  • You should take this idea to Shark Tank!! I can see Cuban buying into it and making you a lot of money!!

  • @FashionLover211 Once again, americans changing an already good show - Dragons Den = which sounds ten times better

  • *too much waste. Just used the water "bags" in Miami, much easier and no air being swallowed!

  • Too much was

  • Excellent idea.

  • I don't see it ever happening in a large event (10,000+) for two reasons. 1. It's going to take a lot of time for the volunteers to place these lids on each and every cup and 2. You won't be able to stack the cups on top of each other as they always do in the larger events. Nice idea though, and maybe could work in a local 5k type of event.

  • genius! i never get water during my races cus its impossible to drink. but this would b awesome

  • awesome great concept idea and very usable!!

  • love the design would be very beneficial and useful to runners

  • I've never ran a marathon but I have always wondered about how the runners could drink from the cups provided. This product seems to hit all the major points of a great invention. I think there is also a possible market for the lid at fast food restaurant drive-thrus as this lid looks more stable then the current straw and lid.

  • It's a great product! I see many advantages to using this lid in marathons as it will streamline the drinking experience for runners. I hope you are able to mass-produce your product soon and that Marathon directors will see how the product will improve the Marathon experience!

  • cool.

  • ugh

  • It's not a sippy cup. In fact it does the exact opposite of a sippy. I don't see how it can't be better than just a regular paper cup. It's simple and solves a problem. Good luck.

  • that's a really great idea. smart, cheap to produce (i'm assuming) and totally innovative. I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a company to support you!

  • The only way this will fly is if you get the RDs to use them. Having been one for 10 years I can tell you that drinks and cups are typically provided gratis by the sports drink industry. So you need to sell them to the providers. Good luck.

  • Looks like one of those old Tupperware Sippy Cup

  • It's a good idea! But how is this different from a Sippy cup lid? It could work for both runners and babies.

  • awwwww you removed all the comments that said you look like Arturo

  • This is a great idea. I hope to see it mass produced sometime in the near future!

  • Its a child's sippy cup but disposable style....Way to take an original idea and put a twist on it

  • Whoa, I have never seen a video with so many removed comments.

  • As a runner, great idea....for the race director I think it will be a hard sell. I sell technical shirts and running caps to races and work with race directors everyday. The are only looking at way to streamline their event and cut cost as they have seen a huge drop in sponsorship dollars due to the economy. That said, if enough runner demand it they will have to make it work. Good luck. I would be happy to share more thoughts with you if you reply or post something on my channel

  • You evaluated and solved a problem. God bless America. Now let's make these lids standard.

  • Wade - great product. I just ran my first 1/2 marathon and one of the very annoying things about it was that I got more water all over me, than in my mouth. It was very frustrating. This is an excellent idea and something that will enhance the racing experience for any racer or director looking to put on a high class race. I hope your product picks up momentum and people see the benefit it will provide. I like the video too! I can tell my friend, "hey - I ran with that guy once!" Bryan L.

  • This product is like the upside-down ketchup bottle. Why has it not already been invented 100 years ago?

  • Post this on kickstarter and you will get more investors.

  • this is brilliant

  • I've never run a marathon but this product looks like it'll become really popular. Wish I had money to invest in this product like other people have been saying.

  • I think it's a great idea...I don't run marathons personally, but I have seen a few and have witnessed the issues you addressed. Good luck!

  • The best ideas are the simple ones! good job!

  • If you require an artist to design your product packaging I am a low cost alternative. I think your idea will go far. I like how it is stackable for boxing and shipping. This may revolutionize even regular lid all together, you can even add a straw like with any cup, I would rather see this than the lids on Mcdonalds type cups.

  • This is a great idea! I used to run lots of races, but have been out of it for a number of years. I'm 60 now and I'm going to start running races again if I can drink from a cup with a lid like this!

  • this is a great idea

  • It's a great idea if you can get race directors to adopt it. Best bet is probably to go after smaller events. If enough runners see them in races and like them they will demand them of RDs. Obviously there are some logistical issue to work out for RDs but these challenges are minor. From a guy that struggles with losing tremendous time at water stops, I would LOVE to see these.

  • This is a great idea. I too get frustrated with those darn cups and the water spilling out. Re hydration is important! I'd love to see this at one of my next local races.

