  • Is Meggie crying in despair over her failing marriage or the fact she will never have a future with Ralph due to his vocation?

  • Why did Ralph wait until after she got married to get her into bed? It triples his sin big time?!

  • I wonder if RC hurt hurt Rachel's mouth, It's like he was trying to chew her mouth off kissing her so rough. When he stops to look at her, I wonder if the character wonder if he is hurting his lover. Obviously she having a good time. Priest knows how to rock the bed!!

  • While making love to Meggie, Ralph was thinking, damn I am really going to pay for breaking my vow of chasity! But damn it I'm on a beautiful island, with the woman I love and I'm finally getting laid!!!!! Yippeee!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Did the priest bribe the driver to state that Ralph was Luke? I think Meggie was thinking of making her marriage work, even though Luke was a jerk half the time. She and Ralph did commit a lot of sins, she was married and he was a priest. His feelings for her too strong to resist.

  • Love her dress at 1:42

  • just like it says in the movie box: Love, Unattainable. Forbidden, Forever. but still the passion displayed in this scene is breath-taking. like Ralph says when he has to leave her again his punishment for this would be that forever he would never know if he loved God more than her... so sad :'(

  • I know what it like to chase after a man i can never have. Heartbreaking when u love him so much!

  • My favorite romance movies of all time.

  • I rewound the beach scene over and over and over again. I had taped it on VHS all those years ago. Now I want to get it on DVD:

  • I like Meggy's british accent :)

  • and may i add that ralph was totally selfish and dispicable if you ask me. Wee Meggie never had a chance!

  • "Help me get FREE of this!"

so much more meaning behind this

  • @maureenmo1 You're very romantic, lol! You 're just like Maggy, dreaming of a man,you have dreamt of a married man, lol!!Did he kiss you like in the miniseries, lol?I would have liked to be rachel ward for one day just for a hug and kiss in the arms of Richard chamberlain.Yes he definitely was gorgeous!

  • Don't know how many times I've watched this scene, countless, but it never fails to sink my heart, The passion, the want and need for each other, the result - a perfect son. Colleen McCullough wrote a classic (please read the book too)

  • she's beautiful

  • unexampled movie really..mummy advised me to watch it and i was shocked.love can be so undying, forever and i looked enviously.it is THE BEST from all love stories.man wants fall in love watching this movie

  • the best movie i have ever saw!! i also love the actors and the music. absolutely fantastic!!

  • OMG, I love, how ralph runs after maggie, grabs her and kisses her passionately.. Even 27yrs later that still a HOT scene..

    GO Ralph!! get your woman...lol

  • Forget about the actors and contemplate the STORY. Meggie tried to shield her heart from the unbearable pain she knew was coming, but to no avail. There is no shelter for any heart which loves so much. She was doomed from the start.

    I know.

  • "Help me get FREE of this!" I'm already swooning. Yes, I know he's gay, but what a fantastic acting job. Now that I myself am in my mid-50s, I can REALLY empathize with the character Mary (brilliantly played by the STILL-beautiful Barbara Stanwyck back then) in her passion for the DDG Richard Chamberlin!

  • Rachel Ward was so beautiful. I was in high school when this movie debuted on tv. I don't know a girl that didn't want to look like her that year. My girlfriends and I all tried to do our hair like her's. :)

  • A love unsatisfiable...

I love this scene so mutch It's so dramatical!!!!! The whole film ist so agitating!

I like his voice, but specially in 5:43...when he say: "Forgive me!"

  • Bonita canción. I am afraid that Father Ralph didn t follow either his God or his love, he just followed his ambition, that is the truth. En el libro puede apreciarse claramente.

  • Kick butt scene.

  • Ooohhh the beach scene. I was a little girl. Didnt know what they were doing. But I was fascinated...... ;-)

  • This movie was wonderful and moving. I don't care if Richard Chamberlain was or is gay. He gave a magnificent performance and that is what made this movie a big hit. I've watched it time and again and I still am in awe of the great acting of all the cast, especially Barbara Stanwyck. I believe she died shortly after this movie. The beach scene was my favorite!!

  • Richard looks great as usual!!!

  • WOW! Gay, huh? Ya could've fooled me. Just give me one night with this gorgeous man!! Love him, love the book, love the movie. Happy Birthday father Ralph deBricassart!

  • too much thorns for only one rose...i always loved this movie

  • I hate the part where he dies in the end! I cried like a baby!!!

