  • cheap ass build quality. I was in my local Sony and played with it. POS!

  • OH MY GOD i was in some sony store and I was trying to use this and the scrolly thing was HORRIBLE.

  • Sonys are expensive, but usually pretty powerful, sleek and awesome build quality

  • i like the white one to the left, any1 know the model of that one?

  • For the most part, Sony has really good quality products, but they relay on Microsoft as we all know for their computers and that just make it not worth. This little computer is a really good idea!!, but then again Microsoft is all over it. Instead, i got an iPad and you'll be surprised how much this product closed the gap between iPhone and a MacBook Pro.

  • so if it doesnt have a touch pad what do you do to move about

  • MACCS SUCK!

  • you suck.

  • cant wait for this model to meat the macbook air. the size of the vaio and the thickness of the macbook air will make the ultimate portable laptop. wish this laptop was cheaper. sadly i cant afford it. in malta it costs €1,299.00 which is way too expensive for a laptop that small/

  • Full HD 1600 x 1200 WTF? since when is 1600 x 1200 HD what a fucking idiot

  • @MG5319 It can play FULL HD video on 1600 x 1200 res, that's what she trying to say.

Probably just dumb ass, wanna be geek freak.

  • NO you little fag that's the biggest bullshit ever. Secondly I am no geek XD haha geek man I have never heard that one used against me before. Buy a life. Comment 3 months ago hahah

  • You're the dumbest person i've ever met. Seriously, You can play Full HD video as in 1920 x 1080 resolution video on a 1600 x 1200 laptop resolution.

If you still don't agree with me, then you should do another hobby or change your profession.

And lastly, don't call someone faggot moron. Apparently you dont know me and certainly i don't know you. I have the right to call you moron because of your respond. So immature.

  • I am no idiot I know you can play 1080p HD on a 1600 x 1200 reso screen, but it makes no sense the way she says it. As if it's something extraordinary. Oh and never ever call me a dumbass again, You hear me kid! My profession ain't computers and shit. I am a doctor in training and a researcher..

  • @exconvictriddick "You can play Full HD video as in 1920 x 1080 resolution video on a 1600 x 1200 laptop resolution."

lol you need to do you math again

The best widescreen(16:9) video resolution you'll achieve on 1600x1200 is 1600x900. Last time I checked 900p isn't full HD. So maybe you should go find another hobby. She didn't say it can play HD video, she said it will output full HD.

  • And i wasn't referring you as a dumbass, wanna be geek freak. That was for the woman.

  • @MG5319 What? 5:4 isn't full HD? lol

  • @urantivirus you should learn to read my comment/

  • @MG5319 no thanks. but you should learn sarcasm or learn what aspect ratio is. I'm not sure what it is you're not getting.

  • @urantivirus as I already said learn to read my comment little fag. I dont care about sarcasm and crap this is the internet. You dont have to tell me what aspect ratio is kiddo, I know more than you do. Furthermore, this aint my hobby nor my job XD loser.

  • vista still a pain in vaio p, even with 2gb ram, 2.0 ghz processor and 256GB SSD

  • Well, we unfortunately live in a Intel dominated world...

They have been fined $500 million dollars in Europe alone for oppressing their competitors and hence stifling competition.

In Japan they have tiny processors that consume less then 5 watts (compared to about 50 watts on intels) that are more powerful then Intels, and they 50 watt models just blow away Intels.

But we'll never see them in laptops because of Intel.

  • Can someone tell me please if this is as fast, or faster than Fujitsu's Lifebook P1630 using the Core 2 Duo chipset?

    Thanks.

  • dude thats a rip off i could almost get macbook pro 15 inch for that price

  • I love this type of mouse pointer, It's just like the thinkpad pointer mouse. I love em! I prefer them to a real computer mouse, its more like thinking where you want the cursor to go when you can type fast. But sure maybe a little getting used to if your used to a mouse track pad. But thats only because sony made such a nice keyboard for a PC this size. Its very practical to use this type of mouse in this type of portable computer

  • Sony can call the thing what they like, but it's still a netbook.

