@stonedfry123 Actually Dave started playing along with Steve on the "High Tension Wires" album (1990). "Stand Up" (1985) was recorded with Jerry Peek on bass. As or starters on SMB/Dave Larue I would recommend The album "Southern Steel" (1991), which contains most of the aspects tat makes Steve Morse Band so unique.
As as fledgeling bass guitarist, I look up to a lot of people. At the top of my list, on equal grounds, is Billy Sheehan and this man. And I do dream of handling a Musicman Bongo (four string model, sapphire black finish LOL) just like Dave does. :):):):):):):)
I wanna be like that, but I probably never will. Anybody who ever learns bass should at least listen to this. Even after hearing it once i swear the next time I picked up a bass I played differently
I think there is no way to compare Larue and Myung, they are amazing bass players, they are great in some different ways of music, we can't say which one is better, because anyone of them are better than the other, their style is completely different, so, instead of wasting time compare them, let's enjoy their music, that is wonderful, long live to Myung and to Larue, long live to bass and of course to good music!!!
Agree with most of the comments. Dave is so underrated, yet he is the most "complete" bass player alive, for the lack of a better word, this guy really knows how to suit the music best...in my opinion. He masters all of the bass techniques.
By the way, does anyone know if this material exists actually in any album? I have known about Dave just recently, so I would like to know more about his music. Does anyone know if this material exists in any musical release? Thanks a lot for your help.
@MrElopez55 You might be interested in picking up a Dixie Dregs cd or a Steve Morse.I would suggest Stand Up by steve morse the cd is filled with Dave and Steve at the top of their game as well as a few surprises.Good luck.I got mine from Steve in Milwaukee.AWESOME show!
@MrElopez55 Steve Morse Band, Dixie Dregs, and recently worked with Joe Satriani. Also, his best show of work is on the song "Assembly Line" with Dixie Dregs where he has a sick intro and an AMAZING solo which is at around 1 minutes 40 seconds.
Of course John Myung is a god in bass, but people need to consider the style of music the bassist is playing before comparing them to other bassists. John Myung is an amazing and innovative bass player in progressive rock/metal, while Dave Larue is more talented in terms of classic rock and funk.
not only is he bitching awesome, he has a stewie shirt.
in your face chuck norris!

John Myung? hehehe, he´s good, but there´s no way to compare him to LaRue... Myung is fast, but is too much machanical for me.
LaRue has music flowing through his veins and dominates the bass like few do.

does anyone does what song he's playing starting around 3:17?

He is great, but I like more John Myung from Dream Theater.
