And during the night it's freezing and during the day it's warm and sunny snow melts. Unless there is another avalanche and there was none after that. However some guys do not show a beard after 50 days now that's strange.

@sithuygn07 They're all from the very warm country of Uruguay and for most (if not all) of them, this was their first ever encounter with snow. The chances that anyone knew hold to build anything structurally sound out of snow is slim. They were much better off in the fuselage... If they had been in an igloo when the avalanche hit then none of them probably wouldn't have survived.

@sheesabidi They wore sunglasses/goggles because snowblindness was a real threat. In real life, Fito Strauch made goggles for them all out of bits of the planes sun visor. Zerbino had serious problems with his eyes after the search for the tail. They wore them out of necessity, not to look cool.

The book doesn't exactly say how he died (maybe cause they honestly didn't know), but it was a combination of his leg going septic and his revulsion for eating raw human flesh.