Slowish low powered processor, 8 inch screen, cramped keyboard. Yes it's a netbook.

  • common knowledge that Win7 is a resource conservationist....most people i know are running 7 beta on their netbooks

  • Why does everyone bitch about small PCs being underpowered, its not focused on performence, loads of USB ports or huge trackpad and screen. Its designed to be the smallest PC, also it's not a netbook.

GPS, Bluetooth, Wireless N, 3G, Portability and lovely looks.

It's not a fully fledged laptop for doing everything on.

  • "also it's not a netbook."

.. lets see.. it's got an 8 inch screen, a slow-low powered CPU and a cramped keyboard. a couple of USB slots, card reader, wireless connectivity, I'd say its a netbook. Vista's performance on this, is not going to be good.

Are not netbooks basically small PCs. They can run all the operating systems that any other PC can. Windows, Linux, 'Hackintosh', Solaris, etc.

  • Ultraportables have been around for a while.

A "Netbook" is classified as a CHEAP WEB CENTRIC computing device, classified by Microsoft as below something like £350, low powered and designed for internet cafe use.

Sony doesn't want to make a Netbook.

Sony wants to make a stylish and light Ultraportable "Lifestyle PC".

"Vista's performance on this, is not going to be good."

It's not designed with performance in mind, this will not be your one and only PC. Also it has an instant on XMB.

  • 'stylish and light Ultraportable "Lifestyle PC".' ... sounds like words from Sony's marketing department.

Thing is this has a slow low powered Atom CPU, just like netbooks. Yes the build quality is higher and has a higher resolution screen.

Can't see why they've put Vista on this Atom powered computer, and other Atom powered computers are running with XP or Linux.

I've tried Vista on an Atom powered PC, it's just slow as hell. Even Wordpad takes ages to load.

  • Vistas not perfect but it really works fine.Youve just got to use it understanding it wont be a powerhouse.

Cant wait till Windows 7 though.

  • wtf happened to your text?!

  • I had Japanese mode on at the time.

  • oh, lol.

  • New Intel drivers are out, much better performance now.

It was a driver issue from the start but now Vista feels much snappier.

Don't buy this as your main family PC, buy it as your gadget envy inducing, back strain reducing, on the go PC that can fit in your jacket.

Get one with the 1.6GHz Atom and the 128GB SSD, the SSD makes a big difference to the performance.

  • well when you get a 2gb ram chip, any netbook can run vista flawlessly. and btw this has the best atom processor of any other netbook/umpc: a 1.86ghz. on the ther hand...it about $1,000. i'd never get a netbook for that price...

  • An Atom CPU with 2GB RAM can run Vista reasonably. I wouldn't say flawlessly. One has to trim a lot of unnecessary services and precesses to get a satisfactory performance out of slower CPUs with Vista. Also the Sonys come with a lot of crapware which really slows things down.

When this video was made most Vaio Ps only came with 1.33GHz CPUs apart from the Japanese versions. It's only the last few weeks that 1.86GHz have become generally available.

  • i think sony needs to make there own operating system no more microsoft windows.. maybe with XMB? :D

  • They have got a quick on function that uses the XMB.

  • what is ''Donco''???

  • she said "dongle."

  • donco... rofl xD

  • its so dumb and expensive, honestly I've toyed with this and considered buying one, I love sony but this thing really is crappy. First off- the price is way too expensive (might just as well get a laptop) and second is the keyboard, it is waaay too small to do anything productive with.

buy it if you think it will make you cool and have a lot of money, otherwise dont.

  • That keyboard is actually quite comfortable and I could type on it, no problem. Windows 7 will be going on mine first thing, as soon as I buy it!

  • it probably will crash when you install window7 lad

  • Windows 7 is actually more efficient than Vista, someone tried a Beta on it and it ran faster than Vista with no crashes.

  • Its a heck of a lot of computing power packed into a small place not suprozed it costs £800 could run Crysis on it!

