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". Is There a possibility for you to spin it for me?
"Hey Jude" came close at 7:20, but 8 minutes seems to be the breaking point. "American Pie" (8:33) was split up into two sides, "Part 1" and "Part 2".
Oldies stations usually avoid this song due to its "non-hit" status and long playing time, but I have an aircheck of WCBS-FM playing it back in 1991. I doubt it is in their current playlist today, though.
Yeah, it's me again... Spencer, you have posted some really neat stuff but this takes the damn cake! I can't believe how good this sounds. Where did you get this? I want one really bad! :) JC
Wow! What a find... That 45 is super cool. 8:00 minutes pushes the format right to the edge of the time limit but it sounds really good. When was this issued? Freakin' awesome! Thanks for sharing this... :) JC

In addiytion tot he 45 rpm single, a certain famous time limit, and Led Zep would NOT agree to editing (besides, they loved the bigger sales from LPs. Can you blame them?:))

@WABCRADIO77 Well, if they offer the opportunity to download an MP3, they BETTER allow it. I usually take that as a sign that the song is being allowed, otherwise I still have Viddler.
