@inventorgal oh alright. well I am thinking of getting some digilegs. but I was also considering getting some powerisers for the ability to run and jump. do you think I should go with digilegs for the more realistic look; or should I go with powerisers for the realistic movement. also where can I get the digilegs and are they hard to stand up in?
@VikingAxStudios Depends on your costume which you should go for. The leg extensions will give you the correct profile the powerisers will give you performance. My co-inventors are making legs though Area51 in the UK, those are the only sets available.
I would love to have a pair. Personally (Matter of taste right here) I'd rather the ankle be a bit lower to the ground and the foot to be a little shorter so it doesn't make you as tall, or as obvious but is still noticeable in the way you stand and walk.. Basically so that it is in line with human proportions a bit more.
Regrettably my leg extensions are in stasis, but my co-inventors are going ahead with their own design. Their leg extensions are being made by a company called Area 51 in the UK. This company just put up a web page this week announcing their own version. It is good to see that they have overcome the enormous difficulties in bringing any such invention to the market. Bravo, my hats off to them!
The legs are about 5 lbs a leg. They are made of plastic, velcro, steel, steel cable, and a few dozen bolts and bushings. My co-inventors in the states are about to release their own version this year.
My co-inventor's version is not on the market yet.. They are making them through Area 51 in the UK. There has not been a public announcement yet, but you can contact Area 51 through rich@a51uk.com
I think that these would be cool with the kangaroo spring on the back along with three front tarsals or toes infront to make it seem a little more alien. Also, that way the back portion of the "stilt" acts as a spring so that you can run or jump too.
The Powerizers do that with a carbonfiber spring on the back. It won't work with this design because we wanted them to be close fitting so they would fit under a costume
I want to make a satyr costume for my local Renaissance fair, and I would LOVE to have a pair of these for it! But everywhere I check for your stilts doesn't have any information for ordering them like the price and whatnot. All I found out was there is a two month wait for production. What price range are these going for?
@pruedence110588 I believe that the company Area 51 in the UK is going to produce them and they hope to be doing so fairly soon. If you email them directly they will know more.
I just wanna say these ROCK. I'm so glad someone came up with a functional, comfortable and durable design for digi legs! I totally intend to buy some if area 51 has a decent price. great work!! (I intend to use them to make a completely terrifying undead dragon costume....I can hear the children screaming already)
lol, do all the neighborhood dogs act like that when they see your legs? I want them just to keep the stray dogs from bothering me, lol.
These are neat and I am thinking of dressing like an original character of mine that have digigrade(I just learned that word today!) and would love something like that... but I need some that are cat like. I have no idea how to make them... and can't shell out a lot of money. Any tips?
The original versions could handle up to 300 lbs. My co-inventors are making an improved version through Area 51 in the UK. You would have to ask them what the new weight limits are. They can be contacted at legs@a51uk.com. The public announcement has not been made so you will not be able to find it on their website yet.