  • lol what kind of pocket do u have to have for this lol

  • Typical Sony: Sexy but overpriced.

  • For my case of portability i got the xperia phone and vaio tt and i just have the vaio aw at home. xperia is for outside purposes where as the tt is for office/business use. this laptop seem a bit uselss in my perspective i love sony don't get me wrong but having a laptop without a harddrive just means u should get windows mobile.

  • got mine a week ago, now its runnin very fast with windows 7 on it. its really small for me tho.sony is not overpriced, this laptop is. theres good and cheap laptops they sell, check best buy or something ;)

  • yo can you run videos on it??

  • like downloaded ones from torrents or sumthin?

  • Can i play crysis at high and xtreme resolutions, and use autocad and burn a Blue ray disc, and drink a beer, and chat, download music, play Mario Bros 3 and use paint at the same time on this netbook?

    Please help me

  • you are a fucktard

  • if money was no object then this would be a beautiful bit of kit, as it stands the only thing this has going for it is the size!!

i mean lets face it, you can get a laptop with a damn sight more power, more features, and just as sexy for hundreds of pounds less and the only draw back would be an extra 2kg or so of extra weight!

honestly...sony vaio stuff has always been sleek but its always also been overpriced, to be honest, i think its simply not worth it, even at £600...still too much!

  • it sounds like a good piece of kit. i could only see bits of it though, she didn´t seem to have much control of her hands while she was talking.

  • can u insert cds in da laptop?

  • Where the fuck is the O in PC? Piece OF Crap.. you fail my friend

  • M - MONKEYS

    A - ATTEMPTING

    C- COMPUTING

  • Seconded.

  • Useless Unless you have tons of money to throw away

  • I prefer using my VaioTT. Top of the line, $4,400, CD Drive Blu ray/DVD/CD,1.6Gz,4GBRM,+$200 custom bulit in GPS,256GB SSD harddrive, Vista Ultimate, carbon fiber, lasts12.5 hours, made in Japan, finger print scan, Rogers Mobile Broadband etc... Its a bit expensive but its worth it. I'm just really glad I have it. I totally recommend to those looking for computer lookers. (mainly for travelers)

  • That sounds like one of those big ass laptops that isnt even a laptop anymore... btw 1.6 ghz processor? that sounds pretty crappy tbh but the rest is nice

  • £850!!

  • HOW MUCH"!!!!!

  • It runs "FULL windows vista"...

    not HALF of windows vista

=O wooah! never seen FULL windows vista before!

  • L'arnaque a l 'etat brute :)

  • are you a retard or somthing

  • mite take a hike ur sumtin

  • DOn't worry, I heard your tinfoil hat has already shipped.

  • I need that to protect my brain from the emissive radiation from that vaio shit due to japanese chink cheap production methods.

  • go for Samsung NC10

    or Msi u100

    they are both under 500

if i had money i would go for sony vaio p

but im not rich like hell

koreans make better quality and good performance with decent design with affordable price

    Sony is too overpriceeeeeeed

    sorry

  • I concur the Samsung NC10 and NC20 are the 2 best netbooks currently available.

  • This is cool but this is only for the hardcore travellers. I tried this computer out, it really does fit in my coat pocket and barely into my jean pocket. Unfortunately, the screen can only be viewed for a very limited amount of time. If ur planning on using this very frequently ur gonna strain your eyes and give your self a headache, so I bought the SOny Vaio SR. Obviously not as small but I bought top of the line. $1800. > 2.8 Ghz 13" screen. its amazing!

  • I tried one of these yesterday, its nothing special and vista on a 1.33 ghz processor is suicide. But luckily its a dual core processor

  • sony makes good stuff.. but overpriced and overrated...

  • But your paying for the quality for most of SONY's products...

