I'mma tell y'all like this... As far as being loud.. Yeah.. walker dumped on da Aug. But as far as pure musicianship, fullness, & dynamics... St. Aug got it.. St.Aug is really the better band. U can't judge a band just on how loud they are. St. Aug had control over their notes & was not overblowing.. Walker was seriously over blowing. U barely heard the trumpet. 7 yes, I'm a former K grad c/o'98 "Mello Fello".. member of the 4 horsemen.. & I tell ya, Walker will neva sound like da K!!

I was actually apart of this battle...St Aug C'O 2011. OPW played jumpstart facing the opposite direction of St Aug. Both bands had a very full sound! If you like St Augs originality and unique style, then you would say St Aug won. But if you like the SU mixed with a little bit of Carver (Pre-K) style then you would saw OPW won. I personally prefer originality over imitation... You can't claim to be the best if your trying hard to be like somebody else! "Often imitated NEVER duplicated!"

This battle is a clear cut TIE! because of the formation St Aug was in "it all depended on where you were standing. The people watching the video got to hear how st aug would have sounded if they were standing in front of the drummers like the camera man did. But ive seen this very same battle from different angles where it honestly looked like St Aug SMASHED OPW. but this video says otherwise so you have to be very careful how you judge this battle

I had a front row seat to this concert. I was live St.Aug lost yall have seen the looks on those teenagers face after the battle the looked as if they wanted to get back on their bus.... I felt bad for them becuz at the beginning these lil dudes looked so juiced up about challenging walker. Then reality struck. But nobody brings up the fact St.Aug used to do the samething to other bands. Naw the shoe is on the other foot.

The only reason why it looks like Walker won this battle is because of St Augs formation and where the camera man was while st Aug was playing. Walker played SU arrangements and Carver Arrangements in most of this battle. St Aug has always been original. St Aug did shut Bacchus and Orpheus down. They were the best band overall this parade season. They just do not need to battle in parade formation anymore.

I Love this... Walker dominated in Power... I'm a die hard Kennedy Freak.. But St Aug could have easily changed the game if they were in a different formation... I Love St. Aug new sound... Now Please Set up in a battle to bring it out.. I saw the Difference in St. Aug and West Jeff Battle.. St. Aug in Battle (concert) formation and they was clean and loud as hell.. much lourder than this battle..Oh and In that West Jeff battle the upright B-Tones was bring the heat .

Truth be told both bands sound pretty good, after listening to it. You can't blame walker for having the more simple arrangements, it all depends on the song that is being played. Also this is the first time I've seen the damn marine/navy army filming a New Orleans band and watching the battle.lol. Funny ish. St. Aug has always been one of the most consistent bands in the country, but the NOPS top 5 bands would always have individuals sections that were superior to the augs.

Walker sounds good, but they're playing very simple and rudimentary songs. St. Aug is playing more complicated songs with intricate rhythms and doing it well. I give the battle to St. Aug based on the song selections.

After hearing roots of music, and sophie b. wright I have faith that we'll get back to that status though. @mellojb because uprights are for grown men. LOL!!! Just playing, but I think it has to do with the sound that fits their style. Marching B-tones have more of a blatty sound, like a darker sounding trombone, where as upright euphoniums and baritones give off a darker more oranic sound--sound like the instrument is supposed to sound. I guess a similar comparison would be fiberglass basshorns vs Tin Cans. But honestly, IDK but I personally am glad they're sticking with the uprights.
