i think he was quite smart but if you apply what he says in this lecture to cannabis he is full of shit!!!!! how dare he assume that all "narcotics" destroy the nervous system or lead to violence. as far as i'm concerned alot of this is the type of crap that leads to the mass incarceration and stigmatization of nonviolent humans and a peaceful spiritual practice. i wish i was there to call him on some very unscientific BULLSHIT!!!!

@portaltechnology32  I dont think you understand what hes saying. Of anybody, I would think that Manly P Hall, having written the most complete book on religious teachings throughout history, would know of these religions you speak of. Can you name one? Unfortunately, it is not a convenient fact that doing as mild of a drug as Ganja does in fact have negative consequences. Its actually scientifically confirmed, but thats not to support those who have never tried it. see next post...

@portaltechnology32 What physically happens when you smoke is this: the fatty covering to your nerve endings, called the Milan Sheath, starts to wear away leaving the end exposed. This is what a habitual smoker experiences when he stops smoking. He finds himself uncomfortable, irritated, and over-sensitive (as has been my experience). What Hall was advocating was discernment. Not necessarily abstinence. Cows milk has codene in it, so this shows drugs are natural but dont go getting drunk on milk