  • the ones talking bad on this sony V series finally others feel same as i this is crazy pprice i mean 899.99 on amazon is foolish u can get a mac book for either 900 or bit more but why this so much huh SONY name patened how about all of us makes a laptop but out logo on it and charge our price example mines SJL for scott jame lewis LOL but no thi sis garbage

  • The real problem with this is not the price, but the fact that they put Vista on a 1.33ghz processor. Horrible idea.

  • yeah i totally agree.

  • Yup it's totally stupid putting Vista on a 1.33GHz processor, performance is going to be absolutely dire.

It would be far better if it came with XP or Ubuntu Linux.

  • Nonsense. I'm impressed by the fact that it is the first netbook to run Vista.

  • It's a low power 1.33 GHz Atom powered netbook. Vista just crawls on these things. Vista is bad enough when run on a Celeron CPU. Vista is great on things like Core 2 CPUs.

Only difference between this expensive Sony netbook and other lower priced netbooks like the Acer One and MSI Wind. Is the screen has a higher resolution, and the construction quality is somewhat higher. The GPU is exactly the same Intel GMA as other netbooks.

  • Ok... can I run Google Earth, edit 720p video clips, play games such as Space Rangers 2 or Ricochet and play streamed music with any other of these application at the same time? I also need to be able to type really fast, a lot and long during lectures.

  • When I first got my Acer One last year, I expanded it to 1.5GB RAM. I did try Vista on it. It took nearly 3 minutes to boot up, applications took ages to load and seemed very sluggish, I soon removed it, and went back to XP. Also the Acer has a faster CPU than the Sony.

Currently I've got Windows 7 RC on it now, performance seems to be OK with this, at least as good as XP.

With XP or 7 it should certainly be able to do all of the stuff you want to do. SR2 is not a demanding game.

  • Wrong PC to be looking at. This is for portable Style and Awesomeness, Use a fully fledged Multi-core notebook or a nice desktop for serious multitasking.

The keyboard on this is top notch compared to a regular netbook like the Asus Eee PC, Full-size for accurate typing.

Can't beat a proper Desktop Keyboard for productivity though.

  • The form factor and size is exactly what I need. I will never buy a bigger laptop.

  • Same with me, saving up.

  • trackpad?

  • "very fast processor"

Erm, it's using the slowest Intel Atom available - even the Acer Aspire One has a faster Atom chip.

2GB ram isn't much, you can buy a stick for 12 quid.

why is it such a rip, you'd have to be an idiot to buy it.

  • look njce and modern but TOO EXPENSIVE, better buy an Apple wit that amount of money!!

  • an extra what?

  • wibrain is more batter then this small laptop

  • new type of product???.....not worth its price....sony sucks......

  • you suck and go suck bill gates cock...

  • It's just not useful....

  • Flaw 899 usd

  • man this thing is sweet i seen it at frys yesterday

  • Its a portable device which looks quite cool :)

  • Bahhh so ugly....

  • you can preorder at sony website...came out today though....

  • im buying it today YIPPIE!

  • its not out yet... IS IT :O I WANT ONEEEE i likey the green one xD

  • 1.33 ghz is enough for this if u see the size of the damn thing and guys it running vista the crappiest and hungriest os ever built

  • Please justify your claim.

  • Should probably wait til technology advances some more.. Very little battery life in this. :/

  • wow she isn't very knowledgeable about processors in portable devices. 1.33ghz is pretty average...

Oh btw, your not decoding "full hd" with a 1.33ghz, i doubt that could decode 720p....

  • Sorry, I don't understand much about that either, is 1.33ghz very slow or.. ? Is it worth buying do you think?

  • For a laptop it isnt much,an average one has at least 2 ghz (single core)

For a PMP 1.3 ghz are high speed.the normal products have at most 500 mhz

so i think if this gonna be advertised as a notebook its low speed but for its size its high speed

  • Ah, ok. Thanks v. much.

  • is enough

  • Dude do you even know how small that is? The netbooks are running intel Atoms which are about the same so I don't see much of a problem

  • Very fast cpu? it's just 1.33ghz.

