I love this song..."Down the Trail of Achin' hearts, by Patti Page. I was very young when she sang this. Probably around 15 years old......In 2010..I am now 75. Just remember this.....PEOPLE get OLD.....MUSIC never GETS OLD. It's IMMORTAL. This is a clear example of MUSIC of this type.
Oh, this song is so beautiful. Who could possible do a bad job with it? I had never heard it by Patti before but Hank Snow and Anita Carter sing it so wonderfully. I like the addition of the last verse which Hank and Anita leave out. Does anyone know who had the original?
@glipzik I suspect that Patti Page's recording was the first because it made the Pop Chart just before Hank Snow's made the Country Chart. In the early 1950s when Patti's recordings were most popular, records were released as Pop, Country, or R&B. Her record likely would have made the Country Chart but Mercury Records was more interested in the more lucrative Pop market. It took 10 years for Patti to have a record (Mom and Dad's Waltz) make the Country Chart as a followup to Tennessee Waltz.
LYRICS 2: Once I was passing your window, Under the light of a star, Somebody else play my love song, And play it on my old guitar. Down the trail of achin hearts After you have all your darlings, Maybe youll be on the shelf, Why are these days, little darling, Now you maybe down there yourself. Down the trail of achin hearts
I love it.She sang it sweet and simple and that is PATTI.

LYRICS 1:
You told me I was your darling,
You kept me hanging around,
Somebody else is your darling,
For lonesome and blue Ill be found.
Down the trail of achin hearts,
Where nobodys hiding their tears,
You set me there where sadness start,
Down the trail of achin hearts.

Thanks to all for your comments.
I think Patti had the most beautiful voice of any singer in the 50s.
Thats high praise. I can think of nearly 20
great female singers from the 50s.
