I remember bustin' Gary Roosevelt's ass his senior year in high school. He dropped 38 WITH no 3 pt. shot! He would have had in the mid 40's if they did. The inner city tough guys from "Velt (and they were hardened) tried to punk that Plymouth team and were moderately successful with the other players but NOT Skiles. The more they talked, taunted ,and played physical the better and more determined he played. He carried that same tenacity to Michigan St. and to the pros.
The Michigan roster was full of players with big inner-city reputations, including an all-everything guard named Antoine "The Judge" Joubert. Skiles dropped 40 on them while yelling at Joubert, "Come on, fat boy. Show me something." That's all you need to know about Scott Skiles as a player.
Skiles needs a stage for his niche market. 5% of this country, those who know the score, deserve a perspective like his analyzing today's game. I'm not holding my breath. Walton's the token and it goes without saying we're all wierdos like him flying on LSD. WRONG!
How 'bout a gritty Midwestern kid who evolved into a great coach capable of handling big egos and maintaining discipline.
It's too bad most people don't remember how great Skiles was as MSU. His game was as understated as his size. He was a true competitor and a great player.

Scott Skiles sucks!!!!! He was good as a college player. That's where it stops. His best year in the NBA was with an expansion team(1990) that just started. Wow. What an impact player. Gimme a break. And he sucks as a coach. By the way I loved Respert in college but he and Magic aren't in the same building. Whoever wrote that needs to research. Respert wasn't even as good as Steve Smith was at MSU. 4REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shawn Respert is the leading scorer in MSU history. Magic isn't even close. He only played 2 years at MSU. Skiles may have left as the all-time leading scorer though. Steve Smith was the leading scorer before Respert.
Don't forget they added the 3 point line the year after Skiles left. I loved Respert, Smith, Johnson, and now Lucas, but I think Skiles is the best shooting and passing guard I have ever seen. Many of his shots were well beyond the current arc.
Bill, this is him when he played at Michigan State. Behind Magic Johnson, he is the second leading career scorer in Michigan State history. Pretty good for a white boy from Marshall County, Indiana! Tom.....
