Time has told me there will never again be a heart and soul like Nick Drake. He is a once in a lifetime talent and wrote this anthem for giving up on lost causes.Once you quit worrying about things then everything you worry about loses it's power over you.
I've read all the comments, and there's not one mention of Richard Thompson, the man responsible for the sublime electric guitar accompaniment, an absolutely perfect counterpoint to Nick's acoustic guitar and vocals. Just wouldn't have the same magic without it.
I've known Nick Drake after that my dad let me listen to the album "Pink Moon"... I'm 15, I'm Italian and I can say that THIS is music. Rest in Peace, Nick =)
@72875821 They're just not ready yet, but be glad you are. I heard this when I was younger and only just stumbled upon it again recently, I guess I had a little living to do before the songs had some meaning.
wow what a beautiful song, the best way to end the day with a glass of wine and my lovely kids playing on the beach. absolutely amazing and cant get enough of it i just love it so much. thanks for reading my comment and happy new year. and thank you nick drake for your creative lyrics and sweet melody, just thank you.
Though I don't understand what would motivate a person to dislike something (so good), I appreciate the need for negativity to counterbalance positivity. I guess we can't have a world without it. That said, why the hell would you dislike this??
why do i feel like there aren't many musicians left who are full of sentiment, loneliness and an intimate honest feel to them???? you guys listening to this should check out this album, something tells me you'd connect with it..... indie singer/songwriter Renee Goust: youtube[DOT]com/playlist?list= PL6D8C834C2494A3C
@x15tence I accidentally discovered Nick Drake (and many, many others) through iTunes. For all those people, myself included, that don't have record stores or great music stores period, iTunes is the best way to expand one's musical horizons just by clicking around.
@AntonioSaucedo22 Certainly... I personally 'found' him typing schizoid on Google, being diagnosed as such and, oh boy, ain't I enjoying his artistic output.
All songwriters must wish, as I do, that they could write just ONE song with a bit of "Drakeness" in it - it's almost like he was from a different dimension
LOVE NICK DRAKE....what a rare find this was indeed. I can listen to his music over and over and the more I listen the more I love it. it reminds me of someone I love. </3 troubled cure for a troubled mind </3
this is salve for a troubled mind. time has told me that time heals . the pain that you felt is what we all have felt. rest in peace Nick. God Bless You.
My favourite song in the world. Had heard this over the years but never knew whothe artist was until a month or 2 ago I bought 'the lakehouse' on DVD and low and behold found out the details I needed :) so theres plenty of ways to discover new music not just by visiting a music store. As it happens his track Black Eyed Dog is on 'Practical Magic' OST - another Sandra Bullock film, and one of my favourites! I love Nick's music and I love that its like a secret :)
@LUCKYSEVEN7100 me too. happy happy. there are still a thousand artists that have been and gone to yet discover. here is a glorious example. thank you nick drake!
@heartsburstintofire5 Actually, he was quite a recluse and refused to play in front of people. I doubt if he would find much care in whether people listened to his music or not. His art was self-therapy.
@AlintaLaLoba Still don't get why people make such a fucking fuss over PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET disliking youtube videos. Like, who cares if some random ass person doesn't like Nick Drake? I would be totally impervious if 8,000,000 people dissed this tune and I was the only one who liked it. In fact I might like it even more.
some can thank the internet for finding talent...others grew up with it, surrounded by it, having inspiring music with them at all times. I can obviously declare i am the latter, however, i am also chuffed that people have an escape from the crap that is fed to us from the money grabbers and the fame seekers, and come and listen to some real music at their listening leisure.
2001, browsing in the local record shop going through the 5 for £20 cds I picked up this album having selected 4 I actually wanted. The fact that people no longer do this makes me want to cry, these accidental discoveries just won't happen via itunes :(
@x15tence they will on YouTube, how do you think I found Nick Drake, and Jackson C. Frank, and so many other great little known artists. I am truly thankful for the internet, with that a person can have access to so much great art.
@PopCultureSucks Sure but, i dunno, something about handing over money makes me really listen whereas, when it's free. it tends to fade into the background.
@x15tence I finally got over "that". But my problem and most others is when someone wants you to listen to something you haven't heard yet. They want you to love it as much, but same as when your mother told you to eat your veggies, you resist and hate it. Self discovery is a big part of whether you will like something or not. Another, I think is, hearing it a few times. Finally, time and place and the circumstances under which you heard or experienced it. Buying it for yourself does help. ..;>)
@x15tence The days of buying an album that is awful except for one song you heard on the radio are over, & thankfully so. I'm very grateful for youtube & iTunes samples. I don't buy it unless I like it now, & if I like it, I definitely buy it. The RIAA needs to see that people still pay for music; only now the music that people pay for is more likely to be what that they like. It's not like they care enough to have ever offered a "satisfaction guarantee or your money cheerfully refunded"!
@x15tence I sympathize. I walked into a record store back in 1991 in NYC and "accidentally" overheard the "Loveless" album being played in the background (by My Bloody Valentine - a far cry from Nick Drake, for sure). I never would have bought that album (and it hardly got air play then) - and fell in love with the music (today it's considered a landmark shoegaze album). Same with Nick Drake but the discovery was completely due to YouTube and my curiosity and openness.
@x15tence They can happen via the internet though. I only found out about Nick Drake by looking at a wikipedia anniversary page to see who had died on that day.
@x15tence never been in a local record shop, and still I find the must unknown weirdest but most beautiful music all the time. I'm sure I would never find 95% of the music I listen to in a record shop. For all you know, your favourite artist might be just one click away.
@ridderopaard You know, I think you're right on this one. Over the last year on the Tube, I have found so much new good music just by venturing into the selections on the right, that I never would have encountered otherwise. That goes for talented amateur performances too, which would never get as far as a record shop!
@x15tence IDK, that's kind of how it happened for me. I was doing a Google Image search for something .. can't remember .. and ran across a promo piece for a Nick Drake concert (it was a spoof, but I can't find it now). I read about him but didn't listen to his music. Last week, I ran across him again, this time during a search for songs about abandonment and took the time to listen. I will be listening for the rest of my days. The format is different, but happy accidents still occur. :)
And God please give us back Nick Drake...we will give you any of the crappy "artists" that are out there today...any of them take your pick...just please give us back this beautiful give to life
I love Nick Drake's music. The other day I was watching a rerun of "My Name is Earl," and heard this song playing in the background. Recognized Drake's voice immediately. Too bad he didn't hang around longer.
I wonder how time could have told him. He was a young person when he had written this, and also a young person when he died. I love his music, it's so relaxing, beautiful, sometimes a bit depressive, but after all, I love it. R.I.P. Nick Drake, may you reïncarnate and make more stuff for us.
