Wow, I'm so excited! I haven't heard one bad comment about Virgin America. I'm flying them from Ft. Lauderdale to Los Angeles in December. We got a great deal too! $99 dollars you can't beat that!
Great! The fomer senior exectutive from Delta Air Lines that raped the company dry--walked away with millions--which led Delta into bankruptcy. What a fucking prick.
V Australia features the RED system but doesnt have any other commonalities. The V Australia coach seats are nothing like Virgin America, and their Premium Economy and Business class aren't that good either.
I know but why would they need our help? Is he just talking about how people should buy tickets to show that the airline is well wanted? Sorry if these questions don't make sense lol, if they don't, I will reword them.
Yes, very true golf maniac.. the music when you board is more like "cafe del mar" downtemp and soothing. I tell you folks. one amazing thing this airline has to offer aside from COOL interior design and TOO MUCH entertainment that'll drive u crazy is the GREAT SERVICE! We had 1 hr delay due to bad stormy weather at SFO and they had a comedian entertain us so we wouldn't get pissed. Then they somehow got us to NYC in less than 5 hrs! amazing!!
I took VA to NYC from SFO and LOVEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD it! This was better than a first class flight I took from London on another aircrafy and I was in economy....great service...PERFECT!
Yes folks - Welcome Fred Reid. That airline expert of American Airlines and Pan Am fame. Also the only non-German to hold an executive position at Lufthansa German Airlines or, is that Lufthansa Airlines Fred?
The only reason the Germans hired you is to do their dirty work and fire hundreds of hard-working American staffers at Lufthansa in New York. I really hope your 'expertise' is appreciated at Virgin America. Good luck to staff and to passengers.
Richard Branson did this for one reason... because America's airlines have the fattest, meanest, ugliest old spinsters with big hair and bad attitudes working on them as flight attendants. I think he said, enough is enough!
I remeber when i was flying into sfo on a midwest airlines flight, and on touch down, we passed by two virgin america planes that were on the tarmac. They weren't be used at the time though.
My biggest question is why in the world would you base a start-up airline in SFO. High cost-employee turn-over-taxed to the gills and so forth. If this was Branson's Baby and his Money it would make a big difference, but its not. Its only 22% Virgin owned. A new airline start-up is flusing money away. Mood lighting won't pay the fuel cost! Foolish investors!

Why should Virgin AMERICA get this entertainment system
virgin Atlantic should for 2 reasons: 1. Virgin Atlantic was the first and best of the virgin airlines and 2nd virgin atlantc flights are a lot longer!
Fleet upgrade costs maybe? VA aircraft are fresh off the line, so while there, why not install a high grade IFE? Im sure Atlantic will follow suit... well, I hope..
If you have flown on Virgin before, you will understand. The seating space is about the same as any other airline. The difference is that VA employees actually give a crap about their passengers' flight experience. I am sympathetic to the plight of legacy carriers but enough is enough. Time to let the market work!
Yes, I've been interested in this airline for a few years now. Now that I see what it's all about, I want to visit California just so I can fly with them!
Cant wait for VA to take the skies - Virgin is an amazing airline with excellent service, which is why crappy american airlines fear Virgin - Mr. Reid even said that himself.
From what Mr. Reid has presented, it's no wonder that Legacy carriers are lobbying the government to stop VA. The legacy idea of low-fare carriage is to cram you in the back of an old plane (painted in ridiculous colours with stupid names like "Song" and "TED") and nickel and dime you to death. At least airlines like VA and JetBlue make a valiant effort to make sure that low-fare doesn't mean low class.
I flew Virgin Atlantic to London and back to NY a few weeks ago.. It was absolutely incredible. The in flight entertainment was amazing, I can't friggin wait for Virgin America
hmmmm, this IFE, I have seen it somewhere before, the linux complex and the keyboard, If I remember properly, i think it was on Song, and the keyboard was on krisworld, I am not sure, but it seems likely.

