I can't hear "Taps" without crying. As the fourth generation veteran in my family (Vietnam era), I heard this too often, but never so poignantly as at my father's funeral. As an Army brat, you are raised with this song, but I will admit I had forgotten the words to the second and third verses. So moving and so appropriate on Veteran's Day.
Why do non-military types say Happy Veteran's Day? Do they say "happy Sept 11th?" It is supposed to be a day of remembrance, not joy.
I learned this song at an early age but only remember the first verse.....very very moving....it was jsut played at my father's funeral, and I have a son and daughter in the military...Thank You!
This man should be at the next big Veterans' Holiday Celebration singing this song.
Your voice touches the very essence of one's spirit. May God bless you with many more years of singing. Friends who have heard this and not able to post a comment said you are awesome and your voice took them back down memory lane. Much love to you with a smile.
Mr. Carter's rare talent and sincere reverance echos the spirit and pride of our heros. God is near indeed. God bless America. Anyone have an extra tissue?

It gives me chills everytime I hear this song. Also knowing that someone has given their life for us. I like the way Mel sings, it's from the heart.
