  • All three dead = 2 downward firing ejection seats (early models I believe) imagine having to punch out coming off the flight deck with twin flame outs hence the nickname "all three dead"

  • I'm the 455th person to dislike this...

  • It ejected downward. If you did not have altitude, the three of you would be dead.

  • My dad flew these in Vietnam off of the Bennington.

  • A

    3

    D.

    Figure it out.

  • you watched it "Razorkidz434"

  • Should have named this Navy version the A4D. Had a 4th seat behind the belly exit ramp. I know because I rode in it in 1965 out of NAS JAX for VAP-62.

  • The only three dead is

    1) Your knowledge

    2) Your sense of humor

    3) everyone who watches this shit

  • @Razorkidz434 all three dead is the nickname of the plane dumbass

  • @drummerboy5192 O My bad

  • Fumbs Down, Down, Down on CDRSslamander!

  • @ChicaWolverina this is a perfectly accurate video title if you understood the meaning lol

  • @pringlesbbq, a better title would have been 'A-3D slow fly past' then all the people who weren't born knowing what a3d means would not have clicked.

    Title misleading, video reported.

  • @BigDuke6ixx then maybe people should read more wikipedia and they would be fine!!

  • @pringlesbbq, that statement is just ridiculous.

  • @BigDuke6ixx I'm aware :)

  • hey that was van nuys! my airport!

  • the loudest, most screeching of all the planes to fly off of a deck. it would hurt even with ear protection on.

  • oh so all three dead stands for A-3D, hey??.. i thought the three dead people were

    1: the poster

    2: the poster's father

    3: the poster's mother!!...

glad to hear that it's non of them but it's just the name of the plane....!!

  • @prajer17 Five Stars! *****

  • Comment removed

  • You people are stupid all three dead stands for A-3D which is the airplane flying in the video

  • @ComradCupcake Not everybody knows that......

  • @ComradCupcake I'm a certified flight instructor and I've never, ever heard that anywhere. I've been flying for years.

  • @colinbcolby While I've never heard this it makes perfect sense. I'm willing to bet you don't know what aircraft are being referred to with "Miss Piggy", "Lead Sled", "Rhapsody in Glue" and "World's Largest Dog Whistle".

  • @archer49d I'm willing to bet you don't know what young whipper-snappers are referring to with "WAAS" "stochastic regression analysis" "nyan-cat" "reddit" "Ron Paul" "wikipedia" It's the new generation. Move over; we need to clean up the embarrassing mess you made of the world.

  • @colinbcolby You're kind of an idiot, aren't you. It's okay, you don't need to answer, you've shown everybody already.

  • @archer49d lol fag

  • @ComradCupcake like, we should know that....

  • The A3s were a handful on the deck of an Essex class carrier.

Always the last plane to land after a strike because of the high risk of "Problems".

Bitch to move, bitch to park.

Just about all the catapults could handle.

I had a love/hate relationship with the 'Whale'.

Beautiful airplane but a nuisance on so many levels.

  • a friend of mine told his Co that if he was given orders to a A-3 squadron he would turn in his wings. He did.

  • @subfourrun

In 68 when I got my wings they gave me helos. I should have turned in my wings. A-3's were safer.

  • @radreader01 ...what was the old joke "a million nuts and bolts moving in roughly the same direction" ;)

  • @subfourrun

Sometimes the nuts and bolts decided to move in the many different directions, which we called "a non critical emergency" meaning you were about to die no matter what you did. I wanted A4's really bad, but so many of those guys died in Viet Nam, in retrospect, I probably would not be here today.

  • @radreader01 that's a sobering thought - fate has a way of orking things out...still wondering why they put all those SEALS on one Chinook in Afgahanistan recently you guys had a lot of guts flying those things.

  • @subfourrun WTF? They fly en masse all the time. Chinooks are used all the time. It is stupid to try to drop one in on a hot LZ, as they are slow as molasses getting up/down...that's a big damned target. Once moving they're fine.