But there's just no way around it. Long flights are the pits, one of the Nadir's of the human experience. Everybody finaaallly gets off the plane at the end smelly, cranky, disheveled and tired. Hard to believe even the pilots can get up for the landing after sitting like zombies for more than 1/2 the day, even with watch reliefs. Until you can get on the plane, take a nice shower and hit the sack, long haul air travel at least, will never be up to par. Dirigibles maybe?

yeah i really wish they would let VA fly (sorry for the phrasing there)... i think jetblue, southwest, and continental have all done a great job with either keeping prices low or not skimping on amenities (eg, normal meal service). i feel like VA (which i love when i fly to London) would be another great domestic carrier... *sigh*
thats why they dont want it to fly because it'll kill off all the competition... Its sad when the idea of capitalism is lost. Capitalism is about innovation, and VA has done it, but guess what.. Other US airliners don't want competition..
Kudos to Virgin America for putting this out to generate some public interest - the media certainly wasn't doing much. Nobody is trying to bypass a law witha a viral video... if it was that easy, VA would have done that a long time ago. Who can blame them for putting this out to educate folk about their cause. Look like a great product to me!
At a minimum, the DOT should allow Virgin America the opportunity to earn its wings with the American consumer. If VA suceeds it will be because of hard-working Americans, innovative aircraft, and "top-shelf" service. The fact that VA is willing to offer those things at an affordable price only makes it more reasonable to support them. LET VA FLY!!!
your so fucking full of shit. things from europe are quality? is that why airbus is in the tank right now? is that why it takes many european nations to put together a company of marginal success vs 1 nation(us) to make boeing or others. airbus is doing terrible now and boeing is dominating the widebody market
things from Europe aren't?? explain to me why the germans make better luxury cars than everybody else?? Why do people/airlines prefer the A340 over the 777, the A320 over the 737?? that's what I thought. Who offers quieter, more refined cabins?Range?Comfort?value within pricing? That's what I thought, Airbus.
consider that the 737 has sold more planes that all airbus planes combined.? hmmmm? considering the 777 has sold more than the a340 :(? pricing is relitive and in the airplane game its something thats impossible for either of us to define.
And your point about Airbus? American, United, America West, Frontier, jetBlue, Northwest, Spirit, and USAirways all use Airbus aircraft too. Your just ignorant and racist.
Oh please. Racist and haters, just because they disagree with you?
An airline flying Airbus aircraft, offering a proposed better service than the big airlines, and having in flight video? Sounds like Frontier to me. Excuse me while I tune in to something more important. Like American Idol. zzzzzzzzz
They allow all passenger to plug in and sue their laptops while on board. sonds like a good feature on long flights from SF to NY where you might have a lot of time, and a lot of work to get done.
Domestic flying needs to be left to Americans. It's illegal for foreign carriers to fly domestically in the US. And yes, it's Virgin "America" by name only, it's all run by non-American interests.
Not really, Virgin America is only owned 25% by Virgin, the rest US run. Virgin runs a geat airline in the UK, having flown on them, I found the service was much better than I have experienced lately when flying US carriers. Have you flown United, American or Northwest lateley, last time I did, the seats were old and uncomfortable, there was no food, no in-flight entertainment, and the service was not great. Maybe this competition will force US arilines to improve their planes and service.
that is a very good seat and it definitely beats any of the offers of the obsolete legacy carriers. I hope Virgin America gets permission to fly ASAP!
Why hate for having a good video system. The losers who hate VA because they have neww stuff are retarded.
I love the fact of 110v in every seat, my favorite addition. Also the ethernet port as well. Hopefully this is a airline that is also cheap like Jetblue or close. The seats look nice.
I love airbuses as well hopefully the stupid USDT passes them.
no one gives a sh!t if your tv lets you chat with the dude stuffed into the seat next to you or if you have "mood lighting". all people care about is leg and elbow room and meal quality, come back next year with both of hose things and then ill sign your gay petition
what this video shows is a fancy tv and fancy lights, big deal. people just want room, that plane didnt have any more leg room in first class or coach than any other air carrier. over christmass i flew continental and their tvs did almost all the same shit as those, save for the in flight chat feture. air carrier companies write this down: people want more room and better food, they dont give a shit about "mood lighting" or being able to chat to the dude crammed into the seat next to you.
Actually the seats do have more room. ,You should try listening to what he has to say instead of comming up with a bunch of profanity and a need for spell check.
Virgin will offer inches of pitch as their coach product. Southwest offers 30. JetBlue gives 36, and Frontier gives 32, and 34. If room is really the determinate factor for some, research is needed before choosing your LLC.
More room? Virgin America does give more room. Virgin America is going to be a DOMESTIC airline so you need to compare it to other DOMESTIC aircraft. With that said... the average domestic first class seat only have 36" to 38" seat pitch, Virgin America offers 55" seat pitch. The average for Domestic Economy is 31 to 32", Virgin America offers 32" which is on the high end of the average. Only jetBlue and UnitedPS offers more room, yes some aircraft do offer more room but their really rear.