  • @AshYumHab i know!

  • @giniethesinger

i just keep asking myself... WHY? AND WHY THE HELL DID SHE NEVER TELL HIM ABOUT THEIR SON???!!!??

  • The scene where she just walks by herself and you can see her hurting and crying... So much emotion.. It gets to me every time.

  • Wow such a strong scene "Father please let me get free of this" - His Faith on one side and his Love on the other!

  • They're always gay. Christopher Plummer, Wentworth Miller too. What will us women do? I don't wanna know the gay part. Let me keep the dream alive here people. No offense to gay people reading this post.

  • @jocelynmuch christopher plummer isnt gay..hes be married 3 times and has been with his 3rd wife elaine since 1982!!!!

  • I've loved Richard Chamberlain and his films ever since I saw Dr Kildare all those years ago .

It's a pity that he's gay ,(what a waste ) ! but he's still the best looking man on the planet !

As someone else said "A few days on that island with Richard would be enough for me for the rest of my life " !

  • When Ralph grabs Meggie on the beach, it gets to me every time.

  • Is he intending to sleep with her when he comes to the beach? This is the first time in the film that he's wearing civilian clothing without it being work clothes

  • @Cybele1986

I never read the book, but those who have state he planned to sleep on her couch. He brought a suitcase. What does he mean by forgive me? I think he was planning to have sex.

  • @cherrypop1771 In the book, when he shows up she thinks its because he has finally decided to be with her. He quickly realizes that by coming there he gave her the wrong impression because, like you said, his real reason for coming had been to just see her. He is saying "forgive me" for giving her the wrong idea. But then as she gets angry and starts to run away he loses himself and they end up in bed anyway.

  • @Caitlin232323

Thanks for clearing that up. But why did he lie to the guy and say he was her husband , or at least correct him? Did he think meggie would reject him if the guy stated your friend Father Ralph is here.

  • This is my favorite movie and fave part..I saw this movie when I was 14 and fell in LOVE with Richard Chamberlain!! This movie rocks aways and will always be a classic. I finally got the movie about a year ago, and still watch it over and over!

  • Maravilhoso!!! Mas como essa Meg sofre!! MEu Deus!!

  • i so wish they would remake this movie w/current actors. it's like my favorite book ever. one of my favorites anyway.

  • no way...they were perfect in the roles and I can't think of anyone that I would want in them

  • Fantasticna serija!

  • Amazing scene. Maggie and Ralph are so hot togheter!

    He should have married her!

  • The book is so much better.

  • One of the most beautiful love scenes I ever seen...

  • never happens to me when I go to the beach.....this sucks! ;-))))

  • @italoluder Neither to me.It never happened to me,lol! No man ever ran after me on the beach like this.Oh damn it!!!lol!!

  • He's still gorgeous. His being gay doesn't change that.

  • @issyvoo2 omg ikr ..when i found out, i couldnt believe it but that doesnt change the fact that he's freaking gorgeous and probably the most beautiful male actor ive ever seen..hahah lolololol

  • how stupid a thing to say...he is not any less handsome because he is gay, Richard Chamberline was drop dead gorgeous--gay or not.

  • Ok i will say it another way. You are right being gay does not make him any less handsome. It does however make him less appealing to me. Just my personal thing.

  • I know what you mean. As a young girl I loved him in The Slipper and the Rose, to me he was my handsome prince. Years later I was watching The Thorn Birds with my mother and this scene came on and she mentioned Richard's sexual preferences. All my fantasies went down the drain. I was 13.

  • Does anyone know where on Kaua'i (what beach) this beautiful scene was filmed? Thanks!

  • The best scene in the film in many ways, but I always think to the prayer for the cincture, "Praecinge me Domine, cingulo puritatis, et extingue in lumbis meis humorem limbidinis, ut maneat in me virtus continentiae et casitatis"

  • If you ask me, Ralph had to love Meggie: in this way he would have been close to God's desires

  • "Help me get free of this..." (0:24)

That line is so full of double meaning...

    Great story!

  • I am reading the book at the moment . It's an amazing story, but sad. I think R.C priests should be allow to marry - if they want.

  • It's the story of my life....crying for a man I can never have

  • i agree crying over a man you can never have! me feel same.

  • it's the story of my life too. i know how it is

  • Mensch!

Ich wette, du bist so sensibel und romantisch wie ich.

  • its the best scene!!!