  • @subfourrun

It's not so much guts as it is being young and stupid. In your twenties you think you're invincible. I wasn't involved in missions like those SEALS and Chinook pilots took part in. They're the guys with real guts. Helos as you know, are prime targets. Low and slow.

  • That must be a Raytheon owned test bed. I didn't think there were any military A3D left. I remember doing integration on one with a mis matched paint job on a wing.

  • Hey, the A-5 Vigilante, also called the Viggie; was often plagued with problems. It also was called the Mach II Malfunction.

  • Why not call the video A3D - nickname ALL THREE DEAD. When they change the video name to that theyll stop getting abuse, its that simple. they know it, you know it... theyre doing it on purpose to get hits and people are angry to waste their time.

  • @truthseekers666 ah waste of time, they didnt se 3 people die, gosh what a waste of time that is...

people searching for the a3d will get to this video, people that wanted to se 3 dead people, are sick persones.

  • Cool plane

  • you suck ass sir

  • Just had one fly on top the base that I'm stationed on.....The thing that sucks is that it flew in and it's going to be put on gate duty. Total waste!

  • I see... I was waiting for someone to die.. heh...

  • DAMN IT!!

  • I REMEMBER SITTING IN ONE WHILE STATIONED IN ROTA (1972) ON A SPLIT DEPLOYMENT. IT HAD AN 8 TRACK TAPE PLAYER INSIDE. I ALSO REMEMBER THAT AFTER VP-5 LEFT THAT DEPLOYMENT. "THAT" A3D CRASHED AND KILLED EVERYONE ON-BOARD! I NEVER GOT CLOSE TO ONE AGAIN...BAD LUCK PLUS I FLEW ON P-3'S

  • @notjustadog C-130 never deployed or operated from a carrier. It was only tested, huge difference.

  • great vid

  • Lame.

  • Thats one ugly ass plane

  • how the hell did they then bail out...manually wow sweet.

  • @nolifemerc Well in a high-altitude emergency, the crew members could open up an escape hatch and jump out. The A3D/A-3's USAF twin, the B-66 Destroyer, was equipped with ejection seats. The reason why there was no ejection seats on the A3D/A-3 was because it was designed to be used on an aircraft carrier, and it weighed over 80,000 pounds, so why add more weight to it. The B-66 was designed for land-based use, so it had ejection seats installed into it.

  • @thisissparta789789 thanks for the answer but i dont understand how any1 ever will get out of that .

  • @nolifemerc They didn't.

  • Comment removed

  • @nolifemerc Yup created a real sense of brotherhood with the pilots.

Good adrenalin rush too I would imagine.

  • Comment removed

  • @nolifemerc Totally =)

  • It stands for all three dicks you gay bastard

  • Also known as an RB66 in airforce clothing and was nuclear capable.A dramatic photo from my library shows this a/c inverted with its bombbay doors open at high altitude.A technique developed to eject the a- bomd and zoom away from the blast zone.

  • @MARMARR1 Hoping you were one of them shitbag

  • A3D = Sex

  • Sweet, never even occured to me people would think this was a crash video HA HA jokes on you!!!! My dad was in VQ-1 during Vietnam and I'm lucky enough to have served with VAQ-139...very inside as said below A=All 3=crew D=dead, First one out cleans off the antennas. Whales kick ass

  • When I saw the title, I was expecting to see a plane crash with all three crew dead... I have sad thoughts

  • Here's some history on the designation: Prior to 1962 it was called the A3D under the US Navy/US Marine Corps designation system. But when the designation systems were unified for all US military branches in 1962 the A3D was now known as the A-3. Same goes for the AD Skyraider being renamed the A-1, the A2F being renamed the A-6, and the a4D being renamed the A-4.

  • Awesome aircraft!

  • Is this at KVNY?

  • shots shots shots shots shots shots

  • This is a reply to "riverlifeva", who apparently replied to my "Arrrgh" comment. I don't know why, but for several days now, I'll get a reply and read it in my Yahoo Mail and YouTube Inbox...but when I open the page, it doesn't show up here, nor do my new comments. Refreshing the page doesn't help. I don't know if something is wrong with YouTube or what. I just made a comment here last night, but it's not here. Maybe they're screening all comments now?