My hometown airport fully supports them and their letter is linked on the VA site. With as much as my airport has been put through, I give VA my full support.
Oh please. Some old gay guy needs to convince me that his airline should fly so he and the foreign controlled board of directors can make money? Shut up.
First of all gay bashing wont win you any votes here, secondly: If you believe all this shit theyr spreading about a foreign company your a fool. Have you ever owned a japanese car? German car? Ever bought something made in China or Korea or anywhere outside the US? Well I am pretty sure you have and then you support the foreign economy just the same.
You also give US firms competition which gives development, which again is what evelotion is all about... and we cannot stop evolution.
Competition is financially clever as we progress and the companies around the country will keep theyr employees to research and or make theyr produkts, transport theyr produkts and so on..
So, dont be dumb... let VA fly so that the airlines get some competition aswell and seed out the week links and the corrupted men that sits on the top only protecting theyr personal interests on yours and every other american`s expense.
Hmm. Methinks the man doth protest too much. First off, don't be so sensitive. Secondly - did you see their initial financial scheme? Wow - talk about retarded! Let's hope they changed it to be coherent.
Bottom line - there is a law in place that governs this. If they don't abide by the rules, they don't get to play. If the law is inappropriate - change the law - don't try to bypass it by viral video.
Nobody is bypassing a law via viral video...if only it were that easy! Kudos to Virgin America for putting some info out there to stir up some public interest - lord knows the media hasn't been doing much. And a sneak peak at the product to boot. Let VA Fly, indeed!
It`s not about laws when all comes to the end, it`s about a few men trying to protect theyr personal interests.
It is the way of the nature, the weak parish as the strong ones survive... and my experience with North Western alliance is pathetic... and unfortunently for me I had to fly with them more than I really care to.
Oh and speaking about beeing sensitive, with a name like dontflyva i guess you already set the standard!
Competition is good for the consumer and, ultimately, good for the industry. I'm tired of the crappy service on most domestic airlines (I fly 2-4 times a month domestically, 5-6 times a year internationally). _When_ they launch, I will be first in line (or close to it). This isn't about the rules...they are following them. It's about our lawmakers colluding with US airlines to do exactly what we complain about...protect an inefficient industry from competition.
Looks like a great aircraft...although I am concerned with how well seniors and many others who aren't familiar with technology may deal with the entertainment system...they won't be able to get food!, lol
Business 2.0 recently identified the Best business ideas in the world; Virgin Fuel was top of the list. Virgin is developing a formula for a new ultraclean fuel that can power its jets as well as cars and trucks. Branson quotes: "I used to be skeptical of global warming, but now I'm absolutely convinced that the world is spiraling out of control. CO2 is like a bushfire that gets bigger and bigger every year. All of us who are in a position to do something about it must do something.
Virgin is investing over $1 billion in alternative fuels. Virgin fuel will be a clean fuel. Branson quote; "If we've got it right, it could be a very important breakthrough. We think it will work in cars, trucks and trains within a year. We're hoping that it might work in commercial jet engines within five years, possibly sooner. So it will be able to work in Virgin Atlantic planes one day.
why? because legacy carriers cannot handle the heat? i think this is the case. legacy carries have never done half way decent job compared to european or asian airlines. heres for virgin america teaching the leagacys how to do it
Wow, winged headrests with height and tilt adjustments, in coach? If only someone had thought of this before! Oh, wait, they did -- Continental has had those for YEARS in coach.
They can put all the features in you want, but if the ticket price is $5 more than a competitor, they'll lose the sale.
Look up American's "More Room Throughout Coach" program -- people would NOT pay more for a coach seat with more legroom. They lost money, and put the seats back in.
I Hope you people on here are joking about letting these people get an ops cert.. If you are not in the airline biz, you will never understand the pain this will bring to the guys like myself that already fly the skys. Thanks for your support on this very sensitive issue.. Solong
what about labor taking concessions because consumers complain about flying in underpriced coach cabins. Consumers should be footing the operating costs (fuel, etc); not the pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, ramp personell, gate and ticketing agents, etc.
If you force passengers to foot the bill, less and less people would fly, as this would mean highly escalating ticket prices. Inevitably, this would bring about the collapse of several airlines and costs thousands of people their jobs. LCCs are here to stay, and the only way to compete with them is through smart business tactics. You can't fight them, so join them! Air travel is no longer for the elite, as much as some people may hate that, it is now a means of MASS transportation.
If you force drivers to foot the bill, less and less people would drive, as this would mean highly escalating gas prices. Inevitably, this would bring about the collapse of several oil companies and costs thousands of people their jobs. Big Oil is here to stay, and the only way to compete with them is through smart business tactics. You can't fight them, so join them! Car travel is no longer for the elite, as much as some people may hate that, it is now a means of MASS transportation.