Does extending your leg cause them to articulate at the ankle? Those wires make it look like they would, but that would mean you are holding them in place just with your upper leg, isn't that ridiculously tiring? If somehow they are, would it be possible to crouch in them?
Strangely enough, the cable is the one thing that allows the whole mechanism to work. We were determined to have the ankle joint move to look natural. All of the weight is transferred to the feet, not the thigh, unless you are walking uphill. The legs are 7 lbs each so they do have weight of their own. Yes, you can crouch in them, but only if you are holding onto something.
Would it be possible to drill out some of the plastic to make it slightly lighter? Would that compromise the integrity? I know it wouldn't remove that much weight, but I would think it would help improve airflow, helping to keep the legs cool. Could you make a video showing how the foot design works? I know about the Underworld videos, but I'm interested in maybe trying to figure out how to make the feet move more realistically (read more complex.) Great videos, thanks.
The weight in the plastic is pretty minimal and the contact to the skin is very small. We have never had heat problems even in full costume on the legs. We are still improving the foot design even now to get them more realistic. We hope by early March to have a truly beautiful set with a subtler movement.
The hoof is spring loaded and adjusts to the terrain. Going up hill shifts the forces to the top of the thigh instantly and you have to accommodate for that.
Darn, I really wish I had those legs. They're so well built and seem to have very good support to help you stand and walk for long periods of time. Incredible how you made these...
I want to see running too, but I don't think it is possible or easy. Running would require some kind of spring to absorb the impact, store some of it and give it back for forward momentum.
Things are looking really good. The legs are now really, really strong and a lot easier to make. We have refined the design and are now hoping for a beginning of the year release. I will post something here as soon as they are available!
The leg extensions are just the core mechanism without any costumes on top. I do know a lot of costumers who can build the hooves/paws/fur for people, heck, they can even do aliens and armor too.
I want a pair of these so bad! I am so excited for you to get them in production!!! If you need help finding resources please let me know, I am an excellent assistant. (Work for an actor and internet queen)
i really shouldn't spend money on something like this but once i see something i want i usually do what ever it takes to get it and this looks like something i need to get.
Nah, she's obviously a Sangheili. Or at least, she would be... if she had four fingered hands, reptilian eyes, a longer neck, mandibles, and rough blue, grey, or brown reptilian skin. Hehe
I would love a set of these so much, though I would likely need to build a set of custom trousers for them as the bare steel look wouldnt go well with the rest of the suit hehe X3 time to start saving :3
These are very comfortable to wear. I can stand easily in them for 6+ hours. (I have never gone more than that) We are trying to make them really comfortable for actors and stunt people who may have to be in them for 12+ hours a day.
Check out the "making of" video with the movie "Underworld" This is what originally inspired us. They have lovely video of their construction which is wonderful and detailed.
Not easily. I personally can't, but my friend Pasha can. I have to have a chair handy or help from a friend. This is not so bad, because there will always be people around to assist at conventions and Ren fairs.
What materials are you considering making these out of when you begin marketing them? Have you considered offering aircraft grade aluminum to people who wish to own a more sturdy pair at an increase in price?
Anyway, these are awesome and I'd consider buying a pair should they become readily available and affordable.
We are looking into stainless steel presently. Aircraft aluminum is very difficult to machine and bend. We will certainly be considering custom work, especially when it comes to the construction of the entire costume.
Yes, but I can tell you, it is going to take a long time to get them right. It took us three years to get them to be comfortable, lightweight, and safe. Fortunetely, it was a lot of fun to do the design work and kept us happily busy the whole time.
Tell you what, sign up at Kimgrahamstudios and I will write you when they are available. We are seeing if a new production method can bring the price down in the next two months
Just saw a version of these made much earlier by an amazing guy Gregorca who worked on the Babe films, StarWars and Farscape.
well worth a look and his seem to be even more impressive with their proportions.
watch?v=-Apt5AEsHaE
The guy who wore them also wore an animatronic head and finger extensions and they were apparently comfortable enough to wear non-stop for a whole week of filming.!
How do I contact you about buying a pair haha you're going to make millions off of these if they aren't too expensive to produce. They look more natural than stilts, and they look like they can be easily hidden.
This is absolutely beyond awesome - you'd think you'd look ungainly and wobbly on such legs, but she looks so graceful. Your site says they're up for grabs for actors and such - are you planning on making them for the general public, and is there information on their general prices?
Also, am I correct in assuming that the splint-like design up to the thighs will somewhat prevent twisted ankles and broken legs that would otherwise happen due to the extreme leverage when falling?
Since your leg is sheathed in steel it would be nearly impossible to twist your ankle while in them. We have had very few falls in our efforts to find the breaking point of this design. Since this design folds at both joints It allows the wearer to control their fall better than any other stilt out there.
You seem to walk pretty naturally in them - how much do you need to concentrate on movement and how long have you trained before attaining that level of mobility?
Also, how stable is the footing when there's, shall we say, outside influence? Like for example your friendly neighbourhood paladin trying to beat you up with a LARP weapon because of you wearing a demon costume over those legs?
It takes about 15 minutes to learn to walk in them. An hour will give you remarkable confidence. The footing is quite stable and they are built for performances.
It took us three years to get the design working enough that we could begin to show it off. We are continuing to improve the design and they are now more comfortable than ever.
Thank you! We may yet move to aluminum but steel is so much easier when you are prototyping and altering the design. It can take the shock loading easier on the welded joints. Aluminum is much more finicky.
l've made a pair of digitigrade stilts a couple of years ago, but they looked too bulky after l had furred them. And l've been in the process of improving the design when l stumbled upon your videos. They have been a big help. Rather then using steel, you could lighten them using aluminum barstock instead. :)
Fantastic job on creating those leg extensions. I know that the local Science Fiction Convention (Norwescon) and Anime conventions (Sakuracon) would love to see them.
So cool! n.n How stable are they? Can you, say, run or jump in them? Have you tested them in other types of terrain, like sand or slippery environments?
Go to Kimgrahamstudios and sign in there. Right now there is a two month waiting list because we are still making them custom. Our hope is to get help making them soon.
So Amazing, I seriously see the entire population using these someday, maybe in venice after it sinks.. lol. I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR A PAIR OF THESE, although, I think I'm tall enough already.
I've definitely been interested on how they handle the terrain and how they look from all angles so this answered all my questions. They're quite adaptable, given it takes some effort to walk up slopes and such. Just how many people came over and asked what you were doing? :)
Also having seen how they were put on gives me a better idea in how it was designed and all the more reason to appreciate your hard work!
do you think you would be able to put springs in them (kinda like a poweriser) and run with them?

