  • I think I agree with you...give that muffler the boot, seems like it stole ur high rpm. Mine shuts off at 102MPH.

  • 4 speed auto or 6 speed? I see the 3 2 1 part on the dash and if GM was stupid enough to put that 4 speed auto in what could be a sweet little truck.

  • There is a possibility that your 0-60 is slower because of the freeflowing exhaust, bottom end power comes from back pressure.

  • tune time! they choke the hell out of these trucks with torque management and shitty ign timing, prob so they cant outrun the silverados. youve got a good platform, dont let the 2.8 guys talk shit!

  • All I can say is get a DiabloSport Predator or Trinity and you'll be alot faster. I come from a chevy town, but not many colorado's running about, and all the 5.3's run Predator's to be fast. My '05 reg cab stepside 2wd with 3.23 rear end would fly with one, it hit like 118 before shifting into 3rd. Admittably it was kinda slow post 100mph, but still.

  • Why shifting so early? I understand this is the stock programming but mind you that these engines can easily handle 6200 rpm. Have it programmed and u will notice a big difference....especially after shifting; the next gear will kick in into a higher power range.

  • I need to upload the videos after the tune.. I got 2 Up I think ... One when the road was damp and another on a freshly paved road... But then it pretty much stock.. but no sir ... It has no problem laying the needle down past 110  XD .... I also have a wet kit that's not currently hooked Up .. (im at engine 2 at only 130 something thousand miles ) dyno vids will be Up soon too ... So check my page in the next few weeks

  • I got an 04 2.8 with a 5 speed.. with 342 gears .. cold air intake .. Jtr headers to a custom 2.5 in exhaust .. no cats to a cherry bomb dumped behind the front tire .. LSD rearend and pcms 4 less tune and mine would stay with this no prob if not spank.it ... Kinda dissatisfied with this here ..

  • @601Jcoop420 you my be faster of the line but you truck probably wont top a 100mph... and there is no replacement for displacment. just wait till i dyno tune it. and get some work done.

    its funny that you say you have headers when an in line motor would only have one header and when the in line comes with 175 hp at the flywheel that means you would top with those mods you mentioned maybe 280 hp

    the 5.3 comes stock with 315

  • dude i got a dam 2.8 4 banger of this truck and that didnt seem much faster. Somthing must be wrong because i use it for cleaning pools and it has a good 500 pounds in the back and still this v8 doesnt beat it by much. i would figure with about double the motor it would go twice as fast but correct me if iam wrong?

  • Torque management kills!!! Get more bolt-ons and a TUNE!!! My truck accelerates much faster than this even though I still have an 08 3.7L

  • not a surprise you think its slower.. stock exhausts often cause a scavenging effect, which causes back pressure ( in a good way ) and it actually causes the pistons to be forced back down fasterand pushed up faster, makeing the motor spin faster. loss of pressure will cause loss in power in most na systems unless you can force enough fuel and air into it with a high compression to compensate. do a headerand intake and no exhaust mods for a better effect.

  • Good if it was a Silverado but for a Colorado not impressive, actually disappointing, 300HP should burn the tires in this truck. Nice V8 sound though.

    Thats a 09 for you. there detuning them from the factory to make better gas mileage. Anyone agree?

  • Never knew there was an option for a V8 in that truck; that's what they needed in the S-10, which was a way better looking truck.

  • That's badass! I didn't know they came with V8's. We have the 4 banger fleet ones at work for deliveries and they are pretty comfy, and not too bad at getting around.

  • to be honest it is possible that the muffler might have made it slower...with a more free-flowing muffler, there is less back pressure in the exhaust system, which means less low end torque, more high end horsepower. so it may, in the long run, feel slower, but its probably not at all

  • thats true but to me i feel that it didn't do anything to the low end but the high end feels slower. i will just have to get a full kit from SLP or somthing you have any ideas

  • hmmmm...if it were me i would get a full exhaust system. headers, high flow cats, and then keep the muffler you got. but in addition, do a K&N CAI, or Airaid, and then buy a tuner. Hypertech or Superchips, or whichever you find best. That truck will be pretty badass once you get all that done!! :D

    this one might be...there are 3 optional ratios for the V8 models...3.42, 3.73, and then 4.10

  • if you plan on throwing a twin screw ontop of that vortec you're in for a world of headaches man. you're lookin at 4-5K plus labor and then a custom or dyno tune.. NOT HANDHELDS..

    if you want to make good power.. start with basic bolt ons.

