can u pleze leave a coment on my chanel named 1 the blue 1 u can see the pic on canel so yea blue 1 madona greeny blue 1 has got no name they are both girl .thanks : ) pleze leve coment how to tame as well"
ow my gosh wow i wish my bird can go out side not in its cage they were once out they dident fly away ether thr wings wont cut but im never doing it again i cant trust them to go out
very well done but you should work on getting him to stop trying to preform extra tricks. One trick he could easily learn is a 360 turn. You can also try using objects and one of those bird playgrounds
He's a delightful budgie! I'm so impressed by these tricks! I swear my budgie has ADHD; we never even got to complete clicker conditioning. My 'tiel does better with that.
I'm trying to teach my budgie the spin trick, and that's how I started. She just did it on her own. I just use the 'Patience' method, no clicker, but the clicker looks like a good idea!
If you want to get him to play with their bells, I find that if you play with it yourself outside of the cage the budgie will get quite curious and try it out himself.
If you start by basically charging the clicker (see above mentioned books and website). Then if he plays with his bell, click and treat. He will soon understand toys are for playing with.
WOW! Great Video! I do clickertraining with my older rescued budgies. They love it!! It is amazing how motivated these small birds are. We ae not as advanced as yours yet, but they are not afraid any more. Very important!
I use "The bird school" clickertraining by Ann Castro. That book comes with a target stick and clicker. In Canada a clicker costs about 4 $. You find them in the dog section of pet shops. I use spray millet as a treat. Most budgies will do almost anything to get it.
Great job you are doing with him/her! My budgie isn't food motivated, so I wouldn't know what to use as the reward. I have an Amazon who does tricks. He was food motivated, but I never used a clicker. He just responded to praise and food. Now, he doesn't even care about the food. He likes the tricks just for the attention and praise.
WOW,, cool budgie! I have two budgies but one is a lot easier to train than the other. I've got them to wave, spin in a circle , high 5 and kiss my nose! but i seem to be having difficulty with spin round the perch :S
Thats great! Agian its all just basic stuff and shapeing. There is a group on yahoo called bird click which is great for training.
Also a book called how to clicker train your bird.
I got mac to spin because he did it by himself once or twise and i happened to be ready and clicked and treated when he did it himself. I then added a hand signal and voice command to it.
It doesnt really matter where you get them from as long as they are healthy and taken care of well. I got mine hand reared from a pet store - so they are out there. Its just a matter of handling the bird before you decided on to see if its hand reared. Either way, when they are very young they are quite easy to tame.
As i said previously he was hand reared so he was never really to scred of hands. With constant handling and only positive reinforcement; he trusts us. Clicker training is just a tool to "bridge" the good behaviour with the reward. So it can be clearer for the animal to understand. There is a book called clicker training for birds that may be really helpfull.
I got him when he was 6 weeks, fresh out of the "nest"(he was hand reared). I started clicker training with him not long after, maybe when he was a few months old. I believe its never to late to train any animals. It just may take a little longer or a little harder as they get older. But if you persist with patience and ONLY positve reinforcement and trust- then you are well on your way to a great partnership.

Very well trained. You think is possible to teach your budgerigar to free fly if you train it?
mnxmnx07 2 years ago
Hey, that poor bird does the last few tricks for free!
Wouldn't he be rewarded for his hard work???
Anyway, that bird can FLY (great, his wings aren't clipped but) are you still training OUTSIDE?
It looks like that!
Fidi987 3 years ago
Once he jumped back on my finger he got a treat.
His wings ARE clipped. And yes we were training outside.

@broncosass299 Do you mean clicker? From what I know (I'm no expert) it's a tool used to train budgies (and other birds too.)

Wonderful work!! I have been training my Budgie Louis to "jump" (fly to me on command) using a clicker and the results are great!
I was wondering, how did you teach your bird to spin? you have a very clever bird and admire the work you have put in to him/her <3
clairythefairy88 3 years ago
He did it one day on his own, so I caught it and treated him for it.

The best video yet!!! Wow, great job, I'm impressed.
So, all you do is train the budgie with the clicker, target, voice command and treat? How long did it take you to do that??
What would you recommend a new budgie keeper like me whose birds are sedentary and do not play with their bells please?
thank you!!! <3

what do u give him as a treat
and how much does a clipper cost
sotiri04 3 years ago
I used budgie seed mix or millet sprays (because he was on a pellet diet)
A clicker costs less than AU$10

McKenzie was hand reared. But any bird very young out of the nest are easy to train. Its all about patience and persistance.

Your budgie is loverly.
I'm hoping to get one soon.
I've had them previously.
But they were never really tame.
I'm not sure where to get them from though.
Is it best to get them from a shop?
Or a breeder?
Cause I'm not sure if they're hand
reared in shops.

A budgie that is in good health will stand on one foot. They do it when they are sleepy or relaxing.

I used just budgie seed mix (mix of millets). He is on a pellet diet so seed is just a treat for him