  • Arrrgh...YouTube doesn't show my new comments anymore!!!! I think they just don't like me XD (I wonder why?)

  • @justforever96 just refresh the page after you post them.

  • @riverlifeva - No, it's something different. I don't' know if this is happening to anyone else, or it's just me, but refreshing the page doesn't do any good...the comments just aren't there. And what's happening even more often is that the OTHER peoples replies aren't showing up. For example, I opened my Yahoo Mail and found your reply, but when I clicked the link, it wasn't on the page. I wrote a different reply, but I couldn't click "reply" to you because your comment wasn't here! WTF YouTube.

  • @justforever96 ... Ya it's the new way to get you to log in rather than just checking your e-mails. Kinda say realy.

  • @mrgrouchyguy- "New way" since when? I don't quite see what you mean...I can only see messages in my Yahoo Mail...do you mean that I have to sign off from YouTube and back on again to see my comments oh the page? That's fucking weird in either case...is this something they just started doing like within the last week or so?

  • what the total fuck are you on about you twat face cunt,

  • "All Three Dead"

what the heck is that supposed to mean? all there is is a plane flying by

    boo

  • its the aircraft's nickname, derived from its designation, A3D, and also that the very early examples had no ejection seats

  • thankyou for that clarification... it would be nice if the CDRSalamander would have included that in his description... I will message him

    ;)

  • @Steph6n You fucking mooron. All Three Dead is a nick name for the plane because it had no ejection seats for it's three man crew and the designation for the jet was A3D. You obviously have no fucking clue, do you?

  • @stuntmanmike37- Why don't you chill the fuck out, you god-damn troll. How the fuck do you expect everyone to know what "All 3 Dead" is supposed to mean...not everyone is a naval aviation expert, such as you so obviously (*snigger*) are. *cough*. I'm sure I could make you look like a clueless ignorant fool, but you're doing a fine job already. Asshole.

  • @stuntmanmike37

You are absolutely right, stuntmanmike37, I am a fucking mooron, bad spelling and all. I have absolutely NO FUCKING CLUE.

    You are absolutely right.

By the way, it looks like lots of people feel the same way about you, according to your channel comments...

Have a great life, what's LEFT of it.

    Toodles !!

    :-P

  • They were huge on the Kitty Hawk's flight deck, '87 Wescap, and they really porpoised around during landings!

  • OMG a whale in the air outstanding. i remember hooking the whale for the last time on board the USS Coral Sea it was a tough aircraft to hook but all the top side crews loved it. im happy that it is still flying

  • Great video. I heard that Raytheon or L3 still operates one in CA, any truth to this? I have seen pictures as of 2006 on jetphotos and airliners.

  • I fort sum1 was guna die! : P

  • Mee 2

  • In English?!!

  • A great plane, got a lot of fuel form the tanker model. Night plug-ins lots of fun. Whale crews were the hardest drinking of them all, (Ens. Parker are you out there?) Flew A-4's 1965-71

  • Gee, and I thought Whale watching season was over.

  • *is drooling...*

  • Oh Yes!...I remember that behemoth very well....too big for the Essex class CVAs...always a joy to watch on final...always a mess to get spotted on deck..and a bitch to fuel. (CVA-31 U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard, 1966-1968)

  • Giggle I heard that said about willie before.

  • heh@ppl not understanding army jargon, but the title is somewhat misleading also. good vid anyways imo

  • A3D Skywarrior

A3D because it was the 3rd attack model from Douglas, but it was jokingly called "All Three Dead" because, in the event of disaster, the crew of three did not have ejection seats to escape.

  • The irony.....

  • Landlubbers chill out, just some of the old school NAVAL AVIATION venacular.

  • Memories...USS Midway CV-41, 83-86...Attention on the flight deck, time for all unnecessary personnel to leave the deck, Whale in-bound. Then I ended up in VQ-1 from 89-94...loved every minute of it and would go back to Guam in a blink of an eye. Great vid!

