I don't believe that castillo has criminal tendencies, he was acting on emotion. I believe that he was clinically depressed with OCD which lead to his suicidal tendencies but in my opinion those were his only mental deficiencies. He showed a degree of calcuation when it came to the shootings and murder. It sad that castillo has to be incarcerated with people with actual criminal tendencies- Robbers, sex offenders and intentional murderers.
Alvaro isn't insane just imaginative and emotional unstable but not mentally unstable, Castillo was still very immature and lived only in the moment, hence his actions were impulsive and intensely emotional, he just needed to mature.
Alvaro is mentally unstable. The doctors just failed to treat him properly for the DSM-IV diagnosis. He was just a teenager though and I agree, he needed to mature, he never got a chance to live life like everyone else or feel love.
