Stop freaking our guys,MCAT is easy as hell if you study atleast 3 months before it.You have to understand the related subjects, not to learn everything letter by letter...I know some people who studied only a month for it and aced it,got
accepted, while some others studied over 4 months in advance, stressed out for nothing and fucked the exam up.This test is nothing outrageous, only basics involved,if you went through undergrad and got over 3.8 of GPA,MCAT should be a walk in the park for you.
@WarrenAch: Yeah, I'am back I F'ed up my exam.. studied everything, every single detail and yet, was not able to look up everything and then my family expected me to spend time with them and that did not help lol...
Thanks for the comment! Your bombastic, I had to make up a word. I mean I hope my schedule works, I mean (I'am a junior) I get out of school May 8th and I got from that time to July 16th to study for the Mcat. I really had wanted to study more this semester but taking three 5 hour lab classes during the week destroyed any chance of me studying during the spring. Overall, if I dont do well this summer, I basically will have to wait by being a full time medical scribe after my senior year.
@bomberfun1 Wasn't crying.. just giving advice. 8 hour study days are par for the course M2 year anyhow, so you should get used to it.
The only thing I'd add now is that you shouldn't leave anything for the summer before med school. I almost burned myself out on taking my math requirements ending 2 weeks before school started.. Relax. If anything, you should take it MORE easy than you usually do the summer before M1 year. Don't worry about school at all until it starts.
Iam going to study for 360 hours... during this summer..60 days 6 hours a day.. I may burn myself out and not have any friends or social life left, but I am not letting this test beat me!
Don't think you have to put in that much time... It depends on how hard you try when you're actually taking the classes. I only studied for 70 hours over 3 weeks, then I took 4 full length practice tests (~4 hours each, taking breaks but skipping the writing section). Scored a 39, currently attending a top 5 US medical school.
@jesca215 Not bad at all, I'm almost finished with 1st year. 2nd year is sure to be a different story, with much more material and Step 1 hanging over my head. I will say that my impression of what would make a good medical student has completely changed over the course of the year. Success here has almost nothing to do with intelligence, it's entirely about perseverance. Also, the person who is probably struggling the most here scored 14,14,15 (43) on the MCAT, lol. Seriously though.
a DO school is an osteopathic school. There are two types of medical schools. One is called Allopathic (MD) and one is called osteopathic (DO) both are physicians. The big difference is DO's learn OMM which is like what physical therapists may do or chiropractors, but in addition they learn all of the medicine that MD's learn. They really arent a bad choice, and in fact many people go that way instead of MD, its easier to get into, and most schools are private.

lol...m stressing since im canadian...dunno how american schools like us O.o but m not done first year and my gpa looks to be between 3.8 and 4.0 after exams....
It does for some places. If you have good volunteering/research, really good letters of rec, and great MCAT numbers, some places will take you anyway. My GPA ended up at 3.46. I only got into 2/8 schools I tried for.
If you don't have all of the other things, I'd apply to a LOT of schools. Maybe someone will like you. Oh yeah. DO school is good for a backup. It's not a bad degree at all. DOs do basically the same training nowadays.
as long as your GPA isn't sub 3.2, it won't be a problem at all if your MCAT is awesome. Don't worry about what others say, they don't know what they're talking about. But you do need some EC activities.
Err. With a 4.0 and good letters/volunteering or experience, you'll only need a 31 to be pretty much assured of getting accepted. If you hit 35, you'll be able to get in at really good schools. Just don't be overconfident, the interviewers can smell it, and who knows, you might end up needing your 8'th choice. ;).
Unless you live in California, then you'll still have a slog. Apply out of state too in that case.
wow congrats. that's what? like about 8.6 weeks? congrats on your success :) what materials did you use? and what practice tests (aside the AAMC ones) did you do?
Exam crackers. The one that comes as a stack of books like 2.5-3.5" thick. Went through it 3 times. I took ALL the AAMC tests including 3 under real-life conditions (breaks, duration, etc) 2 weeks before the actual.
@twweety9 dont be, just take it easy. Im in pre med too and im in my 2nd year. I just got my book to study for the MCAT so its a good thing you are having an early start.

only 2/8? wow, poor guy who got into 25% of the med schools he applied to. Most people don't even get into one medical school each year.
adamP90X 3 years ago
Heh. A *BIG* most.
I was just saying that despite a tremendous MCAT and letters, 6/8 rejected me (4 told me straight up they don't go below 3.5 firm).

How the fuck did you not score a 45? I did 3 hrs per day for 2 months during school and pulled a 40. You need to reconsider the way you study.
