I'm a graduate of BS. Medical Technology and passed the AMT exam 12 years ago, however I did not used my profession and work as a teacher since, I also took the necessary units in teaching. Now that I am in US, I would like to work as a Medical Technologist, are there hospitals, who are willing to train someone like me to just refresh my memories about the daily work of a Medical Technologist?
Well in florida if you have a bachelors of science and then go back to get an associates in MLT (then become MT) you can only be an MT in florida if you move out of state you are an MLT!!! That sucks
hello :) i'm planning to take up med.tech as my course next school year. how hard it is ma'am/sir? how fun? and what can you give as your advices to me?.. reply back .. :) thank you!
In my neck of the woods - the two (technician 2 year and technologists 4-year) mostly have practically the same job, except areas like Bloodbank, Immuno/Sero, and Micro are most commonly performed by Med Technologists. Laboratory is the most unappreciated portion of healthcare. Seems your average person does not know, much less appreciate what "Laboratory" does. So you shouldn't go into this line of work if you need constant praise or 'appreciation' from employers or the gen. community!! HeHe
Some states require a certefication as well. I am glad my state does not. All lab jobs require a BS in med tech or science. Work load is heavy, pay is under the average and more on par with working class jobs. Working conditions differ greatly from lab to lab. This is a field that gives no oportunity for growth. As an immigrant I should not complain too much for being a med tech, I could have it worse.
yeah why would you have to be crazy? I'm an MLT and not crazy. I'm going on to get my BS but unfortunatly there aren't many schools so the easiest is to become an MLT then go for MT at an online school. And Technicians and Technologists do the same job but Technologists are authorized to work on their own while Technicians have to have a Technologist present while working.
well actually it depends on experience as well. if you have a BS and no experience you will still be a technician for 6mo.s to a year. I am a technologist for now, though I am switching professions.
Wow- you're kidding. Here if you have a BS (and additionally have been certified [ASCP, especially]) it automatically qualifies you for a Med Technologist position.
Lol where I am, there are hardly schools that have the medical laboratory technician program let alone technologist and out of curiosity, would it be better to have a BS in Chemistry or Biology?
I'm not exactly sure. I guess it depends on what kind of laboratory you want to work in. I work for Red Cross National Testing laboratory. They took both degrees. Some require MT (where I am) and some require chem. degrees (mostly pharmaceutical) and don't take bio degrees.
I am a Technologist! I hate it when I"m called a technician!

The title says technologists, but this video is about technicians.

Yes it's confusing, but the basic difference between a "Technician" and "Technologist" is a BS degree and a higher salary.
Otherwise, the job descriptions between the two titles are very similar.
If anyone is crazy enough to go into this field, you might as well go for Lab Technologist.