redips626 2 years ago
Very well made, and awesome to boot :3!
Do the hooves have to be so large though? Is that what helps keep it balanced is the large footing?
No offense made, just curious; I'm interested in making a pair of my own :3
BungleKitty 2 years ago
The hooves are large because they had the look I wanted for a particular costume. They don't *have* to be that large.

I want a pair of those!!!

Please sign up at Kimgrahamstudios and you will be contacted the moment we are in production. Promise!

Genius.
NeolightCrux 2 years ago
Is there a way I can make these myself?:X
Rakyth 2 years ago
Yes, but I can tell you, it is going to take a long time to get them right. It took us three years to get them to be comfortable, lightweight, and safe. Fortunetely, it was a lot of fun to do the design work and kept us happily busy the whole time.
inventorgal 2 years ago
I'm asking because I obviously don't have one thousand dead presidents lying around.
Rakyth 2 years ago
Tell you what, sign up at Kimgrahamstudios and I will write you when they are available. We are seeing if a new production method can bring the price down in the next two months
inventorgal 2 years ago
THose are awesome. I can see larpers using these to great effect, and theaters and .. well any use is good :D
TheOriginalEntz 2 years ago
I read your other comments on this and I have nothing to say other than, COOOOL! They are so awesome!
blackgoldfish247 2 years ago
Very clever design, how well can you jump or run in them?
Socinus 2 years ago
If you are young, you can run and jump in them but not very high or very fast. They are 7 lbs a leg and tend to slow you down.
inventorgal 2 years ago
When I'm a nutty thousandaire, I'm gonna buy a pair.
gguru1 2 years ago
Just saw a version of these made much earlier by an amazing guy Gregorca who worked on the Babe films, StarWars and Farscape.
well worth a look and his seem to be even more impressive with their proportions.
watch?v=-Apt5AEsHaE
The guy who wore them also wore an animatronic head and finger extensions and they were apparently comfortable enough to wear non-stop for a whole week of filming.!
MeanMarthur 2 years ago
How do I contact you about buying a pair haha you're going to make millions off of these if they aren't too expensive to produce. They look more natural than stilts, and they look like they can be easily hidden.
ABBflstudiomaster 2 years ago
This is absolutely beyond awesome - you'd think you'd look ungainly and wobbly on such legs, but she looks so graceful. Your site says they're up for grabs for actors and such - are you planning on making them for the general public, and is there information on their general prices?
TheDeathBunnie 2 years ago
Also, am I correct in assuming that the splint-like design up to the thighs will somewhat prevent twisted ankles and broken legs that would otherwise happen due to the extreme leverage when falling?
Teskariel 2 years ago
Since your leg is sheathed in steel it would be nearly impossible to twist your ankle while in them. We have had very few falls in our efforts to find the breaking point of this design. Since this design folds at both joints It allows the wearer to control their fall better than any other stilt out there.
inventorgal 2 years ago
You seem to walk pretty naturally in them - how much do you need to concentrate on movement and how long have you trained before attaining that level of mobility?
Also, how stable is the footing when there's, shall we say, outside influence? Like for example your friendly neighbourhood paladin trying to beat you up with a LARP weapon because of you wearing a demon costume over those legs?
Teskariel 2 years ago
It takes about 15 minutes to learn to walk in them. An hour will give you remarkable confidence. The footing is quite stable and they are built for performances.