  • When my dad brought this movie home i thought that it was going too be this 8 hour long suck-fest but it turned out to be one of the best mini-series/movie of all time. its so addicting!=) like a soap opera. when one part ended you wanted to watch the next. its in my top five. its a better love story than Romeo and Juliet. everytime i see this scene it makes me wish i had a love like that=p

  • The same for me too! I only reluctantly started to watch it and now I'm like, a huge fan.. too bad the guy who plays Ralph is gay in real life.. what a bummer

  • When I lived in Boston (famous for its hunkalicious guys, and where I lived when I saw this for the first time) we had a saying: "All the good guys are either married or gay." ;)

  • The best melancholic and romantic theme of newest times...

Rachmaninoff would be proud of him (Mancini)

  • OMG - this is THE BEST part of the whole movie !! You feel the longing, the pain of them wanting each other forever and thinking they'll never have each other. Then they finally do on the island, knowing that what they had on that island will never happen again. GOD - did I cry through this scene !!!

  • @cherDJ hell to the yeah i was literally jumping outta my seat when i saw this, thinking finally! their moment of passion has finallly come and i was mesmerized by this scene just as much as you were..boy am i a sucker for a passionate love story.....i freaking love this movie miniseries thing and i cant wait to read the book by colleen mccollough..you shouuld too

  • I've utterly LOVED this since I was a little girl - thank you. In fact, it kind of helped me with relationships. Why? Well, I watched this with a former beau and when he wasn't enraptured by it, I knew he wasn't "the one", lol!

  • GREAT TECHNiQUE!!! I love it.. :) LOL

  • He's prettier than she is, lol.

  • you're joking, I hope

    she's a goddess

  • Rachel ward ended up marrying Bryan Brown the guy who played her husband on this show

  • I had no idea he was gay, what a waste of a real man

  • I'll bet his partner doesn't think so.

  • Yup, Richard Chamberlain is as bent as a nine bob note, sweetheart. Sorry.

Like John Barrowman (mmmm...), it matters not. Did you think you were likely to meet him and live happily ever after? Keep your dreams... they're fun. :)

  • But, dreams are only fun when you can imagine them to be true.

  • Oh dear, poor you! Mine are impossible but I still enjoy them ;)

And when I'm an old lady drooling into my plastic beker of cheap orange drink, I'll STILL enjoy them.

  • Well, i'm glad you are able to enjoy an impossible dream. More power to you then. ;)

  • she was beautiful but now

  • beautiful

i always get teary eyed when watching this

  • Richard Chamberlain was indeed gorgeous, and clearly passionate and sensuous, too. He must have been around 50 when he made this, and still looking damn fine.

Yes, he's gay but, just like with John Barrowman: so what?

  • yah like rock hudson too lol XD they can make gay men look so dang straight great actors they are for real

beside who said gay cant "reacted" towards women kekeke

  • Maybe gay men make good actors because they are more in touch with emotions and can read (and copy?) facial expressions better. Experiments prove that (most) straight men simply cannot read even half as many different emotions on the face as women can. (so don't blame them, they really can't help it!)

Then again, we have straight men who can be pretty damn camp and also very sensitive, e.g. Anthony Head to name but half a dozen.

  • There are plenty of sensitive straight men out there. ;)

  • Stephen Fry and others have pointed out that people are always asking straight men actors "Gosh, what was it like kissing a man?" but they never ask purely gay ones "However did you bring yourself to kiss a woman?"

I'm a straight woman. I did years of teenage youth theatre then trained at Drama School and I've kissed lots of guys on stage who didn't interest me or turn me on at all. Kissing a woman was no different than kissing a bloke I completely did not and could not fancy.

  • One of the most erotic scenes ever shown!

  • This is one of my favorite movies of all-time. And this scene is one of my favs! Absolutely love it! Thanks for posting it!

  • This brings back a lot memories! and I still can't believe Richard Chamberlain is gay. Debbie- thanks for posting

  • this was the most awesome miniseries! every episode had me in tears..and oh my god,the ending......

  • I should have been a little more specific. Could somebody please post the scene where Meggie and baby Justine go to confront Luke one last time before she returns home to Drogetta? Thanks again for this beautiful scene. :)

  • I remember just lying down on the ground and crying over a guy like that, but it was a LONG, LONG time ago! ;)

  • Me too, mrsmagloo. And it was also longer ago than I'd care to admit.

I thought I'd never get up again.