yeah i really wish they would let VA fly (sorry for the phrasing there)... i think jetblue, southwest, and continental have all done a great job with either keeping prices low or not skimping on amenities (eg, normal meal service). i feel like VA (which i love when i fly to London) would be another great domestic carrier... *sigh*

Oh yes, I want to fly on this airline.
it's about time you get something besides a bag of nuts and a half can of soda.
zbeast 5 years ago
thats why they dont want it to fly because it'll kill off all the competition... Its sad when the idea of capitalism is lost. Capitalism is about innovation, and VA has done it, but guess what.. Other US airliners don't want competition..

Methinks thou dost hate too much.

Follow the rules and then you can fly. If the rule is out dated - change the rule.

Looks like you are against:
1- Higher level of service
2- Innovations
3- Imporve air travel service
4- Creating job opportunities
5- Creating competition
6- Being fair
7- Raising the standards
xjaspx 5 years ago
At a minimum, the DOT should allow Virgin America the opportunity to earn its wings with the American consumer. If VA suceeds it will be because of hard-working Americans, innovative aircraft, and "top-shelf" service. The fact that VA is willing to offer those things at an affordable price only makes it more reasonable to support them. LET VA FLY!!!

Things from Asia are marginal
Things from america are cheap(Boeing, GM, Ford)
banstaman 4 years ago
your so fucking full of shit. things from europe are quality? is that why airbus is in the tank right now? is that why it takes many european nations to put together a company of marginal success vs 1 nation(us) to make boeing or others. airbus is doing terrible now and boeing is dominating the widebody market
realbiggun500 4 years ago
things from Europe aren't?? explain to me why the germans make better luxury cars than everybody else?? Why do people/airlines prefer the A340 over the 777, the A320 over the 737?? that's what I thought. Who offers quieter, more refined cabins?Range?Comfort?value within pricing? That's what I thought, Airbus.
banstaman 4 years ago
consider that the 737 has sold more planes that all airbus planes combined.? hmmmm? considering the 777 has sold more than the a340 :(? pricing is relitive and in the airplane game its something thats impossible for either of us to define.
realbiggun500 4 years ago
oh, and considering that more flights have been operated by Airbuses, oh yes, you forgot to mention that!
banstaman 4 years ago
i think we can agree servce on most legacy flights sucks. i hope va slays them all and sets new standereds of air travel
realbiggun500 4 years ago
And your point about Airbus? American, United, America West, Frontier, jetBlue, Northwest, Spirit, and USAirways all use Airbus aircraft too. Your just ignorant and racist.
xjaspx 5 years ago
Oh please. Racist and haters, just because they disagree with you?
An airline flying Airbus aircraft, offering a proposed better service than the big airlines, and having in flight video? Sounds like Frontier to me. Excuse me while I tune in to something more important. Like American Idol. zzzzzzzzz

What are the USB and RJ45 (ethernet???) for???
adewolf 5 years ago
The USB and RJ45 plugs are for the passengers to plug into so they can all take turns flying the airplane!
moult37d 5 years ago
heh and crash....
adewolf 5 years ago
They allow all passenger to plug in and sue their laptops while on board. sonds like a good feature on long flights from SF to NY where you might have a lot of time, and a lot of work to get done.

Is this providing Internet connectivity?

Domestic flying needs to be left to Americans. It's illegal for foreign carriers to fly domestically in the US. And yes, it's Virgin "America" by name only, it's all run by non-American interests.
Noktomezo 5 years ago
Not really, Virgin America is only owned 25% by Virgin, the rest US run. Virgin runs a geat airline in the UK, having flown on them, I found the service was much better than I have experienced lately when flying US carriers. Have you flown United, American or Northwest lateley, last time I did, the seats were old and uncomfortable, there was no food, no in-flight entertainment, and the service was not great. Maybe this competition will force US arilines to improve their planes and service.

