  • Thanks Ryan, I appreciate your videos. I added a link in my recent blog post at doubletakingdiscoveries.areavoices. com to this video.

  • Thanks! loved it.

  • @nainhanif Anytime.

  • These are the kinds of tutorials I like! Very simple, very effective!!

  • Hey, how do you change the colors of the strokes? It comes out as black every time I uses it

  • Thank you very much! Great tutorial.

  • You could also just simply create a spiral with the Spiral Tool, then open the Stroke window on the toolbar, and the change the profile of the stroke.

  • grate

  • love this one!!! thanks for the tip!!

  • hey Ryan, How about a tutorial on how you set up your own working space environment. I noticed yours is set up completely different than mine.

  • @joshanator1 I don't usually have just one set space, but it may be worth checking out.

  • to change the path color, go to "object" from your menu bar and select "expand appearance" then select the color of your choosing, very simple:) this was diving me crazy to figure out

  • You're really awesome to share your knowledge with people. Thank you very much!

  • seriously if you were anywhere near me I would kiss you!! Thank you so much! I've never used Illustrator before always Photoshop but I think Illustrator just got a promotion! I spent all afternoon playing around and came up with some real nice stuff that I know I will use.

  • @burnkitty82 Ha, consider yourself smooched.

  • I have to post again, using it now and joining paths... something i always wanted to know. Thank you so much for this video. Definitely subbed!

  • This video is awesome for someone trying to learn illustrator and Vector art. If anyone wants to help me learn or has any vital tips on what to do in Illustrator, please message me with good tips. Thanks in advance.

  • In Illustrator CS5, you don't even have to create an artbrush for this… Draw the spiral (or any line for that matter), go to the "Stroke" panel, show options, and select a triangle profile (default is "uniform"). You can set the with of the stroke to match your intentions and once you're set, 'object::expand appearance' and you can manipulate the shape…

  • Excellent

  • what about photoshop?? how the heck can we make a good swirl in photoshop ..? please dont tell me pen tool ..

  • @SSNHstands Check out video co-pilot, he's got an AE plugin called Evolution. He's also the man.

  • you sir, are a genius.

  • I always thought these so commonly seen twirls would take a very experienced artist to do it. Thanks so much. Tutorials should all be like this. Clear and concise.

  • heloo u cave nice design

i want to ask u wat program u r using in the introduction such as AND NOW AND ANOTHER TUTORIAL

  • genuinely great tutorial my friend... very clear and concise really well done! =)

  • Starts @ 0:45

  • I love it!!!!

  • so smart! thanks!

  • Never thought it'd be that simple to make a graphic like that. Thank you, Ryan.

  • thanks for this super straight forward tutorial, I've been looking for something this simple. cheers!

  • awesome tip, thank u

  • WOW icon lol

  • Great video! Thank you

  • And also when i go to increase or decrease the amount of spiralwith my arrow keys, it seems to be really sensitive and doesnt move in increments but either makes it all spiral or none, i cant gradually move it, do you know how to fix that?

  • Question: When i make my swirls and put them ontop of each other each one seems to have a thin border of white, so wher they overlap white lines outline them and cut threw the ones beneath.

And same with my pen tool line, it has a white boarder that cuts of anything its above

  • @Mirdraal Check your color settings, i find CMYK has a tendency to create those thin lines. Also, remember, when you make your lines, you have any fill color turned off.

  • That was short, simple and...great! Thanks a lot for this tutorial!

  • Expand and select with the white arrow and then change colormode to RGB works for me in Illustrator CS2 - otherwise I am not able to change the color.

But it IS a great tutorial - now I am working with waves and I haven't yet found a method to how to finish the spiral nicely - maybe I will have to add a half cirkel in the beginning of the stroke where it is broadest...

  • Right on bro. Appreciate the time it took to help us randoms. karma +

  • I wish you had also covered how you made it look like the beginning picture as well; really useful though!

  • very helpful! thanks!

  • hi , for move the point on the line push shift+down arrow?:(

  • nice its very useful to me, i used it for my ladies shirt designs, thanks

  • wow! simple and easy! many thanks!

  • the best illustrator tutorial ever!

  • QUESTION! when i hold my mouse down and click up/down on my keyboard, i can't adjust how much spiral i have.... help me please lol

  • @jazzej88 it also depends on how big the spiral is, lets say you make a very small spiral but you cant change the amount of swirl, well you just need to keep pressing the down arrow to make it change. This tool is pretty easy to understand once you practice it a bit so just keep pressing the arrows until you notice a difference

  • Cool : )

  • wow thank you for posting this!!

  • I click the right corner and press delete but It deletes the entire thing

  • ahaha that's awesome

  • question! >.< how you change the color of the swirl :S?? or i cant? thank you! ^^

  • @FuriousSugarCube Once you expand the swirl, you can change it's color, Go to Object>Expand. Repeat if necessary

  • @QuintalDesigns have been very useful the tutorial! Thank you so much for answer my question! :D

  • Crisp and to the point. I'd follow in in a raid any day. :D

  • YEAH WOW PLAYER!!!!

  • Great tutorial! Thank you very much! Keep up good vids!

  • Bottom left of the screen man this guy plays WoW :D!!

  • @ECNATSiSERrM

lol, that was when I had free time, I'm not sure i know what that is anymore.

  • @QuintalDesigns xD yeah man same here i used to play that game rofl... I have a question - do you think this can be done with a similar concept on photoshop?

  • @QuintalDesigns Tough to say, Photoshop's tools for doing things like this are pretty different, so You'd have to investigate the filters palette to see if anything comes close to illustrators warp effects panel. Maybe make a line and liquify it?

I'd just use their en tool and download some stroke pack randomly from the internet to achieve the look if you dont have AI

  • great tutorial mate, very useful :)

    Thanks :-)
