What a velvet voice. This was my moms favorite male singer. He's black and he's gay. SO WHAT!! People always seem to want to try to bring someone down because of their own inferiority complex. Why can't we just accept people for who they are, and love the gifts that they share with us? Great voice, Johnny. Thanks for the memories of my dear departed mom, smiling and playing your music on her old phonograph player.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
@noalittleaboutlot but i never said nothing offensive about him or his music i just said hes gay that's it another thing is that people find the word gay offensive when it's not even the case I'm just saying people need to fix their definition of words if they don't know but you could say gay people hi jacket the word from happy but still i wasn't trying to offend ok
Whenever I hear this man singing, whatever time, whatever place, I have to stop and listen. Despite all the garbage hes had to endure during his lifetime for being black as well as gay- he gave and continues to give the world more moments of love and musical grace than any performer that I know. God bless Johnny Mathis.
I had to play this for my 8th grade jazz band. Almost the entire song was just me playing with the band backing me up. I didn't realize how much I liked this song, or the times I performed it, until I saw this again.
I saw him, here in Philly,@ The opening season of The Kimmel Center. There was a row of women ,with big hair, swaying side to side, in front of me. I tapped one on the shoulder, when the show was over, and told them I enjoyed watching them enjoying Johnny,. They told me they never miss a show. That was my first time experencing him. Loved him since my childhood.
As a kid growing up I loved the song and the memories of this song is deeply imbedded in my heart and mind. So thought provoking, the mellow and soothing sounds of the violins and clarinet and of course Mr. Mathis blessed with such a tranquil voice. May I soon be blessed to see him in concert with my wife.
This is the kind of music that that are in romantic comedies today, project that fifty years down the road and the movies will have rap????? I don't think so.
Love you Johnny, yesterday, today and forever. I loved you when I met you in 1959 at the Copa when I was 14 and you still transport me to another world. Thank you Johnny and thank you for posting.
I guess after reading so many posts on this sight we have gotten away from the greatness of this individual and the many, many memories his songs bring back. Trashing someone else's comment here doesn't dignify this individual. Listen to his music and think about the many loves you had when he was signing them for your pleasure. Too bad he's black??? My Lord, would he have the same beautiful voice if he wasn't? Who are you to make that kind of statetmen? He was a beautiful person, skin, voice, style, Etc!!!!
@OkieDokie306 OMG, someone actually said that? He was in the class - and I do mean CLASS - of the great Nat King Cole! This is such a soothing song which is forever a gift to listen to!

Spastic (mentally) and tick are both part of that name. How appropriate! S/he would not have the capacity to understand the feelings you've expressed. Why waste your breath?

