  • @Radicalbass96

Whow, the Ripper fretles is a very elegand and good soundign bass; congrats for you bass, and thank you for share.

    Good luck.

  • I have seen this video over and over again and i cant get enough of the Ripper basses from Gibson or Epiphone. What pickup is it on that bass?

  • @Exessis

    Hi:

This bass is the first issue (mid nineties), and it had the stock pickup at middle positio (this model had only one pickup, in the Grabber style) , but I added other pickup at bridge position. This second pickup is an Schaller Bassbucker (on "Golden 50´s wiring).

    Cheers

  • i have small fingers and hands for the most part-brand new player. what do you suggest that i use????

  • @vambo98

    Hi:

For small fingers the 30" scale fits fine. If you like the hollowbodies the Ibanez AGB200 is a sweet bass.

If you prefer solid body, the Fender Mustang bass (now made in Japan) is a very cool and good sounding bass.

    Good luck!

  • i'm tempted to buy one of these rippers, and make a new scratch plate and put some g-3 pickups in, or ripper ones but they dont come up as often.

  • @andyg3

Good luck, friend. It will be a good project.

    Cheers.

  • where did you buy it? im looking for one, but cant find one enywhere.

    tnx!

  • i love your little head bobs lol

  • @thegm1999

Ha, ha... Thank you for commentary.

    Cheers.

  • Those pick ups sound great. I am gonna buy one of these basses and put new pickups in it, and I think I found the one!

  • @adhesivealf

Thank you for commentary and good luck with the bass and pickups.

    Cheers

  • Hello there! I see you have a Ripper bass guitar with a 3-point bridge. Can you tell me how to set it up properly?

I just got a rare and new Gibson Grabber II bass with a 3-point bridge like yours, but I do not know how to adjust it properly. I am used to Fender P-bass bridges only.

    Thank you sir.

  • Hello and congrats for your new bass.

Well, the saddles intonation adjustment is the same than Fender basses.

But the saddles do not have individual height adjustment, so you must to actue on the rear screws, up the bridge for a correct strings height over the fretboard (perhaps a little more high on the E string).

The front screw must be a little lower than the other two screws.

Try different heights and this system becomes familiar soon.

  • Thank you sir for your help.

It turns out I set up my bridge wrong. I made the front screw taller than the rear screws.

When my bass was came from the factory, the bridge was tilted forward, so it was correct. I did not know it was supposed to be like that.

  • Well, I´m happy if the info is useful for you.

    Merry Christmas.

  • witch humbucker do you use? send me link or something, I want to do the same thing to my Epiphone The ripper bass. sound like it sounds better than the PJ mics :)

  • No problem; The humbucker pickup is a Schaller Bassbucker pickup.

I will send you the link to your Youtube account (it´s not possible here).

    Cheers

  • hey there just a few quations about this bass, may I?

    - neck: it seems just as narrow as a standard jazz bass, isn't it? is it a long-scale?

    - i really like this bass, but how is it UNDER the pickguard? actually, hod did you manage to put another pickup in bridge position?

    thx anyway, great playing ;)

  • Hello, and thank you for commentary.

Yes, the neck is as narrow as Jazz Bass.

Under the pickguard, all solid wood (a very good one), so a drill was needed.

This bass is the first reissue, from mid nineties. I don´t know how is the new reissue under the pickguard, but this one is solid wood (no "swim pool").

    Cheers

  • Well, first of all, congratulations I really like the way you play. Second, I need to ask you something, Whats the big ddiference with a gibson ripper with the original humbucking pickups and the epiphone with the p.pickup and the j-pickup? im talking about sound here...

    I rather a medium-treble sound...mmhhh... Thanks!

  • Well, thank you for your kind words.

My Epi is from the first reissue, last 90´s, with only one pickup at middle postion. I added other pickup at bridge position, so my Ripper got a different pickup than the las reissue.

The original Gibson Ripper pus. were a little lame, no bright sound, so, many bassists upgraded their Rippers with Dimarzios.

The P/J configuration is very ok, versatile and playable, but no too much in the Gibson style.

    Cheers

  • Thank you very much... mmhhh... I think il give the one with the p/j cpnfiguration a try... Salud!

  • Yes, whort a try, It´s a good bass, all maple (body, neck and fingerboard) so the sound is bright and punchy.

    Good luck!

