Mollie...simply is the greatest..and its ur unconditional love which made him more beautiful & a very good pet...thank you for sharing such an amazing video....
I've got a 13 year old Pigeon and a 3 year old Dove. The Pigeon alas just kinda sits around and dosn't do much any more... I'm not sure how to get her more active, I used to love going outside with her like this. The Dove is quite active, but I just got him so he dosn't respond well enough to my calls yet for me to take him out with me without worry of him running off, nor his homing instincts being strong enough yet!

Looks like an alpha male trying to keep everyone in line. He's a Rock Dove but I see no cliffs or stone buildings there. Are there other Rock Doves around there too?
@mmedefarge He is definitely an alpha male! And the cats are his potential mates....silly bird. No, we live in the plains of Kansas, no cliffs nearby. We found him under a stock trailer at our county fair. Our town is old, most of the stores are stone and we have quite a few doves around.
One of my cats would have eaten it alive at first sight, we always find remains of dead birds in his outdoor shelter... He considers the mice as human food tho, those are left at our feet :P
can you tell me how did you train your cats not attack your bird?, my cats attack whatever is alive and moving and I hate it, I hate when they kill birds and mice .
@Danyar38 Mollie the pigeon is older than the cats. They were introduced to him as kittens and spent a lot of time around him. They are still monitored closely when together, because instincts are strong. We have one cat now who we must shut in the garage when we let the pigeons out because he will try to attack them. It's nothing you can really train...
He's adorable. I'd love to know what was running through his little pigeon brain when he was showing off in front of the kitties. And randomly perching on your head... too cute. =D
If you still have this pigeon, I would highly recommend that you get him a female. He was dancing for your cats! I've had pigeons for a long time and if it's one thing I know is that this pigeon looks like he needs a female to be with.
@groundbirdsman It's not for lack of trying. We acquired a young pigeon we were sure was a female...turns out we now have 2 males...both with female names.
I had a black tumbler/roller that had a huge passion for me. I was his human "mate". He would literally groom me (yes, that's right) generally around my eyes and in my ear! When i see mollie in your videos, it brings back those unforgetible memories.
Very handsome pigeon. Great personality, too. I rescued a king pigeon who was lost, sick and hungry on my porch. Fed her and she became well. At first she used to attack me by pecking me and doing the kungfu wing slap. Then I let her out of the cage after a month and gave her a shampoo bath and blow dried her. She suddenly became tameer By 3 moths she was completely tame. Now she is affectionate, just like a dog. Still bites other people but is very tame towards me. She is an awesome pet.
My pigeon does that to my(his) stuffed toy cat, hes not doing anything naughty he just gives sticks and some strings to it and pecks it (not aggressively)
I want a pigeon! But, then again, I also want a llama, a donkey, an otter, an owl, a goat, an alpaca, a seal, a swan, a tarsier, a giraffe, an elephant, .........
very cool video. :) Be carfull though, even though if you raised the pigeon with the cats...the cats may turn on the bird oneday. I raise Birmiham rollers. I use to have homing pigeons like the one you have.
Brill' upload.I remember a friend of mine 20 odd years ago had the same relationship with a feral pigeon which he had rescued fallen from it's nest, reared it as his own, followed him everywhere. The pigeon would wait for him when he'd get off the school bus and fly up to him, happy memories.I've been a fancier since childhood, not suprised pigeons can be taught almost anything, when they're young in the nest is the best time.Me personally have got loft full of tame pigeons, but not as tame as yours.
The pigeon seems to be expressing domination/possession, including of the owner, who he regards as his territory, and seems to be expressing this to the cats. He goes through the same pre-mating motions towards the cats, because in many male vertebrates (including humans) the act of mating is also an expression of domination/possession.
Among farmyard fowls--i.e. chickens who've not lost their natural instincts and behavoirs--a fight between 2 males can end in victor "mating" with the loser, a final show of dominance by thoroughly humiliating the loser.
This behavior has its variant among humans: in wars, the winners have inflicted many humiliations upon the losers. One such humiliation is for the commander of the winning side to get one of his own lowest ranking soldiers to sod**ize the King of the losing side.
This is a nice video. I've kept pigeons for years. When you asked him if he was going to get on the cat, you were actually spot on. He's looking for a mate thats why he turns about like that "cooing", and blowing his crop (chest) out. You could build a small coop. Once he gets used to it, you could get him a hen (female pigeon), they would mate, and always return to the coop. Baby pigeons would be around in the blink of an eye though. Good luck with him.
my mom rescued a male pigeon and he was NEVER nice to anyone...he lost his wing but he still was a mean fucker...sad to say i never like pigeons since he attacked me all the time.hmm. but your pigeon seem very nice :)
Hi this is a great video. i have this rock pigeon now and the size of it is still pretty small, it as still a mature chick when i rescued it. And now it has been around 3 months since i rescued it. I tried bringing it outside and let it take flight. But apparently the pigeon isn't as obedient as yours. It doesn't really fly to me when i call its name. Most of the time it just ignore me.. How did you train you pigeon?
Gosh, I don't really remember, its been over 10 years since I've had a baby pigeon. We actually fed him worms, but that's not the best way to do it at all. I guess we just read his body language, and when he was loud and head bobbing we fed him. Every few hours I'm sure.
I raised him from a very young age and he trusts me. I feed him, love him, and give him shelter. When he was really young he stayed in a box by my bed. When he started to fledge we built a flight cage for him outside. He loves his home.

Nice pigeon friend. Did you raise him because he was found, or get him from someone? My cats regard my pigeons with deep suspicion and won't touch them. They don't act like prey, and so don't get treated like it. He sure is a coo-er!
i truely believe these pigeons are the closest creatures to humans than any other .. they are birds and yet live in human structures only not on trees like other birds and they are the only creature that aren`t afraid of human at all . in other words they are closer to human that to their own kind ..aren`t they ??
Living in nyc I have come to love pigeons and their antics. I always feed them even though I am told you're not supposed to. I wish I was able to have one as a pet..but as you can Imagine..I can't just go to a store and purchase one. I wish I knew where to get one as a baby.
I love this video! And I love pigeons. And cats. I have pigeons living in my roof. They've been there for 7 years and they are very tame. I wish they'd get more respect from people. They're very cool, very smart birds.

Nice pigeon friend. Did you raise him because he was found, or get him from someone? My cats regard my pigeons with deep suspicion and won't touch them. They don't act like prey, and so don't get treated like it. He sure is a coo-er!

Why did you name a male bird Mollie? Isn't that going to screw with her I mean his self-confidence?

i truely believe these pigeons are the closest creatures to humans than any other .. they are birds and yet live in human structures only not on trees like other birds and they are the only creature that aren`t afraid of human at all . in other words they are closer to human that to their own kind ..aren`t they ??

Living in nyc I have come to love pigeons and their antics. I always feed them even though I am told you're not supposed to. I wish I was able to have one as a pet..but as you can Imagine..I can't just go to a store and purchase one. I wish I knew where to get one as a baby.

I love this video! And I love pigeons. And cats. I have pigeons living in my roof. They've been there for 7 years and they are very tame. I wish they'd get more respect from people. They're very cool, very smart birds.