I generally don't respond at random to comments. Today for some reason I am. To the mention of the 23 dislikes....to each his own. I could not count the many different venues and times in the last 60 plus years that Johnny has sung this his signature song. Each time is more beautiful than the last. Secondly, I don't understand the need to allude to someone's private life choices....irregardless of what they are. It hurts me to read it. How must it hurt the person. ....Think please.
@celtica99 I Love this song! I always listened to the vinyl record from my aunt...now I see the man Himself...I have goose-bumps!!! Great !! I agree with you!! Love xxxx
OMG! Johnny Mathis in the1960's and for decades and decades afterwards was THE singer of love ballads! Sinatra was absolutely fantastic, but the "mellow soft romantic" sound of Mathis was unique! Johnny is still the one of a kind performer of love ballads!
4fourdogs You mention your grandson. My oldest is 17 and he has been singing /listening to Johnny since he was born!! I can still remember him singing Christmas "tapes" etc.....we would try to out sing the other. To this day if we are out and Johnny comes over the music system he will nudge me and say "do you hear him Nana"? Still tickles me! Thank you for bringing that memory back. Sweet!!!!!
Johnny Mathis is truly the best singer, I have been listening to his songs since I was at a very young age and enjoy it everytime. He has this special magic voice that is perfect for love songs. It make me feel this world is much lovelier and beautiful than it is actually. Thank you so much for posting his songs.
I went to see Jonny Mathis in the seventies he sang a song called 99 miles to LA you could have heard a pin drop he was so good to bad my 21 yr old granson has never heard of him
I've loved listening to Johnny Mathis ever since the first time I heard my mother & father listening to his old vinyl records...... I've been hooked ever since.....I get misty when I hear him sing.... on adreambeach....
I love the voice of Andy Williams (so many good songs), and some of John Mathis (too much too little too late), Charlie Rich (Behind Closed Doors) and Engelbert Humpderdink (a man without love). Not so much a fan of Bobby Darin, Buble, Groban type etc but they are okay.
Any other singers i you guys reckon I should try and listen to that I might like?
Wonderful song and version by Johnny's magical voice! And to think it had taken so many many years for this song to grow on me, before i began to like it! Now I absolutely adore it !
six foot.....What is also true...these things he sings...when the love of our lives come along....we feel.....might not be able to say...but...we feel.....
I was a very young man when I saw this man walk down the steps of the Rex Hotel in Sydney Australia. Black men were exotic in Australia at the time and I thought that he was the most beautiful man that I had ever seen. I will always regret that u never had the courage to just walk up to him and tell him so. Believe me folks he was more than beautiful, whatever that is!
I was 17 at the time, 1955 thru 1959 was the great "Rock and Roll" era. These Johnny Mathis songs were recorded In a Astoria Queens NY sound studio! They included, " Look at me", Wonderful Wonderful", The Twelveth of Never", "Misty" and others! The quality of these sounds, then, and now are timeless.
I remember listening to this on forces favourites on Sunday mornings 9-12 while mam was cooking Sunday dinner :) takes me right back. :) love it. Thanx
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is before Blacks integrated with the evil cultureless whites and ruined their beautiful culture. No wonder other groups stay int heir ethnic enclaves and dont even assimilate all the way.Even certain white groups (especially italians) seperate themselves from the white anglo general population and maintain culture.
Nothing good comes outta integrating with whites , blacks made a huge mistake
@BlacknesUnforgivable - AND "YOU" THINK WHITES ARE RACIST???? MY FAMILY "NEVER" HAD SLAVES...WE WERE FROM OHIO..WHICH HELPED TO GET 'YOURS' OUT OF THE SOUTH & 'FREE' YOUR PEOPLE (WHICH SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED IF YOUR 'OWN PEOPLE' WOULD HAVE NOT SOLD YOU INTO SLAVERY IN THE FIRST PLACE) ..WE HAVE OUR CULTURE, I AM OF SCOTTISH HERITAGE & WE HAVE A "VERY PROUD CULTURE"...AND OUR FAMILIES ARE STILL THERE & HERE...JUST LIKE YOURS. WE OBVIOUSLY MADE A HUGE MISTAKE BY TRUSTING THOSE LIKE YOU.
My favorite male vocalist forever! No one will ever touch him. He is a rare God given talent and his voice is his instrument. Saw him live years ago. He always gave extra performances for his fans. Very shy, humble, human being.
I too think Johnny Mathis is one of the best at performing this song. I love jazz ballads, which is the reason I recorded my sax solo of "Misty" and added the lyrics as written by Johnny Burke, and which Johnny Mathis uses when he performs it. Click on my user name or search YouTube for "AltoSax250 Misty sax solo with Lyrics" Let me know what you think of it.
I get misty when I think of someone like Gikwang.

OMG! Johnny Mathis in the1960's and for decades and decades afterwards was THE singer of love ballads! Sinatra was absolutely fantastic, but the "mellow soft romantic" sound of Mathis was unique! Johnny is still the one of a kind performer of love ballads!
"Misty" is one of his greatest songs!

You don 't have to be "stoned" to listen to the beautiful music of Johnny Mathis...He should make you "high" just listening to him....

Well even though I was joking its very true that a large percentage of men do not express such feelings, its just the way life is.

JM is actually not a human, of course. No human can sing like that. Neither is Orbison or Pitney. Think aliens !!!

BlacknesUnforgivable 11 months ago
@BlacknesUnforgivable
by saying they made a huge mistake implies they had a choice.
jpmorgan187 11 months ago