  • i like how she says dongle. dawngawl. lol

  • i love it, love them small, cause you can carry them easily

  • Performance wise, how does an intel atom 1.33 ghz compare to a 2 ghz core 2 duo? Is there any comparison at all? Also, what graphics chipset does it have? Sony have not released many specs.

  • Probably GMA950

  • 'Performance wise, how does an intel atom 1.33 ghz compare to a 2 ghz core 2 duo?' .. really badly.

The Atom CPU has about half the throughput of a Celeron. A 1.33GHz Atom would be performing roughly like a 700MHz Celeron. This does not make for a good Vista experience. XP or Linux would be far better here.

    Toms hardware Atom CPU benchmarks:

    tiny url . co m / qdkee5 (remove spaces)

  • I hate how sony is like "dont call it a netbook, its not a netbook", umm if it has an atom processor (assuming it does) then it is in fact a netbook lol. And if you have seen any videos on it, it runs vista terribly, windows 7 would be best. Can't say I don't like the look of it, but not worth the price to me.

  • Yes, obviously, Atom CPU = netbook. And also, why are you making statements like that if you're not even 100% sure of what you're talking about?

  • Still more USB port than the air! LOL

  • this thing is badass they should stop using dvd, cd, etc. and use sd or some other small form of data storage 4 music, games, etc. so u dont have 2 buy that big external cd drive..

  • way to small... my aspire one was hard to get use to I can not imagine trying to type on that thing :D

  • lol i like how she says in-built instead of built-in!

  • ...

  • We're just going to make laptops smaller and smaller until we can't type on the keyboard anymore.

  • cellphones?

people don't seem to mind texting on those

and its only 9 fucking buttons...

  • yeah its call the ipod touch...and it sucks...

but this thinga wireless mouse with it.

i have a sony vaio slim line pc ..i love it

  • Why are (marketing) people calling a modem a dongle nowadays? A dongle is a hardware copy protection for software, traditionally in the form of a ltp (printer port) connector and presently in the form of a usb stick. Especially if you are doing hardware reviews, you should know this if you wanna be taken seriously.

  • ah bla, it's an adapter not a modem

  • a dongle is a cable adapter...

  • holyyy shiiitttt i thort my acer one netbook was small

  • did she say Dungol?... wtf?

  • its dongle, but yeah

  • sony might've taken the wrong approach with this product...

  • does it have a cd drive

  • no too small

  • aw i would buy it if it had

so how do i uplod disc is ther another option to get the data in that comp??

  • a USB dvd cd drive

  • i bet you cant say that 10 times fast...

  • does it have a cd drive ??

  • Wow gorgeous piece of man-made shit.

  • is there a cd player ???

  • nope

  • Hey, buddy. Don't be so negative. That flattened out piece of shit could be used for a great purpose: like a paperweight with a picture screen.

  • I couldn't say it better myself mate. =)

P.S. Im a bit of a new Ipod Touch fan and IM LUVIN IT!

  • truelly ipods were pretty amazing at one time but know all in one phones are the shizz cuz u have ur music internet apps and calling all in one pocket instead having an ipod touch in one pocket and a phone in the other

  • that puppy is tiny

  • 0:40 -> "Very fast processor"

    Hummm..

That's just an Intel Atom processor...

  • actually its not an intel atom, its some 1.33 Ghz processor

  • @xoloxum

    1.33GHz Atom Z520

    Go check if you wish.

Beautiful UMPC but for the price, Sony could have powered it with an Intel Core duo just as they do with the Vaio UX series...

  • sorry you're right, at least they should have put the 1.6 GHz Atom in there

  • I think you can change the processor from 1.33 to 1.6 and 1.8.

Check the website, coz I;m pretty sure you can customise the spec.

  • I looked over sony's website that is doing preorders and they are all 1.3 ghz, but im sure if sells well they will have some with faster Atoms.

  • How ?

  • No trackpad, how do you use it? External Mouse?

    Anyway nice product Sony

  • U use the trackbal (the red thing between the keyboard)

  • cool thing!!
