haha, shows what you know... This is the "real" one... the discrete when you leave one is an overdub that they had to use - i'm guessing to avoid copyright infringement.. It's also possible that they changed the lyrics on this one slightly to try and avoid copyright.... "over-towering"? it's not that hard to sing the right lyrics

The only reason I give him/her to bitch about it, is that you said this was the 'real' one, because the real one is a song from My Fair Lady, a classic musical.

The one used in the American version of the show is not a real song, they made up the words so that they would match up with his mouth.

It's just a huge thing to avoid copyright.

I don't know about in About a Boy but in Skins all of his singing except the last episode is Roly out of Bristol School's Chamber Choir. and in episode 5 that's the girls senior choir singing God Only Knows and the senior boys singing after that.
