Can we please not all fight over which country conributed the most to the defeat of the Axix in WW2? I'm not denying the USA made an invaluable contribution to the war, but the British and Russians as well as the other Allied nations threw their heart into it as well. The spirit of cooperation was something that really did the Axis in; as far as Europe goes, Britain needed our weapons, supplies, and manpower while we needed their experience and intuition of the British as well.

Can we please not all fight over which country conributed the most to the defeat of the Axix in WW2? I'm not denying the USA made an invaluable contribution to the war, but the British and Russians as well as the other Allied nations threw their heart into it as well. The spirit of cooperation was something that really did the Axis in; as far as Europe goes, Britain needed our weapons, supplies, and manpower while we needed their experience and intuition of the British as well.

The US was only able to get involved because the UK held out and acted as a launching platform for bombing missions and the invasion of France. But Britain may have fell without US material aid (in the form of oppressive Lend Lease).

You could argue that without critical British knowledge passed to the Manhattan project, the US would have faced a crippling invasion of the Japanese mainland. Even the US were sceptical they could prevail in that without severe losses and so were eager to get the Russians involved.

@insanity401 Russia and America evolved as enemies only in the last 150 years or so due to a difference in political ideology and the rivalry to become world powers. So I can't agree entirely there is that much inherent hate between Russia and America. The Muslims however are different. They got 1400 years of history of doing nothing but hating everyone who isnt a Muslim hence terrorism. So I'm with you there.

@133caboose Hey that's not quite fair - Ukraine's involvement and sacrifice in defeating Hitler should not be diminished. Maybe, on land the Ukraine's tribute was even greater than that of the U.S.

Only by defeating this collective effort could the cause of Hitler be defeated. In the end, Hitler mattered no longer - maybe he even escaped, nobody cares. I believe so.

@133caboose In every war you've just mentioned you had the help of numerous other countries, your losing in Afghanistan, and after doing a project in high school I had to go round interviewing soldiers. And everyone of them even some from different countries said the same thing "America's got the best equipped army in the world, but not best". You only have the leading peace organization because it's an excuse to invade other peoples countries.
