  • I like that Nash says "humans" instead of "people" lol.......I guess he is trying to be as objective as possible.

  • Game theory is a way of understanding those around you by constructing their relationships between each other. All based on self-interest.

    It's genius.

John Nash isn't an idiot, those who think so have issues.

  • Governing Dynamics

  • It doesnt take reactions into account just because he only explained single simultaneus move games, more recent game theory have new equilibriums for diferents type of games incluiding cooperation between the players. Its kinda san this video trys to make game theory look like a "dont trust anyone" concept instead of the "if u want to play fair only get involved in games with fair rules" it actually is.

  • Doesnt seem to take in account the reaction to your actions. If you screw over your fellow man they wont want to play with you anymore. That is why most humans will trust.

  • @piedpiperz80 That would be a sequential game.

  • Nash's theory is such rubbish. It only works once for a one time gain. You can't have a business relationship or a personal relationship without trust. If it's a one time deal then yes it is best to cheat and be ruthless, but life continue's after the game and as such we have to build relationships of trust. His theory is pretty sloppy, most of us learn this "theory" through monopoly or some other such game, but it is just that, a game. Trust is imperative to move forwards as a species.

  • @flyattic lordy .. can u not see that is exactly how the world economy works? nobody trusts anybody..PERIOD.. this is why his theory is essential. those of us who do trust, and try to be true.. are screwed.. and the fact that beg business KNOWS that most normal folks do TRUST and play FAIR.. they are able to keep the working people in check by giving them a bone.. there was a book written in the early 60s by one of kennedys cronies called "give the dog a bone" and it taught how to cheat the US

  • @flyattic

I'd say the applicability of game theory is limited in scope; rather than outright 'bullshit'.

  • in Latin America john nash is a man respected not wise

As discussed, I am an economist and I'm disappointed by john

    nash, I WANT MORE!!

john nash, deserves the Nobel Prize or not, explain why ..

  • in Latin America john nash is a man respected not wise

    nash, I WANT MORE!!

  • i think this thing about family is quite well known and common sense. of course people in the family are always fighting each other... always being selfish to get their own way. but i alot of this is secret to the people in the family. they don't know necessarily that they are using love for control.

  • Wow... around the 8:00 mark the slant on this damn video went way 1 sided. I was totally agreeing with the idea that the common "family" is corrupt on an objective level --maybe not COMPLETELY "loveless", but corrupt-- then BAM! They just flipped it & said he was part of the problem & helping to spread paranoia & hatred. Really? Wow... just, wow.

  • Game theory does not claim to reach the Nash equilibrium in EVERY case. Game theory seeks to explain the situations where co-operation does not emerge, yet there is a balance in society.

Common case, non-collusive sticky prices in oligopolies.

  • @a199215

Game theory is not mend to be absolute.

  • i think the way to test that kind of theorems is totally false. it is IMPOSSIBLE to test reality on unreal conditions.

  • This documentary make seriously false conclusions of the game theory. in a prisoner's dilemma, it's better for both actors to cooperate! By following their self-interested strategy, actors would end up with a worse and Pareto-inefficient outcome! The cold-war strategy is not a PD, but a chicken game and it's rational result is sub-optimal too! How is it possible that a documentary about game theory says the opposite that the theory has actually revealed? Simply put: this documentary is rubbish.

  • @Politoblog it's strange, for whatever reason they seemed to have contorted, and twisted Nash's own views, took quick little excerpts of what he said, and changed the dynamic of what he meant for this documentary. It's and interesting Docu. but appears to be flawed on many levels while portraying itself to be very balanced.......not sure why though.

  • The fact that human behavior can accurately be *modeled* in terms of selfishness and self-interest doesn't mean that human beings actually are always that way. It is important to distinguish between the model and reality. For example: people don't prefer one outcome to another because that outcome has a higher utility. It is exactly the other way around.

  • It is not a "new way of organizing society"...

  • The views and ideas of a psychopaths. This is what happens when psychopaths are scientist. They think everyone thinks like they do, only out of self interest.

  • @ZullGostnu2 Don't we all? The idea of everyone working together is your own self interest for a better world for yourself is it not? It is impossible to be SELFLESS, even those people that are considered "unselfish" act on the feeling they recieve from doing those "selfless acts"...

  • i dont know but only for me perfect theory but probability theory may be built on an experiment...