  • Awesome! Love the idea! Good luck and don't give up!

  • very cool

  • Wow... This is actually really smart!

  • Great Idea

  • I love this idea! My only concern would be mess and difficulty during clean up. As you toss it aside, lid would need to mostly stay on. Otherwise you are asking race volunteers to do twice the clean up. And with the lid being clear, it might be difficult to see which might mean a lot of missed pick up at the venue.

  • This is a great idea! Don't give up on it.

  • I am an experienced runner and have experienced a lot of spillage at the water stations during most races. Even though I do not drink all of the water they give out (to limit the amt of fluid splashing around in my stomach while running), the sippy cup would help me control what I drink. I would love to use this product. Although the only problem I see arising is that it may take the volunteers more time to assemble, therefore the race events would need more volunteers.

  • GREAT IDEA!!!!

  • If I was a runner, I would buy it and use it :D

  • Thats cool

  • So I never ran a marathon, at least not so far. But I think its a great idea.

  • It is a very good idea and I really hope it goes I to mass production. If its recyclable then that is a good idea. I font run but I like your product. Best of wishes.

  • Your product is awesome. (+3)

  • i truthfully hope your invention becomes common place

  • How do you stack the cups?

  • @jaskulma6 i guess you stack the lids and the cups apart

  • @LowryderKid I like the idea. I would think selling it to the consumer would be better than trying to get the vendor to buy it. They are setting up 200 cups at a time and then putting cardboard down. then adding another 200 cups on top of that. They have the same thing for soda cans. That plus people discard the water cups and it is a disaster already. Adding that lid would be just more trash.

  • Get these out there!

  • very cool! :)

  • Won't it fly out, when you pinch the cup?

  • @blasel33 He's saying you don't have to pinch the cup anymore with the lid.

  • @11past2 What I meant is, that when you grab the cup while running and being exhausted you might pinch the cup accidentally when you grab it.

  • that is very smart !

  • Wow, this is one of those products where I'm like, "Why the hell didn't *I* think of this?!?!" Why wasn't this thought of sooner? I can't wait to use it!

  • Dude, that is an awesome invention!

  • very nice concept

  • Great simple invention!

  • this looks very useful. I would back it 110%. this does not only help out runners but would be a cool idea for kids in the car or out playing. big thumbs up and I think thy will like it too. best of luck to.

  • I would like to invest

  • @cross496 - If enough people agree with you, and would also like to invest, we will submit this product concept to Kickstarter. Anyone that would like to invest a little money to help get this product to market faster, click on the "thumbs up" icon and vote for this comment.

  • @CSInnovations

    I think it's a good idea

  • That looks totally useful! Why wouldn't someone want that if it's going to help the people running the marathon? Kudos for thinking of such a great product!

  • EVERYBODY TWEET THIS VIDEO TO SHAYCARL!!

  • Looks awesome!

  • Have you ever volunteered at a marathon? Have you considered how the addition of this lid would fit into the volunteers' process? As a frequent volunteer, this looks like a huge PITA. As a runner, this looks like a slight improvement over "the pinch"

  • Good idea, but I don't think big marathons will spend the time to put them on every cup. It would just take too long.

  • I think it's an awesome idea. It would definitely work if you had them on the cups already when people handed them to the runners.

  • that seems like a really great idea!

  • not a bad idea. it's like a cross between a slurpee (7/11) lid and a sippy cup and seems convenient and cheap. i'm not a runner but i seems like a good idea to me

  • 15 marathons?? That's 388 more miles than I've run in my life!

  • good luck! i think it is a good concept. hope you make millions!

  • It’s a really good idea. I just would like to recommend you to think about the material you are going to use (just in case) because it is key aspect to develop the product. I’m not against plastic; still I think it is important to reduce the amount of waste we produce because for a sustainable society to work we have not only to recycle but to reuse and reduce waste. Recycling costs energy. Is it recyclable? Is it reusable?

Thank you. Good luck and greetings from a fellow engineer.

  • love it.

great idea, great concept, i want some for my own.

Only thoughts would be feasibility with costs (i.e. would the (opportunity) cost for race organizers be less than the convenience for runners).

also, strength of plastic. i know at aid stations, pre-made drinks are typically stacked with boards inbetween. just wondering if they would be strong enough to hold weight stacked.

scale of 1-100, its a 100. no joke. awesome.