    Cordiales saludos

  • hi, just 1 question: do you know where can I get one? maybe in ebony....I can't find it anywhere!!!!

  • Ho inviato un messaggio privato

  • I think you're really in love with the epiphone basses! ;)

  • Hi:

Well, I love some models from Epi (Rivoli, Jack Casady and Ripper).

Really, I love classis basses, Fender, MusicMan, Höfner, Gibson, Rickenbacker...

I enjoy playing and restoring old instruments.

    Thank you for commentary.

  • Me too! I got a Hofner 176 Galaxie in Green-Burst! Very very nice guitar... But I also love old Framus, Univox and Danelectro guitars and basses! ;)

I'm not very interested in that new stuff which is produced today by warwick, ibanez and so on...

  • Yes! I had a lovely Welson guitar (stereo, the Golden Arrow).

The Hopf Saturn is a nice guitar too.

    Cheers

  • I love that bass guitar! its good too play on!

  • Thank you! Yes, it´s a good bass. Few solidbody basses are made entirely of maple.

    Cheers.

  • where did u get this awesome bass????

  • I got this bass back in 1998; It was made in 1997, in Korea (the first reissue version).

I bought it in a store in Valencia, Spain.

I added it the bridge pick up and the Gibson/Schaller tuners.

    Thank you for commentary

  • so wait, did the first reissue from 97 have the pj pickups originally in it too? or did they have different pickups at that time? cause the only epiphone ones ive seen only had a pj,ive never seen one with humbuckers

  • Hi:

Yes, it´s the first reissue, and it got a humbucker pickup at middle position only.

I added it other pickup at bridge.

So, this first reissue was a Grabber indeed (one humbucker pu, bolt on neck...). But the peghead is in different style, and Ripper is a more commercial name than Grabber...

    Thanks for commentary

  • is the action good? what amp where you playing through? COOL PLAYING

  • Hi:

Yes, the action is good, but I was doing some adjustments in this bass, improving the factory set.

The amp is a small Kustom KB16, a decent amp for playing at home and recording.

    Cheers

  • what pickup is that?

  • Hi:

It´s a Schaller bassbucker pickup. You can see it at the Schaller web. It can be switched in different configurations.

    Cheers.

  • COME DANCING!! I LOVE THAT SONG!

  • Yes! From a Jeff Beck record; A Wilbour Bascom bassline (Wilbour is a great, great bassist).

    Cheers!

  • Wilbour Bascom is on sountrack Hair 1979, famous funky basslines, old 1966 P-bass. Hare Chrisna is crasy bass!!! Cheers!!!

  • Yeah! He is a genius.

    Good luck, friend.

  • Ohhhhh.. very good for funky! I know this model from times, when Gene Simmons (KISS) was playing on... Cheers!

  • I like this bass...all maple. Very bright and punchy.

    Thanks!

  • what about the pickboard?

  • so i can put some good mics in it? no problem??

  • Sure! And it´s a good bass (all maple), so with good pickups it will sound great.

    Good luck.

  • what type of pickups are it on that one?

i have a Epiphone Ripper myself but i have the PJ pickups..

is it a the gibson mics on that?

  • Well, your bass is the second reissue (PJ pickups), and my bass is the first reissue (from 1997).

Just had a pickup in this bass (like the Gibson Grabber). But I added other pickup (in bridge position). So the middle position pickup is the original one (Epi), and the added one is a Schaller bassbucker, a great pickup indeed.

    Thank you for interest.

  • you have a good grove my good sir

  • Thank you very much for your kind words.

    Cheers.

  • Uhhh loco tenes muy lindos bajos.

    Felicitaciones

  • Grande tocayo!

    Muchas gracias amigo.

Saludos y la mejor de las suertes.

  • I got one earlier this year. :)

Love it. I need new pickups or something as mine has kinda shoddy wiring.

  • Hi.

Are you bass the new reissue? My bass is from middle nineties.

The Schaller 232 model (bassbucker) can be a good upgrade.

Good luck and thank you for commentary.

  • Yeah, it's the reissue.

  • I haven´t tried the new reissue (p-j pickup configuration; my Epi reissue come from nineties) but it seems good (good bridge, nut and tuners also). A good bass for some upgrades.

    Good luck with the bass.

  • I was looking everywhere for a Ripper!!

  • Hi friend.

    Good luck!

  • Nice!

  • Hi, Thank you very much friend!
