@playerdepimp No. It's a case of physics. In order to have an effect of a magnitude large enough to break apart the Moon, you would need to have at least 180 Billion 30-Megaton devices. The only objects large enough to have that kind of effect are extra-planetary bodies such as Asteroids, and an equivalent would be an Asteroid of at least 200 by 200 by 200 Kilometres.
One, or even ten 30 Megaton devices used for subterranean excavations wouldn't even make a dent.
I wonder why it is that some people think anything to do with the Moon or space in general has to do explicitly with NASA? In this movie it's never even said that NASA was involved. All that we, the audience, are told is that colonies are being built there.
Why would it be NASA? Almost every artificial disaster in the world is done by reckless corporations.
