Her father likely abused her and eventually sold her on the streets of London as a prostitute . Though her beauty gave her great business , it came at a heavy cost . She contracted syphilis for which there was no cure at the time . The Master came to her with the offer of immortality and asked if she had any objections as a Catholic .
