  • Hi, I know this is kind of irrelevant to the video but, any tips on bigger surf? excersises? I will probably feel uncomfortable over 8 foot haha. Just signed up for my school swim team to be swimming as much as possible.

  • @manitsmatt I race in triathlons, marathons, work out regularly, compete with my physical education students at my school, freedive in excess of 100 feet with no tanks, surf big waves whenever they show up, and ride sharks. However, one thing is more important than all of the above - my mental state. You can be fitter than me but if you can't control your brain in hairy situations, it doesn't matter how fit you might be or how much you've trained. You'll die. It's all in your head.

  • great video watching it you almost get seasick

  • really cool vid man

  • Amazing footage, could watch it for hours. The board tumbling stuff would make for good abstract visuals.

  • How far below you is the reef? I heard it is very shallow at pipeline

  • @MrNewman8r A few feet deep especially at the first reef. I've been bounced off of that reef a few times. Super glue and duct tape is your friend if you want to continue surfing at pipe right after getting cut open on the reef there. I always carry some with me in my truck.

  • Was this the adhesive mount or bolt-in mount?

  • @MutilateYOU I think I had the adhesive one for this video. I then tried a bolt in mount and it was misaligned by the place that installed it. But it didn't matter because it got ripped during the next big day. There are at least two gopro cameras out there rolling around in the reef now and I don't currently own a gopro. I've got my eyes on the new HD2 from GoPro that was released earlier this week. Yum!

  • @blessumm

thanks alot, but ive been swimming alot, its been making me a stronger swimmer and feel better going out in bigger surf

  • are you deaf btw? I notice you were using sign... if so thats fkn awesome!! Bravo taking on pipe brah!! Even got high fives after hahaha!

  • @KEVING1TIME Yes, I'm deaf. Born deaf. Can't talk for squat either. Makes things difficult sometimes especially if backdoor is firing as well. Can't communicate well with others while paddling for a wave to determine which direction to go in, or to back off. I just have to be extra careful and polite at Pipe.

  • haha! i was christyhawk in the surfline forums. great vid. it was funny watching you get trashed in that opening wave :)

  • @hgsouth Hey Christy! :-) Yeah, it was a N/NNW swell which Pipe does not like. Makes almost every wave a close-out. Went out expecting to get thrashed - just wanted to see how the camera would perform. The thrashing wasn't too bad actually. Lots of sand on the reef that day.

  • That was FANTASTIC! The most realistic surfing video I have ever seen. Really captured the experience. BTW, you're REALLY good! Thanks for posting. I want to mount one of these on my SUP!

  • jeez you got hammerd in the first one damn!!

  • my question is.. why was no one out?

  • 2:37 damn

  • Damn dude. That was heavy. What were the life guards telling you in the beginning? You didn't used to post on the Surfline forums did you? Your mug is very familiar.

  • @RobertGoulet298 They were telling me it was too big and dangerous to go out and that I was going to die. They even said that they were not going to rescue me. I got a chuckle out of that one. I don't blame them for freaking out and trying to stop me - after all I'm white, was carrying a longboard and am not a household name. Nevertheless, I had a blast out there and had Pipe pretty much to myself. Yes, I used to post over at surfline - I was 'The Teacher" there.

  • @blessumm Very cool. Quite impressive taking on those waves with that big board. Ah yes, I remember you from the forums. I was Cross on the forums back in the day. I remember you posting video footage from a mount you made that stuck up above the tail of your board. Gave a cool perspective. Funny coming across you now. I just got a GoPro camera and your video came up as a related one to the video I just posted.

  • hahaha dood was like "its very dangerous out there...are you sure u wanna go?" haha

  • I have the GoPro camera as well, but my question is how were you able to keep the camera in place without it being tilted back or forward? I use my camera in waves with a lot less power than that and my camera seems to always get pushed down by the lips of the waves. Also great video BTW!

  • @goucla562 Screw it in really hard. If your hands/wrist are not strong enough to screw it in hard enough to lock it into place, then use a large screwdriver on the screw that is inside the thumbscrew. I do work out often... :-)

  • What The First Wave Was Sick You Just Got Sunk Right In

  • Found the website thanks. Looks pretty good. When I get back home, will be able to claim my camera on insurance and will definitely upgrade to go for the one with the Lens 1. Thanks for the heads up. I am still enjoying awesome waves before heading home. Still a bit p*ssed I lost my footage. Can't have everything I guess.

  • I hope this doesn't come up twice, I already tried to post it already. Thanks for the tip on using the leash, don't know why I didn't think of it. Have taken the Go Pro on Open deep water dives and got some awesome footage. Tied the GoPro to my wrist with some cord. Don't know who Munkogasuski is, looks like he is calling me the "KooK". I have been called worse :) Anyway, thanks again for the tip about the leash. Have had no probs with the mount as yet.

  • @MegaBlueday Gotcha, didn't realize that Munkyo was copying, pasting and then responding to you. I'll toss out his post since it's worthless. Btw, you might be interested in the "eyeofmine" housing for the gopro. I ordered one for diving as it should fix the focus issue with the stock GoPro housing. I'll find out next week. Hmm, can't post the website... Google "eye of mine underwater focus fix"

  • After successfully using Go pro for six months, I tried it on the Indonesian waves. After two weeks of surfing great waves, a wave pushed the camera out of the mount. Gone. Great footage gone. Not happy.

  • @MegaBlueday My GoPro mount to board interface did break partially that day at Pipe, and then completely othe next time I took it out surfing. I was smart enough to install the leash option so the camera and footage wasn't lost.

  • @blessumm Im sorry Im not sure I follow which mount you are referring to here...are you talking about the fcs mount of the adhesive mount? thanks! great video.

  • The Lifeguard though Deaf cant do anything like High surf! but that good you didnt listen him :) but for me i refuse go there! i would die for sure!

  • man I fing loved that!

  • Please post more videos like this. You are an extremely talented longboarder. Keep up the great work!
