No one is entitled to a job. What you are 'entitled' to as an American is equality of opportunity. And besides, as any economist will tell you, the job market is not a zero-sum game. There's no fixed number of jobs. The job market gets bigger, usually, and sometimes it contracts. But long-term the labor force increases.

Dobbs brought up some points I had never considered. He said pretty plainly that it's not Mexicans fault that some of them are forced to live in squalid conditions which promote diseases like Tuberculosis, and these conditions are much more persistent there than in the U.S. The obvious continuation of that is that unscreened immigrants from Mexico are more likely to be carrying these diseases when they enter America. Cenk had Dobbs on what he would do about it however, Dobbs knew it too.

Meat packing jobs used to be some of the best paying jobs in the nation. They were unionized and workers made around $30 per hour. The owners started bringing in illegals, broke up the union, and now those are some of the lowest paying jobs. People say a tomato will cost $20 if we didn't have illegals to pick them at cheap wages. Did meat cost a fortune when meat packers earned a decent wage? No. I don't blame the illegals- I blame the traitorous business owners.

20 million illegals in the past 10 years sure seems like an invasion. But even that wouldn't be that bad, except we've lost millions of good-paying manufacturing jobs to overseas outsourcing. My hometown has a meat-packing plant, and at least a 10% population of illegals. We all can understand that these people are simply trying to realize a better life, but the government should stem this tide for the good of the whole country.

that was lou dobbs' publicist. it seems like dobbs was doing separate interviews back-to-back and his publicist was concerned about the timing. i understand that it looks bad if he calls in late for another interview, so in some ways i understand the publicist. but i think it's more rude to keep butting in to the conversation than to politely say "sorry mr. dobbs is running late before the next interview." in any case, that publicist sounded WAAAY too strung out.

I just found out that the number of inmates in Federal Prisons is only 201,000. So 40% of that is only 80,000. That is only 2.7 percent of all inmates. So Lou Dobbs is being misleading.

This is the one issue that Lou Dobbs focuses on more than others, so he had a few more facts than Cenk on this. People cannot hear Lou Dobbs above the hate that seems to be coming out of his mouth. The excess labor is depressing wages, but it's secondary to the war on wages our own corporations and the Republican Party wages.

this has and always will be a complex issue. both make great points. you have to control the borders to keep illegal crossings to a minimum, but you also have to make the process of becoming a citizen much easier in respects to the whole organizational structure of it. the system as is, is obviously not expedient enough for those wishing to come to this country a better choice than just coming here any other way. people will always take the easiest route. complex, youtube won't allow more words.

Dobbs brought up some points I had never considered. He said pretty plainly that it's not Mexicans fault that some of them are forced to live in squalid conditions which promote diseases like Tuberculosis, and these conditions are much more persistent there than in the U.S. The obvious continuation of that is that unscreened immigrants from Mexico are more likely to be carrying these diseases when they enter America. Cenk had Dobbs on what he would do about it however, Dobbs knew it too.

Dobbs is right about how tremendous illegal immigration serves corporate interests. This also helps Republicans, since undocumented aliens are a large group of working poor whose economic interests would be served by a more equal distribution of income, but who can't vote. The corporatist wing of the Republican party--the mainstream--have no incentive to tackle this issue.

Politicians don't want to do anything about illegal immigration because it lowers wages for American workers- and paying lower wages make business happy. There is a professor at Harvard, Borjas, who has researched this. Those hardest hit by illegal immigration are the lower classes. This is why the gov't won't take it on- it benefits the wealthy at the expense of the poor and middle class.

Meat packing jobs used to be some of the best paying jobs in the nation. They were unionized and workers made around $30 per hour. The owners started bringing in illegals, broke up the union, and now those are some of the lowest paying jobs. People say a tomato will cost $20 if we didn't have illegals to pick them at cheap wages. Did meat cost a fortune when meat packers earned a decent wage? No. I don't blame the illegals- I blame the traitorous business owners.