  • Rachel Ward was so HOT! If I was a priest she wouldn't have had to ask twice to quit!!

  • I love that moment when Ralf kiss Megy... Pięnky film :)))

  • Thanks for posting this. I just love this scene.

  • I still always melt when I watch this.....

  • i have this video on betamax, VHS , VCD and now DVD. it's really a must have!! i love richard! it doesn't matter if he's gay, he's got this amazing aura on screen that you can't help but admire him ! :)

  • WHEW!! That Richard Chamberlain is a dish! ; ) I love the Matlock Island scene, so beautiful. Love it when "Ralph" strides through the sand towards "Meggie". *sigh*

  • the house was not built for the movie. It was there..however it did get destroyed in a fire. What a shame.

  • Rachel Ward was spectacular.

  • Drogheda is filmed in the Simi Valley in California.

The beach scences were filmed on Kee Beach Kauai. The sugar cane scenes and the house that Ann and Luddie live in also is on Kauai as is the town where Meggie has her honeymoon. I've been to all the locations! They are tagged on a map when you go there.

  • THE BEACH SCENE IS KEE BEACH ON KAUAI. I'VE BEEN THERE TWICE. I LOOKED FOR THAT HOUSE THAT RACHEL STAYED IN ABOVE THE BEACH. It's not there. I wonder if they built it only for the Thorn Birds and then had to take it down immediately.

CHECK OUT at 6:04 minutes. Rachel has a BIG strand of her in her mouth as Richard kisses her. You can see it better on TV. I'm surprised they didn't redo that part since that hair is BIG!

  • This was not filmed in Ca. But Kauai Hawaii,

    North Shore, Kee Beach...

  • its a seen in a mini series

  • And where, exactly, do you get the idea that he's being raped?? Who is the agressor in this... !

Typical male religious opinion: everything is always women's fault.

When a catholic priest gets a woman pregnant, he is moved to another parish and gets to start afresh, while she is left holding the baby and having evil minded, twisted men like you judge and condemn her.

  • @queenastilon

Believe me Ralph is not being raped! That is a trip where she pulls him on the sand though. RC stated rolling around in the sand is ucomfortable, but it looks good on film.

  • Let me guess ... you're Catholic! I think it's a beautiful depiction of love between a man and a woman. Here's something to ponder: my husband and I are LEGALLY MARRIED, but since he and I were both divorced when we met, we had to BOTH get annulments, then now have to go to a course on marriage in order to be "LEGALLY MARRIED IN THE EYES OF GOD" in the Catholic Church.

  • Oh, fer cryin' out loud. I hope you're joking! Isn't Christ supposed to be the only one who has the right to judge anybody? ;) I've never once cheated on my husband. I love and respect his Catholic faith but find it strange that they cannot accept our previous marriage in MY church as binding.

  • How dare you mock Christ by defilihg the Holy Sacrament of Marriage with your FILTHY LUST!!!

  • Here's something that'll upset you even more: Richard Chamberlin is GAY.

  • Hammersley1967 what is your problem all of a sudden. Can you not understand something about this scene? You know what, say all you want to about this beautiful scene. Subsequently, I am not married but, whether you like it or not this movie is still a TV miniseries. So, there!

  • Awesome scene! The big pay off that we all waited for this amazing mini-series.

I'd love to know where in Malibu this was filmed!

  • Yeah, the kissing is a bit to fast. But the rest is well done.

  • Ok, people will probably hate me for this, but it seems to me in this scene that he looks a bit of a sloppy kisser. In the other kissign scenes I think it is much better! Here he looks in a bit of a rush!

  • Its supposed to be a DESPERATE KISS, silly.

    I know, I've been there.

  • Sigh .... so have I .... but it's been WAAAAY over 20 years ago. However, I am very happily married now.

  • I just LOVE this scene! how could meggie evr doubt that he loves her.

  • Hey guys, the Beach Scene took place in Malibu, CA., which would also be used to re-create Africa for Roots which were done by the same Production Co. It was the harrowing scene where Kunta Kinte gets captured, and his father Omoro realizes he's "gone" forever.

  • @laminage

I didn't know that. My gosh before you know it, ROOTS will be 40 and the Thorn Birds will be 30. I'm getting old. Levar seems like a nice guy too. I use to like Reading Rainbow. Just caught the DH clip where Richard starred as Lynette's gay stepdad. I scene was cute.