omg real-life Draeneï !
roro21123456 2 years ago 2
Very cool! How long did it take to make these? Or did you buy them?
BlueDemonPivot 2 years ago
It took us three years to get the design working enough that we could begin to show it off. We are continuing to improve the design and they are now more comfortable than ever.
inventorgal 2 years ago
You could possibly use titanium. I'm not sure what the cost difference is between that, carbon fiber, or aluminum though.
wlindenlaub 2 years ago
Thank you! We may yet move to aluminum but steel is so much easier when you are prototyping and altering the design. It can take the shock loading easier on the welded joints. Aluminum is much more finicky.
inventorgal 2 years ago
l've made a pair of digitigrade stilts a couple of years ago, but they looked too bulky after l had furred them. And l've been in the process of improving the design when l stumbled upon your videos. They have been a big help. Rather then using steel, you could lighten them using aluminum barstock instead. :)
wlindenlaub 2 years ago
There really cool pitty there a bit prices
los34 2 years ago
I am exactly 14 inches taller. Presently the legs weigh 7 lbs each, but we are working hard to get them a lot lighter.
inventorgal 2 years ago
How much higher do you stand wearing those? They look great.

I want that (awesomme) legs for a Draeneï cosplay, there isn't a tutorial siomewhere ? :(
And, yes, that legs are really awesome, congratulation :D
IIGoliathII 2 years ago
Could someone please explain me what the purpose of these legs are?
I'm just curious :-)
RickakaFreckle 2 years ago
They are for performers and actors in Renfairs, parades, conventions and festivals. But mostly for costumers. Think world of warcraft.
inventorgal 2 years ago
To be awesome.
gguru1 2 years ago 2
how much would these cost when you start selling them
prowl001 2 years ago
They will not cost more that $780 a pair, but we will not know the final cost until we have the production down pat. I should know in about 6 weeks.
inventorgal 2 years ago
Fantastic job on creating those leg extensions. I know that the local Science Fiction Convention (Norwescon) and Anime conventions (Sakuracon) would love to see them.
Keep up the great work!!!
jkrolak 2 years ago
WOW they are awesome....I need a pair for a photo shoot. Do you rent or sell them?
itsnotatumor68 2 years ago
We will be selling them in just a short while and hope to offer them for rental soon.

ha! I love how she scares the dog there at the end!

Will it be easy enough to stand back if you fall down?
anaklelakilaut 2 years ago
No, if you fall down you will need help standing back up. It is difficult to get the leverage when you are on the ground.
inventorgal 2 years ago
Would it be possible to use a stick of some kind to push yourself up?
Teskariel 2 years ago
Not easily. Having a friend around to help seems to work really well. :)
inventorgal 2 years ago
How well do they handle side-slopes?
Cybrludite 2 years ago
About as well as the wearer does.
inventorgal 2 years ago
Wow - I'm still amazed how quick to put on these are and how easy it apparently is to move around in them.
Again, great work.
Schneelocke 2 years ago
I would love to see someone run on this!! Can you do a movie of it?
molinobeer 2 years ago
So cool! n.n How stable are they? Can you, say, run or jump in them? Have you tested them in other types of terrain, like sand or slippery environments?
CressFx 2 years ago
Just today we have had a young man run, jump, go up steep hills, do jumping jacks, and skip in them.
inventorgal 2 years ago
OMG this is so awesome.. where can i buy this ones??? =D
ymanganelli 2 years ago
Go to Kimgrahamstudios and sign in there. Right now there is a two month waiting list because we are still making them custom. Our hope is to get help making them soon.
inventorgal 2 years ago
So Amazing, I seriously see the entire population using these someday, maybe in venice after it sinks.. lol. I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR A PAIR OF THESE, although, I think I'm tall enough already.
kalanikai 2 years ago
Thank you so very much for posting this up!
5 stars & fav for you once again Kim!
CanineHybrid 2 years ago
Extremely cool. Great to see how they are put on as well as how they can handle inclines!