  • i just bring a syringe of water with me while i run and inject it straight into my neck.

  • Wow this is actually pretty cool. It's very simple, which is good. But its very effective. Maybe you could even market them for fast food places so a parent can just throw one on top of a cup they get from there (for their kids). Cool idea.

  • Great idea and it is different from other sippy cup lids...clear, wider opening, I would have loved it if restaurants had these for my kids when they were little. McDonals? hmmm

  • Are they made out of biodegradable materials? Biodegradable corn plastics are cheap and easy to come by, you should definitely look into it.

  • Simple. Practical. Awesome.

  • genius!

  • So this is essentially a sippy cup for grown ups? I'm surprised someone didn't come up with this sooner. It's like those no spill cups people use for liquor. Simple but effective.

  • It kinda looks like a sippy cup lid! I love it!

  • Great concept, I think its great, don't listen to the negative people, they will always find something wrong with something new

  • I think this is a very good idea!

It's very efficient and only takes a couple of seconds for the person who is handing you the drink to put the lid on.

  • Shark Tank

  • 1. I don't like that it's disposable. The last thing we need is more plastic going to the landfill, which is precisely what will happen with this, even if it is recyclable (let's be serious - when they are cleaning up the cups, they will NOT take the lids off of each).

    2. You would have to convince the organizers of a marathon to use these lids, or you would need to have someone set up to meet you at drink stops to put the lid on for you beforehand. Both of these tasks are arduous and annoying.

  • @o0Theresa0o I do agree with you on the fact that it being disposable is not the best thing, but do you really think placing this small plastic lid on a cup is arduous? Come on.

I am POSITIVE the person who is handing you the cup can spare 4 seconds to place a plastic lid on a paper cup.

  • @nyrangersfm It's not putting the lid on that is problematic. It's getting someone to go to each drink station, be there & wait there for you, get passed the organizers, get a cup, put the lid on & hand you the drink. Some marathon organizers hand out the drinks themselves to protect the runners. Otherwise, you have to get the organizers to do it for everyone, which for some marathons, is several thousand people, aka several thousand cups. It's good in theory, bad in practice IMO.

  • @o0Theresa0o but how could you have something that's not disposable? They could make one that isn't but who would wash them? I understand the problem with more garbage but I don't see a way of getting around it in situations like marathons where so many people are participating.

  • @TheSweetDream Perhaps come up with a biodegradable version. If it's only for one time use, there should be a material that can be used that will quickly disintegrate but last long enough for its purpose.

  • @o0Theresa0o that would probably not be worth the cost.

  • get shaycarl involved like other comments have said. im sure he has the hook ups cuz he represents and promotes a lot of stuff as well

  • Awesome! I don't run marathons but I do run 5ks all the time and I find it so hard to drink the water while you run. This is a GREAT idea!!!

  • great idea, I don't run marathons but I do run quite a bit at the gym and this concept makes a lot of sense.

  • This looks awesome!

  • That sounds really neat. I don't run races but I see that you are passionate about that sort of thing. Great idea

  • What about installing a baffle like in a car's gas tank. those are specifically designed to reduce sloshing and I could see that being useful here. Probably needs to be more of a reusable lid for it to work though, or it hangs from the bottom of the disposable lid so when you place the lid on the disposable cup it drops into the cup first.

  • Shay needs to get the word out to his 1 million+ followers! I tweeted him your link

  • I'm not a runner, but this sounds pretty clever.

  • i love the idea, its simple yet brilliant. btw you sir genius look very much alike a certain sublime youtuber;)

  • this is an awesome idea!

  • brilliant!

  • This is a great idea!

  • that's actually a really good idea. good luck!

  • This is what a camelback is for!

  • Great idea!

  • this seems like a very great product!

  • it's a cool and definitely a realistic idea !

  • im not even a marathoner and i want to use this

  • this is actually a nice idea

  • Great Idea!

  • you should go on the show Shark

  • this sounds like a great idea!

  • Awesome Idea.... I never accept drinks while im running a race bc of the hastle

  • Good idea. If you can keep the cost down you will do great. Shaycarl is a good option, he is a great promoter and people love him. Plus he lost a ton of weight and runs a lot so he will be easy to connect with. Good luck

  • I'm not much of a runner, but this really seems like a great idea! All the liquid that is spilled without a lid is a total waste, so this seems very good.

