  • do you use a drying solution or do you wait the time for the paint to cure before the next layer?

  • @freefeeling Really good video.............Loved it ! Atleast some people have sense of how to make videos..............

  • Is beautiful, really expressive. It captured my attention over other videos.

    Congratulations, great work.

  • beautiful and what is the song?

  • @razor360i Twist in my sobriety by Tinita Tikaram

  • @razor360i The song name is "Twist in my sobriety" by Tanita tikaram................Really amazing song ! Good choice Razor

  • could you please list the colors you used in each layer? amazing

  • Beautiful....thankyou for sharing..........x

  • Way to go Ben!

  • Really nice and sensitiv Video. Thanks for sharing it. ^^

  • stupendo, veramente espressivo, insegna e trasmette molto allo stesso tempo.//// complimenti e grazie per averlo postato

  • i better encourage Art more than criticize, Art for the artist is about the joy and expressing through the journey, real artist doesn't paint to sell or to empress, its personal satisfaction, just let it go and paintttttt . LOVE IT

  • @EnasRashwan real artists don't paint to sell? Yeah, all those guys trying to make an honest living with their art aren't really artists. and it's important to criticize, otherwise some of the greatest names would never exist.

  • @EnasRashwan Bullshit!

  • Has she been beaten by her husband or something? Is she crying? On the contrary, her face's expression is serene!

  • thats better than where I'm at. I just painted a portrait that looks like a photo, nothing special. You can't even really see the strokes. Thanks for the video, it helps . I will add it to my plethora of brain thoughts and create something better now everytime I paint. Some people like my paintings but right now I don't.

  • love it

  • Thank you Ben for this very sensitive journey with this young woman. Sometimes I don't give a rat's ass how technical and exacting the painting is. Often times I mostly enjoy the artists trip. Thanks for sharing. Extremely sensitive and moving piece!

  • errors in anatomy, that term shouldnt really apply to paintings, it is not an important quality.

  • errors in anatomy, is not really a good criticism,

  • Wow this was great . . . how did you decide what color to use for the first 2 layers? and did you let each layer dry a little befor starting on the next . She has a beautiful blue tone. I love It

  • Interesting color choices. Layer 2, if you had continued with it, looked like a Matisse.

  • I like the fact that it looks like someone's trying to stick a foot into her mouth. Gives some character to the painting.

  • An idea: cold have kept the colors as in the middle of layer 2 (oranges, reds, yellows and blues), it was beautiful combination, and use a free kind of drawing.

  • I loved the colors at the end .. so lovely but ... is the hand size looks bigger or you ment it to be that way? what it means if so?

  • WELCOME...visit GPABSKY.com website for the ARTIST. ty!

  • It is amazing the many ways one can approach art. this process is completely different than how I paint. good job!

  • who cares if the anatomy is wrong!! Maybe she has a gimpy hand like that dude on Scary Movie 2 "My germs!!!" lol. It looks good to me and the music track is killah.

  • i love it and it's a masterpiece, love the expression on her face, the colors and the music you used as well..hope to see more of your painting and thanks for sharing..

  • that really is horrible to me. but thanks for the video.

  • Great portrait in atmosphere and technique showing lightness and beauty of local detail. A painter's painter!

  • What a great master piece! I love the emotion shown on the face.

What a nice music to go along!

Only wish there were brush strokes in motion at faster speed (compressed frames).

  • There are a few errors in anatomy such as the hand but the rest is good. I think it's interesting how you layered the colors, such as the warm red and light blue. The end result is a beautiful portrait. I like i. :-)

  • this is fantastic to me, what you have done makes it real

  • Good Demo for step by step portriat.

  • Nice step by step approach to portriat good demo.

  • The music is lovely.

  • Like the background music than the painting.

  • There's a lot of issues with the symmetry... her eyes are uneven, the nose and mouth are crooked... The jaw and ears are cooked and the finger look more like a pig toe in proportion to the others.

  • hey, nice

  • love the colours

  • lovely work :)

  • Hi Ben, thanx for the video! Can you help me understand how to chose the colors for the underpainting? Thank you!

  • You are great, paint some more!

  • An old favorite I like to watch from time to time. Nice work.

  • <<-- austinartwar just placed a tutorial on eyes painted on black canvas. Very awesome results less time. Subscribe to my channel or rated video please. Thanks

  • i like most all parts of the painting, at all points, just towards the end it looks more and more like the eyes are fairly small and are sort of floating on the face.

  • I think the artist is right handed.

  • Eyes are a little small though

  • its very interesting just at the second layer

  • looks like the girl from Good Will Hunting sort of

  • check out more Art Instruction videos 3kickstudio

  • Nice painting...

  • do you allow each layer to dry completely?

  • it looks like she has two shinners

  • thanks for sharing

  • me gusta ;)

  • mainly good but some proportions were a bit out

  • how do you know?

  • she has small eyes.

  • i love it 5*****

  • Excellent painting.

  • Incredibly work. Just wonderful!

  • fantastic, i hope people appreciate what you do where ever you are... you are honestly a very good painter

  • Nice, thanks for the ideas...love the depth and texture...so smooth...

  • shes got pink eye!

  • who cares.

  • @ageovlove1 that’s true who cares :)

  • Respond to this video...

  • Good work dude! More? Love to the world ;-)

  • Good song choice !!

  • Errors in anatomy

  • @OWL1471 or shes just very retarded :D

  • It's art, not anatomy...

