Okay, let's say that they do this. How would you design the starting podium One really long starting block? That would screw over many maps that have laps as well as the players that start at the 200th position. You can't start timing from when they cross the starting line because that would screw over the front players who wouldn't have time to accelerate.

And what if there's not 255 players? Would it be resizable? Again, you have to think of the lapping maps.

In short, it doesn't work.

It's more fun to play with people that you actualy know. You saw those 150 ppl and you probably wont see them ever again, and you dont even know what their name is. I think playing with people you go out with and sit next too in school is a lot more fun. Anyway, you are changing the subject. From torrents you get the same damn game. I downloaded Left 4 Dead also and im playing with people online just like someone who bought it. The only diffrence is that i got my copy for free.

This was on an official Trackmania server the day of release (or day after...I can't remember). Those servers are equpped to handle the 200 players. Other servers probably aren't and that's why you see people jumping all over the place.

Because Nadeo is very inteligent. The game make "disapear" some racers when to much, you can set it to 250 if you want, but your comp gonna crash, the normal is around 10 people that you can see....

Its why there is no lag.

Most games limit the amount of things you see. It's called culling. If you can't see a car because it's behind a wall or too far away, why bother spending time to render it?

And it's not a world record because the game limits the max amount of players to 250.

AFAIK, the reason for you not lagging at all on a server is that you temporarily download the track to your computer and drive it 'locally'. The server then uploads everyone elses' positions to you. So I think it's impossible to lag on TrackMania, network-wise, because of that. As for the player-limit, a really crazy computer and connection could probably handle a few hundred racers. Not sure though.

Well, I've played on another 200 person server and I have to say there was MAJOR lag. It's true there's no real lag, because the game is client-based (You don't lag, you see others lag).

Lag in TM is basically people jumping around from one position to another because the server can't handle 200 people sending and also sending out 200 cars locations.

I forgot to mention that, yeah. You don't lag on the track, but you see the others jump around. It's more fun when they don't, cause if they drive a jump and start lagging on the ramp, they keep going up. Is very fun. XD

I thought it was because of no collisions and the fact that you have the custom track when you play it (the same pieces everyone else used to make their custom track is on your comp plus most of the car textures they have). It's like you're just going against ghosts. OR like a gps system or something in which the cars are just icons telling you where the racers are... That was my hypothesis the whole time, yours makes more sense...

If you still have problems with your lag, press the "O".

You can't see any cars anymore.

if you press the button above the tab key ( § on my keyboard ) the name tags dont show, which helps overview :) if you have lag with so many cars, you can press o and it does not show the enemy cars.

Ah, well the problem wasn't that there were too many people, it was just my computer. Any game that I ran would skip every minute or so. It was some hardware I installed. I have a new computer now, so it's no problem. :P

it does handle the game pretty well although when AA comes in the fps drops so I would suggest 4x Anistropic (max of the 8600 GT) and no AA (fps drops to about 25 with 2x AA). Got a silent (passive cooled) Club 3D 8600 GT myself (will upgrade to the 4850/70 when the 4xxx series come out in july this year)

No, this is United Forever. There are 2 seperate games. Nations Forever only has Nations tracks you can play in single player. United forever has both Nations tracks as well as all the United tracks.