Why hate for having a good video system. The losers who hate VA because they have neww stuff are retarded.
I love the fact of 110v in every seat, my favorite addition. Also the ethernet port as well. Hopefully this is a airline that is also cheap like Jetblue or close. The seats look nice.
I love airbuses as well hopefully the stupid USDT passes them.

no one gives a sh!t if your tv lets you chat with the dude stuffed into the seat next to you or if you have "mood lighting". all people care about is leg and elbow room and meal quality, come back next year with both of hose things and then ill sign your gay petition
georgelovesdirt 5 years ago
meal quality on a domestic flight? HAHAHAHAHA... thats the funniest thing I've heard... ever.
xjaspx 5 years ago
what this video shows is a fancy tv and fancy lights, big deal. people just want room, that plane didnt have any more leg room in first class or coach than any other air carrier. over christmass i flew continental and their tvs did almost all the same shit as those, save for the in flight chat feture. air carrier companies write this down: people want more room and better food, they dont give a shit about "mood lighting" or being able to chat to the dude crammed into the seat next to you.
georgelovesdirt 5 years ago
Actually the seats do have more room. ,You should try listening to what he has to say instead of comming up with a bunch of profanity and a need for spell check.
skywestav8r 5 years ago
Virgin will offer inches of pitch as their coach product. Southwest offers 30. JetBlue gives 36, and Frontier gives 32, and 34. If room is really the determinate factor for some, research is needed before choosing your LLC.
Star841 5 years ago
Only jetBlue and UnitedPS offers more room, yes some aircraft do offer more room but their really rear.

dontflyva 5 years ago
I think your statement is kinda retarted.
First of all gay bashing wont win you any votes here, secondly: If you believe all this shit theyr spreading about a foreign company your a fool. Have you ever owned a japanese car? German car? Ever bought something made in China or Korea or anywhere outside the US? Well I am pretty sure you have and then you support the foreign economy just the same.
ballajazzhus 5 years ago
You also give US firms competition which gives development, which again is what evelotion is all about... and we cannot stop evolution.
Competition is financially clever as we progress and the companies around the country will keep theyr employees to research and or make theyr produkts, transport theyr produkts and so on..
ballajazzhus 5 years ago
So, dont be dumb... let VA fly so that the airlines get some competition aswell and seed out the week links and the corrupted men that sits on the top only protecting theyr personal interests on yours and every other american`s expense.
ballajazzhus 5 years ago
If the law is inappropriate - change the law - don't try to bypass it by viral video.
dontflyva 5 years ago
Methinks thou dost hate too much.
Nobody is bypassing a law via viral video...if only it were that easy! Kudos to Virgin America for putting some info out there to stir up some public interest - lord knows the media hasn't been doing much. And a sneak peak at the product to boot. Let VA Fly, indeed!
neoclassik 5 years ago

Besides Virgin is doing alot in research for cleaner fuels is giving away a pretty decent amount from theyr profits just for this cause.
ballajazzhus 5 years ago
Business 2.0 recently identified the Best business ideas in the world; Virgin Fuel was top of the list. Virgin is developing a formula for a new ultraclean fuel that can power its jets as well as cars and trucks. Branson quotes: "I used to be skeptical of global warming, but now I'm absolutely convinced that the world is spiraling out of control. CO2 is like a bushfire that gets bigger and bigger every year. All of us who are in a position to do something about it must do something.
mshowfer 5 years ago
Virgin is investing over $1 billion in alternative fuels. Virgin fuel will be a clean fuel. Branson quote; "If we've got it right, it could be a very important breakthrough. We think it will work in cars, trucks and trains within a year. We're hoping that it might work in commercial jet engines within five years, possibly sooner. So it will be able to work in Virgin Atlantic planes one day.

What about the pain of consumers trapped in overpriced, featureless coach cabins?
omaryak 5 years ago
what about labor taking concessions because consumers complain about flying in underpriced coach cabins. Consumers should be footing the operating costs (fuel, etc); not the pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, ramp personell, gate and ticketing agents, etc.
cwebster2 5 years ago
If you force passengers to foot the bill, less and less people would fly, as this would mean highly escalating ticket prices. Inevitably, this would bring about the collapse of several airlines and costs thousands of people their jobs. LCCs are here to stay, and the only way to compete with them is through smart business tactics. You can't fight them, so join them! Air travel is no longer for the elite, as much as some people may hate that, it is now a means of MASS transportation.