  • @macpubs If you know nothing about anatomy, it reflects in your art. Go to any art school or institute or art show and they will hit you with a newspaper until you get your anatomy right. You didn't see the masters painting incorrectly when they simulated realism, did you? And when they did do it 'incorrectly', say, Picasso, they had full knowledge over anatomy and then looked into a different dimension of expressing depth with a flat drawing.

  • @macpubs you have to have knowledge about anatomy to express your art . so: anatomy is art.

  • @OWL1471 is that what you say when you look at a picasso ?

  • @djamorpheus it would be different if the artists was going for an obvious emotional distortion, but he's not. it's clear he's going for a realistic style. it's just light criticism, and i'm sure the artist would LOVE to hear it.

  • @OWL1471 what

  • @OWL1471 baby she was born that way

  • @OWL1471

Looks as though it might be a purposeful distortion. Stylization, if you will.

Not all good art is realism or hyper realism.

  • @OWL1471 Is it really necessary to say that? Don't be a jerk.

  • alot of layers, its oil man, now watercolor heh.

  • Haha ik dacht al dat je uit een ander land kwam (''I make it a long time ago'') :P Heel erg mooi, ik hoop in de toekomst ook zo ver te komen, top!

  • I love the hair!!!!

    GREAT JOB!!!!

  • Fantastico!!

  • Awesome work dear :)

  • Beautiful portrait..Enjoyed video and music (though it portrayed a sad sensation)

  • Tanita Tikaram - Twist in My Sobriety ...Great Song ...Great Video Thanks!

  • excelente trabajo..entre luminoso y vivo devido al uso desde el comienzo,y durante el resto del proceso al manchando con el carmesi..le da mucha vivacidad y una luz especial..feflicidades al artista y gracias x compartir..salud

  • bellissimo

  • This is a great painting!

I'm still trying to learn oil techniques, and this has given me some tips for a portrait I plan on working on.

Only one critique, IMO, the eyes were a little too small. However, I didn't see the model (or photo) you were copying, so I can't really say whether it was accurate or not. Besides that, I love it!

  • lovely work !

anyone who is thinking of taking up oil painting may also find the book "Oil Painting for Dummies" useful. it teaches what you need to know about oil paints, solvents, and pigments; brushes, palettes, and painting surfaces; and how to keep costs down at the art supply store

    selfservingbooks (.) com/dummies/Oil+Painting+for+Dummies/2149

    [replace (.) with .]

  • Excellent work, seeing the evolution from one layer to the nex really showed, in my opinion, how much of a long process it is to oil paint. Great job!!!

  • Those who can; do,

Those who cannot; apparently make shitty comments.

Thank you for sharing, it was interesting watching your technique.

  • what is the name of the song?

  • I really thought this video was amazing. The music, the art. Capturing a moment. I did not, however, feel it necessary for comments to be added with so little respect for the artist as to use foul language. Wonderful art, wonderful music, very captivating.

  • Beautiful!! Could you please tell me what colors you used for the face and more importantly the shadows for the eyes and nose areas. I see you used a shade of blue, but was it Ultramarine blue, Colbalt? And then what did you blend on top of it, or with it, to get those great shadows... Raw Sienna, white, red???

  • Fantastico y sublime proceso

  • that's fucking awesome and the red eyes and the song speaks volumes to anyone who is battling addiction 5 stars for your honesty and insights

  • eyes look off, but neat layering build.

  • nice painting but looks like a tedious way to paint too many layers. why not paint on opaque payers instead.

  • holds up longer

  • the eyes aren't too red, dick. the eyes are the way the artist wants them. and the way someone artistic likes them, unlike you are.

  • nice..but I think that her eyes are to red..

  • that danlevm dude is a fucking asshole

    this is really amazing

i just starting using oils today and this really helps guide me :))

    thankyou very much

  • calm down mr artist lets see your shit homie....

  • I wish I had a girl to love to paint her. Despite the post drunk song is nauseating.

  • omg this is cool nice

  • complimenti, un lavoro bellissimo

    mario

  • this is a very sensitive and intruiging work, I really like the way the colour is layered. Its gorgeous!

  • Did you sort the hand out?

It looks like she's got her foot in her mouth.

  • agree

  • that looks out of proportion

  • Beautiful picture!!!!!5*****

  • I Do agree with mari!

  • whats better acrylic or oil?

  • both are good, but oil is more archival.

  • sorry bro, what do u mean more archival?

  • Oils are easier to use as it dries slower which makes them easier to use and when they dry up they can be pretty shiny but acrylics dry up faster which makes painting faster and you can always use some kind of varnish. It is pretty much a personal decision depending on how long it takes you to paint and the feel you get from the paint itself but altogether I choose acrylics cause they are much less messy although I do think oil paint can look more pro in figurative paintings.

  • I think he means the art will last for more time. I've seen people questioning that, though. Someone told me that early acrylic paint was crappier, but current ones are more resistant. If someone out there can enlighten us please do.

  • Yeah, it really depends on what type of painting you'd like to do. Personally, I lean more towards impressionistic work, so I use acrylics. They don't blend together so much since they dry fast. If I try to use oils, my paintings come out looking too "muddy" because I have a tendency to overwork them.

  • lovely portrait

watching this one quietly, without sound, is particularly beautiful

    thanks

  • Bravo!!!

  • Nice work. I added it to my favorites.
