@wolverine223 i dont think you can kill a guy like Francisco Filho, Andy Hug, Shokei Matsui, etc, they are profesionals and can kill you, you have a video showing your technique or sparrings, i dont think so, you are only an amateur that behind a keyboard feels like a "pro"....sorry bro
@wolverine223 In the 1960's Muay Thai gyms, convinced they were the ultimate stand up fighting style, challenged all Japanese karate dojos to compete. Only Kyokushin karate responded. They went to Thailand, and on on thai home turf, won 2 out of the three matches. Check your history. There are many types of karate, and a lot of watered down weak ass shit ripping off students. Kyokushin is the real deal. OSU!
@scarred10 You mean in the thai matches? Not sure what rules they used, but in Kyokushin rules there are no gloves. The founder insisted on this as he felt it was "real fighting". In the early days face punches were allowed, but it was too bloody, so they amended the rules (only for the sport - we still train face punches in the dojo for self-defense). Considering those thai matches were in the early days of Kyokushin, it's reasonable to assume they were bareknuckle bouts including face punches.
@PhilipSneyd they definitely were not bareknuckle fullcontact face punches and never were in karate either. No martial art has allowed that in competition except burmese boxing which still does(just wraps). The only way to allow face punching is to wear boxing gloves. You cant run a dojo with bareknuckle headshots ,either 50 yrs ago or now.,its not practical due to frequent cuts and injury.
@scarred10 Exactly. That's why they stopped it. But some Kyokushin schools are apparently bringing it back. Google "worldwidegrappling kyokushin move return to face punches". An interesting read. Burmese boxing isn't the only current bareknuckle competition either. There's also bare knuckle Vale Tudo MMA in Brazil. Check it out on YouTube.
@PhilipSneyd bareknuckle stand up is different to vale tudo in that they arent forced to stand and exchange and dont often do so,they clinch and takedown. They also dont train like that, its impossible. Its also illegal in brazil as far as I know, its an underground organisation.
@scarred10 Yes, and after takedown they ground and pound bareknuckle. Illegal or not, it's about as close to "real fighting" as you can get in a sport, don't you agree? It sounds like you didn't check out the link about Kyokushin schools re-introducing their headshots in competition. I tried to post a direct link, but youtube don't allow urls. Just copy & paste "worldwidegrappling kyokushin move return to face punches" into google and click the 1st link listed. It's from a wrestling website too.
@scarred10 Dude, I know Phil! Hes been training kyokushin in Japan for about ten years. His teacher is Akira Masuda who trained under Mas Oyama and also completed a 100 man kumite like in the video above. I think its fair to say he probably knows a bit more about his style and its history than you do. wtf!
@mmajosh1981 Thanks for the support, but I can stand up for myself. Besides, we're just talking about martial arts. No harm in that. And it's 9 years, not 10 :)
@scarred10 Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for Muay Thai. I train both Kyokushin and MT and neither my dojo nor gym have any problem with that. I think they are both awesome fighting arts, each with certain techniques the other doesn't have. It's kind of ridiculous for anyone to state that one is "better" than the other if they haven't trained seriously in both.
@wolverine223 gay sparring match? well isnt muay thai the one where you slowely back one guy into ropes then hug him? go back to watching ufc would ya
WoW!!! Very very nice video man, Thanks for sharing such fantastic martial arts history here with us. No Doubt there is very devastating, technically sound, and effective striking methods here today's mixed martial artists can appreciate and learn from. I understand that GSP is a 4th Dan in Kyokushin. It is nice to see styles with such rich history being brought into the arena of Mixed Martial Arts. Thank you.
With respect and humility to Sensei Matsui and his Master Oyama. Arigato Gozaimasu!
It is my understanding that Mr. Mastui was born in Japan and that he is Zainichi: A Korean (and or others) that have legal Japanese permanent residency. Thank you for your time. Osu
All styles of Karate, TKD, Muay Thai, Savate, San Shou, and kickboxing are well represented in K1 style events. Unlike BJJ and Wrestling there is big money in the striking arts outside of MMA ( he specific sport not the descriptive definition). It is not until K1 style events loose their popularity till we will see the striking arts fully developed in MMA. Nonetheless Machida, Nakahara, Kikuno, Liddell, Bas Rutten, GSP etc... are successful karate fighters in MMA
@Brahmanfire gsp is a black belt in it but hasnt practised since long before he started mma because its not effective for it.He uses thaiboxing and boxing for striking not karate
@scarred10 karate is effectively used by many mma fighters across the world. GSP transitions and uses what best suits the situation.... successful mma fightes are most often multi-disciplined and flow smoothly in their transitions from one form to the next. thanks anyway.
@Brahmanfire its used by virtually nobody but many have trained it,machida is the only 1 so far to use it at elite level. All mma fighters are multiskilled but karate isnt one of them because kickboxing/thai does the same job only better.
@scarred10 my favorite striking art is Muay Thai and I trained Kickboxing and others. MMA fighters DO use Karate whether you acknowledge it or not. I've been seeing many more karate style kicks as of late as well. You're very biased and judgmental concerning this subject. You're not contributing much per your comments on this video why don't you go act "mister Expert master Martial Arts Know it All from my couch" somewhere else. There's enough "i'm right n ur wrong" blabber mouths...
@Brahmanfire how would you know a karate kick since the same kicks are used in many arts. You never seee karate punches or blocks ,its boxing thats used.I dont comment to contribute to anything, its an argument.
@godslove115 Osu is something that is said out of respect, understanding, and veneration. It is used very interchangeably to aknowledge your instructors instruction, and also used when entering and exiting the dojo. Yes women compete in this too!
@godslove115 Ofc women can compete, martial arts arent limited to gender. Martial Arts knows no gender. OSU can also be used as an oath solidifyer. Something of a promise to something you're determined to do.
Kancho proved that you don't need to be a body builder to be able to fight and achieve all you could possibly want to achieve in fighting knockdown tournaments. OSU!

Also, it's not pronounced oosss or ousss, it's Oh-ss.
I hope this helps.

@godslove115 Osu is a macho sport Japanese term, it is short for Onegaishimasu.
Let me be clear on that, it's a rough, musculin greeting in men's sports directed by men towards men usually.
...But yeah sure chicks can compete.
