most of the meherins went south some cherokee the meherins were iroquois's but they different language they would travel from virgina to south america they wrestle reptle's they were called the mud people cause they lived on swamp land
One famous descendant by the name of Joaquin Murieta: a bandit of both Chilean (mother had Cherokee ancestry, they were land owners) & Mexican descent in California during the gold rush (1850's) fought in gun battles against Anglo settlers & the U.S. cavalry. Murieta had a sympathic feeling toward Californian Indians & the dispossessed Mexicans, in part his ancestry was Cherokee. +
Perhaps to explain the mixture of Peruvian & Guatemalan features in this "Cherokee" music group: the Cherokee are known to settled in Latin America in the late 18th & 19th centuries, though a smaller number than the Maya, Inca, Aymara or Guarani...since the Cherokee are of North American origins. +
I liked it, the music is generally good & has a melody to relax with. However, its a combination of several American Indian peoples' music, clothing or ceremonial styles. For a youtube member to title it a "Cherokee spirit" song is inaccurate, unless he/she was half-right on the group's intention to represent Cherokee AND South American Indian peoples. +
Good music, but these guys aren't Cherokee. They're a Guatemalan or Peruvian flute band dressing up in North American "Native Style" clothing. Nothing but fake feathers. It's kind of sad...there's a lot of these groups these days that dress this way just because it fools the European crowds and sells more CD's. There's no pan flutes in Cherokee music or in North American Native music at all for that matter.
I was just about to comment and basically say the same thing. So many wanna be's nowadays too which is also unfortunate as it gives non native people the wrong idea about our culture(s), fuels stereotypes etc. Anyways, no point in posting another text comment about it, looks like you got that covered already.