  • Catch up on your reading first before posting negative comments.

  • I was in Naval Aviation when the F4, F14, A3D, A4, A7, and even the RF8 were in active service.

The A3D had the main exit hatch on the bottom of the aircraft. In the event of the aircraft making an emergency landing on water ('ditching') the crew were in a bad spot. I'm sure there were alternate exits but I don't recall their location. At any rate that was the reason for the "A3D='all three dead'" nickname.

  • They would've gone out the top hatch if they were still alive..

  • Don't ruin a good sea story. :)

  • all 3 dead= A-3D skywarrior. Stop harassing the poster, this is a good video. Haven't you guys heard other nicknames and word plays for other aircraft? Jeez.

One more time for the hard of cognition:

    A=all

    3=three

    D=dead

    A-3D skywarrior.

  • A3D = "All 3 Dead"

    SB2C = "Son-of-a-Bitch 2nd Class"

    SBD = "Slow But Deadly"

    LOL.

    Know any others?

  • C-5 (FRED) = F@%$ing Rediculous Economic Disaster

  • What DOES "FRED" stand for? (Really, I mean =P ). I know the B-52 is "BUFF", for "Big, Ugly, Fat Fucker", but I think that's what "BUFF" stands for, and that's IT! Hmm...I know the British had the MRCA. It once stood for "Multi-Role Combat Aircraft", but the press ended up turning it to "Mother Riley's Cardboard Airplane" and "Must Refurbish Canberra's Again"! I think the MRCA was what they called the Tornado during it's development (but it MAY have been the Harrier.)

  • @justforever96 "FRED" stands either for "F*cking Ridiculous Economic Disaster" or "F*cking Ridiculous Environmental Disaster" and refers to the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. "MRCA" was indeed the name of the Tornado during its development.

  • @b1cc2 xD ahahaha el nombre del video lleva a la confucion al instante, pero gracias por la aclaración

  • @b1cc2 no. 99.99% of the population does not know that's what he was referring to, and both he and you know that. Grow up.

  • @b1cc2 no a have not heard

  • Who died????

  • yea I dont get it? whats dead the airplanes?

  • Saw them launch on USS Ranger 1979 cruise

  • All 3 dead refers to what we used to call the A-3D: All 3 Dead. It had no ejection seats...

  • All 3 what dead??

  • Flew Willies and P-3s in VQ-1 74-76 and ERA-3Bs in VAQ-33 79-82. Mighty lonley in the belly of the whale.

  • thats cool..is there a B-66 destroyer association?

  • @geargemartin- "Is there a B-66 Destroyer association?" Not sure what you mean...if you're asking if this plane is related to the B-66, then yes, the B-66 is (was) the USAF version of the A3D. If you're asking if there's an Association for B-66 crewmembers or fans, I don't know, but most likely. But you're in the wrong place...this is NAVY territory. Only REAL aviators need apply...none of that wishy-washy "flared landing" BS! We don't land, we crash in a controlled manner, aka carrier landing!

  • thanks for stating the obvious. as to real aviators, unless you have flown a huey in combat. stuff it up your ass pussy!

  • To all those who are tempted to take this comment seriously, DON'T! It's a JOKE. I am NOT a veteran Naval Aviator, and I was just making a joke on how carrier pilots are (rightly) proud of the dangerous job they have. I never meant to seriously suggest that other aviators aren't performing a dangerous task, particularly those who have been in combat. But I DO think that in terms of peacetime ops, flying off of a carrier is one of the most difficult and dangerous jobs you can hold.

  • cool

  • Cool! Not so SLOW.................

  • Man O Man It's been a long time whalemates. I have the guam VQ-1 Four Whale fly-by on tape. I think it was "88" I just checked it out and its in good quality but, I'll have to digitize it befor posting. Hold fast. "John boy"

  • I was in the Q from 72-74; Willlies and Whales forever! Puzzling Evidence TV

  • fantastic, i was in VQ-1 from dec84- dec 87, i miss my whales.