    LONG TUBE headers.

    Camshaft and springs/lifters.

    stall converters are always nice

    those 5.3's respond well to a cam swap

    just some ideas to get you started bro.

    just do a drop in filter that isn't made from paper.. hypertech and superchips are crap

    get a dyno tune or mail order tune. it will be the best bang for the buck out of the three.. 80-90% torque management removal.. something those little handhelds can't do.

  • Sounds awesome, but not as fast as I was expecting. Honestly doesn't seem any faster or stronger than the I5. I counted 0-60 in like 7-8sec. My Mom's I5 Canyon does it that fast. Watch my vid. Something musta been wrong here.

  • you say that and it scares me at 669 miles my engine blew GM made falty valves for my truck well it got fixed right away but ever since then i feel that my engine will never have its top performence alltho GM says that there is no way that is possible.

  • yikes dude. Did you neutral drop that form like 2000 rpm? I think the truck will respont to a dead start better by being in gear,a nd not shock loading the whole driveline. as a matter of fact, the way the computer works, your best launch is gonna be going from the brake to the gas, not left footing it at all.....

    Wow good observation Ray Charles, but I can clearly see the truck was in gear the entire video. There was no neutral dropping involved in this video, just a little loading up of the torque converter.

  • deffintly didnt do a neutral drop thats stupid what i did was hold the brake left footing idonno why but that gives me the bast take off with no engine hesitation and if i do it the way you said it will hasitate from the electronic throttle then it will just brake my hind tires loose and i sit and spin if you notice the tires still spun i tweek in this take off.. just wach the tcs light on the dash.

  • Why the engine temperature is so high in ur truck?? Mine goes to the first quarter but mine is 3.5l and because u have e bigger engine the temp i higher

  • I have the 2.9 mine hovers around half almost all the time. That's about the norm I think.

  • @jjhurlburt it's called brake torqing, makes it so you have instant torque rather than starting with no tq and waiting for it to kick in

  • has anybody heard of the APEXi AX75 Middle Single Turbo? i dont really trust universal aftermarket parts but its hella hard to find a turbo or supercharger for a colorado and im startin to wonder bout givin this a try but im kinda nervous...

  • the 5.3 seems to have no lower end power what so ever, until you get up around 3,000 rpm then it will do pretty good

  • Thats really slow for a "sport truck" They need to get a chip or somthing that gets rid of all the torque management.

    V6 Tacoma is faster.

  • Hemi Rams are fast, but not that fast. Maybe they were thinking of the SRT10. v10 8.4>Hemi.

  • And given the V10 srt10 probably couldn't get to 60 that quick due to the weight and traction issues. Now If the HEMI Ram had considerable suspension/traction mods and about 500hp/tq or so, then maybe... lol

  • Basically. Either way they are both nice. I wouldn't say no to a Hemi Ram, and I'm a pretty hardcore Chevy guy. It's just hard to make a truck that fast... I mean, we all know what the v10 does in a Viper...

  • fuck magnaflow and flowmaster theyre bullshit compared to aeroturbine trust me man i know from experience ive put an at2540i duals on my girls 05 altima 3.5se and she went from 0to60 of 6.2 to 0to60 in 5.8 directly after install and its a lil faster now without the resonator and my 04 hemi ram went from straight pipes and a superchip 0to60 in 5.5 seconds to at3030 true duals 0to60 in 4.8 seconds so jus think bout it and lemme know theres a vid on here with a colorado v8 aeroturbined too

  • The engine might be factory stock, but he has an aftermarket Magnaflow muffler that is supposed to increase performance. So, no, it is not 100% stock.

  • yea its not slow but not fast eather a tune would help alot and there is so much that can be done with this engine. when i get more money in my pocket im getting a vortec twin screw supercharger for it that will put the truck at 450 hp then if i tune it right and get better exsualt and stuff your looking at 500 hp. that would be sick

  • dude..try to find some tuning for your engine.

    It's big and strong but guverned to get 300 hp..

    you can get at least 380 by programing the engine, cold air intake, throttle spacer and full exhost system.

  • yea its like high 7's slower then i'd like but the engine has lots of room for improvement unlike the 5 cylinders
