Hello Branigan- I believe that Olivia was four or five months pregnant when this video was made. I think that she left pop music to raise her children. She was married to Matt Latanzi(Xanadu, My Tutor) for quite a while, and I think they had two children together.

I always felt as though she was trying too hard to shock during this time, and I don't feel that it suited her very well. I agree with you, she was better when she stuck to the original formula.

Yes, that's right, she did. Katey was a backgound singer before she became a comedy actress. She once toured with Bette Midler and Barry Manilow back in the Seventies.

I've been a fan ever since her career began, though I hated this period in her career, when she definitely got off course. Though this video was OK, and the song - though suggestive - isn't as bad as I remembered it, it still represents a low point. But her career is NOT over. And if you want to hear Olivia at her absolute best, listen to her latest - "Grace and Gratitude." It is absolutely AWESOME, and I've nearly worn it out from playing it so much!

God some of the posts here are nasty LOL. I grew up listening to ONJ from the time I was about 6 or 7 thanks to my mother who loved her. I am nearly 40 now and yes this is not one of her best cds and it was around this time that Madonna was becoming more popular but this lady will always have something Madonna never will - a voice and respect from her peers oh and yes I am a Madonna fan as well.

Dear 7point, I wouldn't waste my time trying to convince some of these diehard Oliva fans that Soulkiss was a flop - which it was. But, i will say that it flopped because it got very little airplay because Olivia was going out - or actually Madonna pushed her out. Soulkiss is a good song and has aged very well. Sounds better now than in '85

For your info I am an OLIVIA fan from the 70s to now and I love this album SOUL KISS. I think it is one of her best albums. So dont think OLIVIA fans did not buy the whole sex kitten thing because we did. She did not promote this album much because of her family came first.

Hey I do too. I always thought Belinda Carlisle was Underrated as a vocalist. And she was really beautiful too. My gosh, those cheekbones. BUT she's on "Rock the Cradle" as a judge and I've got to say as a judge she's a little whacked! I wish she'd make a comeback.

Great song. And Liv did a find job being slutty, shes beautiful and does have a sexy side. I bet she had a blast doing this. Also, if you look at the "tub scene" you will see that Liv looks alot like Madonna during her Blonde Ambition Days, which was years after this song came out. So it looks like Liv may have been ahead of her time. And the lyrics "I get down on my knees and thank you baby"...wow, that's some hot shit.

7pointsillicite- Olivia was pregnant in this video & did not promote it. Although she did release a couple albums over the next 10 years, she did not promote them much because she was too busy raising her daughter. The song did not flop because it was considered a bad song, it flopped because she got married, got pregnant & didn't promote it - then came Madonna. Madonna picked up where Olivia left off and took it from innuendo to more than physical! Madonna had already done a porno movie prior.

Actually PaleBlueMoon, Aside from the fact that Olivia was raising a daughter, this song & video WAS an attempt to do the "sex kitten" thing and her (ONJ's) fans did not buy into it, because it simply was not her...There was a new era that she just did not fit into, if you want to compare her to Madonna. The whole disco Xanadu thing was gone with the eighties.
If you notice, this song still has a touch of that. It was a wise career move for her to go off & raise a family & admit it was over.

Man,I thought that it was an innocent song and not suggestive. IMO it sounded kinda bland even then, at the same time I knew it was an Olivia Newton John record, so I like to this very day. It may sound contradicting to my review of the song but I wanted it to chart higher. BTW she made an appearance on Rick Dees Top 40 when it peaked - not that I remember the conversation unfortunately.

People, it did not flop! The song went to #20 on both Billboard's "Hot 100" and "Adult Contemporary" charts and #28 on the Hot Dance/Maxi-Single Sales chart. And the album, "Soul Kiss" went to #29 on The Billboard 200.