  • As a runner, I think this would be a necessity for races. It's a great idea, for races, not training of course.

  • SHAYCARL NEEDS TO SEE THIS LIKE RIGHT NOW! :)

  • @AshleyHedge did you tweet him the link???

  • this is genius!

  • very clever. if I ever go run a marathon, i would love to drink from one of those as I probably need all the water i can get!

  • very innovative!!!

  • one of shay's new years resolution is to run 4 marathons, this could really help!!!!!

  • Great idea, great design! As a more minor detail, it would also help the volunteers to stay dry! (speaking from experience with the traditional style) ^_^

  • Genius, great design

  • Yeah go for it! This is a really good idea!

  • Good Idea, I have always noticed how stupid it looks when watching marathons, all that water going everywhere, I wondered why no one found a better way but here it is.

  • great concept

  • Love this idea! I have run 20+ 5ks in my life and in just about everyone i have had water go up my nose and it sucks! This idea is awesome! Hope it checks on quick

  • thats awesome

  • i think it is a great idea!

  • very innovative

  • Nice

  • Sippy cup for adults :) cool idea!

  • AWESOME!

  • are they supposed to be disposable or reusable?

  • @piapolkadot2 - This specific version intended for marathoners is designed as a "disposable" cup lid.

  • Great idea! I dont know why nobody else has done this or why they're not in races yet. Hopefully yours is the first to be mass produced and put in races worldwide!

  • its a great idea! however, i would say it would be perfect for marathon events but for daily running use a water bottle is best. so if you havent thought already, target the people who oversee the marathon event operations. every competitor would appreciate this addition. my last concern which is a how does the plastic affect the environment. again, great idea and you have my support

  • Awesome idea. Has no effect on my life WHATSOEVER but, good for you!

  • as innovative and handy as it is. it just seems like a waste of plastic, even though it's recyclable.

  • I like it

  • Very cool! I think this is a great idea!

  • By the way, I really like this idea! I especially like how it's not vacuumed but still controllable to drink from.

  • We should try and get Shay Butler to promote this for you. He has a lot of viewers and he is very into running, as well as hoping to run some marathons this year. He really helped Arturo out, anyway.

  • it´s cool. You should consult with your fellow runners. That´s your target.

  • I think it's a great concept! The funny part is, it really is just a "sippy cup" for adults but still, brilliant to bring that idea into marathons! Wish you success!

  • the only thing I can think of is the fact that you have to put the lid on the cup and with the big races 10,0000 plus people it might be hard to do so.

  • This is a great Idea, I shall share with all my runner friends!

  • cooooolllio!

  • Not that Shay Carl ever pays attention to my tweets - but I tweeted this to him hoping he'll somehow see it and look at your invention and maybe help promote it - kinda cool for runners! Yeah!

  • I think its a great idea!! Cheap to make and still easy to clean up and recycle! Great idea!

  • pretty cool!

  • seems great!!!

  • The greatest minds are able to take problems with a simple approach and simple solution... Well Done! :)

  • Great idea. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

  • i agree, shay needs to see this!

  • brilliant!

  • it seems very good ^^

  • You should post this on KickStarter

  • I think it's a good idea. :)

  • Someone get Shay to see this

  • I'm not a runner, but this just looks good and makes sense.

  • How soon do you anticipate getting some of these produced. I know a race director here in AZ starting a new half marathon (to be a full marathon next year) and they may be willing to test these out. The race is March 3rd.

  • awesome!

  • Sorry, but this is just a giant 'sippy cup'. How can you get a patent when it is just a larger version of an already existing product? Do a google image search for 'sippy cup'.

  • @ccgsales I think the "sippy cup" part is obvious in the design, but he's not marketing the cup as a whole, nor the "don't spill" design. What he's marketing is a disposable lid that can be used for marathons at drink stations, not something the runner carries the whole time. Think about the function of a lid on paper coffee cups.

  • @WhoIsCarla I fully understood that it was a lid... it's just that it looks *exactly* like the lid of a sippy cup. I don't see any way around getting a unique patent for this design... maybe some derivative if the original sippy cup design, but as an original patent, I don't think so.

  • love it !!! :D yeah Shaycarl must see this !