  • this is bullshit. i am an economist and i can tell you first hand that this documentary simplifies game theory to absurdity, try to push some political message.

  • Anyone who has taken a course in game theory, or even watched proper online lecture videos would know that. It's unfortunate when information must be distorted so lazy laymen can "understand" what's going on.

  • Really? In that case could you direct me then to those better videos where I could learn directly from Dr. Nash about hist theory?

  • @keyinregulus3 look up NASH EQUILIBRIUM

  • do you speak with full consideration and knowledge about the any tampering of what you might have been thought for the sake of self-interest?

I just look at point where are you standing and from where you speak and go wtf?

    you stated,, i am a eco-no-me ist

meaning you have no consideration for life

only money. economics you are taught to make the system run. not to change it. system works for some only. what if we were all are economists where would all (economist) wealth go?

  • @authmaax

Economics is nothing to do with money. Economics is the study of scarcity. Or choice.

It just happens that money fits the bill for economics.

This is why game theory is so applicable to economics. Game Theory mathematically analyzes which choices are best.

  • @frankiedetorie economy is a talent in profitting best

profiting more... choice... produce this prodoct and not other

while that happens the earth resources is consumed

the earth resources end and it remain... will the ME's do?

and they ME's realise they didnt they see that they were merely trying to win all the time, distracted.

you can translate that into assets... i mean, see it in points of this physical world already happening, its not that hard.

  • @authmaax No its not. Your talking shit.

Not only is your point disjointed but you do not recognize that part of economics is factoring in the negative externalities of production or consumption.

You are getting free markets confused with the study of economics.

  • @frankiedetorie lol externalities yes... consequence of the separation

    the name given is specific...

the solution is in the problem...

"externali-ties" yep.... make shure you unite. you (tie) and manage and equate (marriage) the demand equaly...

    now... reality check;

let me guess... you "fear losing profit" lol.

    Do you?

if you say you do... i think you'v just confirmed what i said before.... "you tell me"!

  • @authmaax

Either what you have said is so incredibly intelligent that I cannot understand it or it it is complete bullshit. I suspect the later is true.

Do you know what externalities are?

I do not think you have a clue what economics is.

  • @frankiedetorie The real causes of externalities is self-interest, personality, desire (for profit) at individual level.

Economics does not study those points.

IF you tie up economics with psychology maybe you start to get solution.

Else what prevails is .. "Divide and conquer" only some win.

Also look at who taxes existed in the medieval times.

That robbery is still being practiced, and deliberatly desguised as "moral hazard"'.

"Ah Isn't economics beautiful" some 'L say.

    /watch?v=t5LdbCr-Y4Y

  • @authmaax Economics is the study of scarcity. It is not the study of profit maximization. Business studies is.

Economics is the attempt to understand markets and people when left with limited resources and infinite wants.

  • @frankiedetorie scar city...

    s-car-city

the word scarcity really means something there...

  • @authmaax You are a fucking idiot

    Not even remotely related.

s-car-city WTF are you talking about.

  • @frankiedetorie words are coded symbols contain several words (as symbols) all consciousness is programmed systems functioning with symbols its not unconditional life expression example: your fun its a fun.ction... a fun-action is a function... input (perceptiion) aplication(processing) output (reaction) life words sin-bolize action acts physical happenings some idiot had that ideia of programming a system that became our minds... and now we think we are alive living life. understandable?
  • @authmaax I get what you are saying. And I think it is just bullshit.

  • Is it so ground breaking to come to a conclusion that all life is defined by its struggle with itself to survive?

i think we have known this for a long time.

  • @16309470 It was groundbreaking to prove it with mathematics.

  • whoa best game theory / nash-fan vid i've found on youtube by FAR. The end of this clip is the best.

  • Love is war!

    War is love!

  • crazy sonbitch won the nobel prize..then again so did obama for...not sending enough troops to afghanistan??

  • The Nobel Peace Prize is no where near the same as the Nobel Prize's given to the Science Fields. The Nobel Peace Prize is widely reported and given way to much significance(in most cases) as the recipients are chosen for political reasons rather than actually achievement(see. Obama, Gore, etc.)

  • Game Theory as actually proven that the best strategy in a prolonged community and prolonged exposure is Tit for tat. Trust first, then answer the opponent with whatever he has done before.

  • And so developed realism

  • what the heck ?