  • I simply LOVE this scene!! And Richard Chamberlain too...

    *.*

  • I love this mini-series!!!

  • "HELP ME GET FREE OF THIS!"

Dunno why but that part always cracked me up as a kid XD.

  • She took his virginity :)

  • Where Sadness & Happiness meet.

  • Still one of the best mini series of all time. Thanks for posting this!

  • do you have the scene where fee tells ralph that maggie had married? love his face when he hears that painful words...

  • and she married him in real life and have 3 kids :)...and a dog or 2

  • Actually, in real life she didn't marry Richard Chamberlain. Richard Chamberlain is gay. Rachel married Bryan Brown, who plays her husband Luke O'Neill in the mini-series. They met while filming it. I absolutely LOVE this show and as far as I'm concerned it's the best mini-series ever made!! :o)

  • When you love the rose you must also respect the thorn.... *_*

  • I had a complete and total addiction to this show when I was a teenager. I think I watched it a million times and had it memorized!!!! I can still quote it 20 years later. I even did a school report comparing the original novel to the tv miniseries.

  • They are young and beautiful, he is a good actor and she is a good actress, the music is fantastic ... all it's perfect.

The beach scene is very romantic.

I was 8 years old when I looked this series for the first time. It's a piece of my life.

  • i love this myself where can it be bought

  • You can find the miniseries either by going to Ebay. Check it out! Hope this helps. :)

  • I just bought this series on DVD and it's still one of the best series i've ever seen! LOVE IT!

  • I think everyone at one time or another can identify what Meggie & Ralph were going through. To love somebody and not being able to have them.

  • ayy que linda seriee es la mas romantica el mejor capituloo EL REENCUENTROO ajajaja

  • Hands-down, the most ROMANTIC scene ever! SIGH! I haven't experience passion like this since, well, too long. And considering Chamberlain was (is) gay, and hadn't come out yet, this must have taken some REAL acting on his part! What a waste of such a gorgeous man. Ditto Anderson Cooper!

  • I think he enjoyed the thing, actually.

  • @sondano

In an interview, he did mention he enjoyed kissing Rachel. There was a big age difference, 23 years I think. If he was hetero, and she did not fall for Bryan, maybe they could have dated if he was into older men. I read she was uncomfortable doing love scenes. She was a newbie back then, i'm sure RC helped her to relax during filming. He seems like a nice guy.

  • @cherrypop1771

I meant if Rachel was into older men.

  • Priest are ordained not castrated!

  • @greedygretch

True . Both they and nuns are only human. They should be allowed to date and marry. Orthodox Christians can marry i believe.

  • is it me or does everybody not even see the priest in part of him?

  • hi where can i find the the movie to either watch online or download??? please please please......

  • eMule

  • You can find this movie by going to either Ebay or Amazon. Hope this helps. Kudos my friend. :)

  • ralf is cool

  • Oh, this movie are so beautiful!

Where I can found this movie to download?

The Thorn Birds are part of my life!

  • thanks for posting this! this is my favorite movie!!!!

  • That´s the best movie ever seen!!!

Father Ralph de Bricassart doesn´t love just her body or something like that.He loves her just on the way she is and he like to speak with her and laughing with her. That´s why I like this film so much I watching it all day!!!!!!!

  • It was *only* a mini-series, never a single movie.

  • i love this show its about true love

  • thanks! for posting this clip

  • Preciosa escena. Quizás la mejor de la serie junto con la muerte de Ralph.

  • The little beach house it was filmed at was destroyed by Hurricane Iniki in 1992.

When I saw mini series I became obsessed with the beach it was filmed at. The first time I was there I kept thinking "I'm at Meggie and Ralph's beach" and I felt in a sense like a voyeur. It's stupid because it's a very public beach.

  • Thank you for posting Thornbirds stuff, it's wonderful. I adore the book and series. I remember once when I was about 15 I was ill at home and my mum took the day off to spend with me and we cuddled up on the bed and watched Thornbirds from start to finish in that one day. I will always remember that. And this is one of my favourite parts...

  • Damned Ralph and Meggie are so much pretier than Chamberlain and Ward

  • LOL, I've loved this movie ever since I was 8. I remember the beach scene was my mom's favorite part of the movie, and she would play it over and over XD. Then she'd yell at me to leave the room when they started kissing XD.

Now that I'm over 17, I am able to appreciate the hotness of this scene XD

  • Love never ends...I love you.
