Today is the 13th anniversary of his celebration beginning in Heaven. Lots of debate here. But, having met and chatted with him several times, I can tell you that he would want the discussions to be about Jesus and "The Love of God". A biography about him, entitled 'An Arrow Pointing to Heaven' is awesome. And he truly was... and still is. Great rendition and tribute of 'Creed'. And as Rich always said, 'Be God's.' 'Peace of Christ to you!'
Rich was ready to meet Jesus that is a given! Whenever I listen to much of his songs in the SONGS album, you since a prophetic understanding of Rich going home. I am so glad he allowed the Lord to lead him out of the Church of Christ who do not believe in music as God has used Rich and others mightily in his gifting of song and music,
And kudos to y'all as great job in both music and signing and especially in your worship, Oh the ragmuffin gospel touchching lives in Jesus!
It is interesting that so much talk is given to what Rich believed and what his intentions were or would become on a video of a song that clearly states what he believed and what his intentions were.
@toddstangl I could not have said that any better. In fact most church i hope would agree with lyrics of this song, i know i do and i'm Assembley of God.
Either way you go, Rich is home. part of me wishes he'd stuck around long enough to vocalize his intentions one way or the other so everyone would stop guessing whether what might have been (that wasn't) would've been a good idea (even though it never happened). I'd rather just focus on what was and what God chose to speak through Rich, not what he didn't.
I have no doubt that you know many catholics, but you dont know every catholic. I am friends with an elderly catholic woman who has a shrine to Mary in her home, and that is worship. I think it is only a small percentage who do that, but they are indeed out there.
Really? Rich was going to become Catholic? He said he wished there was such a thing as a Christian monk at one time (in other words, didn't want to be Catholic). Well, now, he's in Heaven, so I'm sure he is worshipping God alone and not Mary....
since we have disputing accounts of whether he would have at all, I think we're best served to leave that between Rich and God. I doubt the timing you suggest only because life is rarely that entertaining. But again, it seems as possible at it does impossible, since we really can't predict what never happened.
Good question. The lyrics actually follow the Nicene Creed a little closer. The creed itself mentions 'one holy catholic and apostolic church'. It's best noted, however, that 'catholic' as an adjective means broad or far-reaching, and is different than the Roman Catholic Church.
That said, whether Rich was (or was about to be) Catholic in the denominational sense is up for debate. His family says no, and some of friends say he was about to be. Either way, his words are show much love and faith
Yeah, the creed is lovely no matter what flavor of Christianity. And yes you're correct, the creed has catholic with a little "c" which means "universal".
I grew up Baptist but will be confirmed into the Catholic Church this coming Easter. I can't wait!
A nice rendition, but I feel the piano, though well played, detracts from the acoustic sound of the HD and guitar. I think because so much of the piano and HD are playing in the same register and have the similar sound production, they tend to muddy each other a bit. I do like the piano at the very end quite a bit.
Wow...truly inspired! It has to be said again, that one can never get tired of hearing that song. I look forward to the day when I can meet Rich in heaven and say thank you again for the awesome music and legacy he left behind. Great job...and thanks for posting.
Uh....what about Philip's 4 daughters who prophecied? What about all the prophecies in Acts (like over Paul and over Peter about how much Paul would suffer for Christ and how Peter would die)? There is prophecy all the way through the Bible. And a major portion of it was written by PROPHETS! We are not talking The Book Of The Mormon; we are talking The Holy Bible!!!
Great job! This song says everything that needs to be said for a believer. Rich must be smiling from heaven, big-time. Thank you for the super video and God bless.
I have one of his last videos from Lufkin, Texas..Rich Mullins is one of my all time favorites..it's always a pleasure to put on his videos and learn more about him, his faith, and the works of God here on earth..Kudos, Excellent version of one of my favorites!!!
a lot of songs get me closer to God and Rich has a few . You did a very good job and I saw it in the faces and sounds of the whole band. Its a personal song. Your church is blessed to have worship like you give them. Never stop ty JC
Great Sound! I could close my eyes and see Rich! A nice tribute to him and the Creator! The Amazing thing is that the Creed was written by a group of Bishops and leaders in the Catholic Church in the fourth century to speak against the heresy of the time and establish for all time, what God intends for us as Christians to believe. Blows my mind to think of the power of the Holy Spirit to protect this Church so that 1600 years later, we can stand and sing the Creed, the contents of
Haha. I come from a "non-creedal" church background, but affirm the contents of the Nicene creed, although I'd balk at saying it "established for all time, what God intends for us as Christians to believe." I'm not saying that the Holy Spirit wasn't involved with the Church councils. I guess that I'm hoping to keep Scripture over Church Councils, and "The Word of God" Jesus Christ over both of these.
Ehrm. . . but the material that was included or left out of the Scriptures was decided by "church councils". The The Council of Laodicea in 360 produced a list of books similar to our current canon. That list was continually refined until the reformation, when the Catholic Church settled on a larger list of books, and the Protestants a smaller set. They books of the Canon of scriptures (what we call the Bible) have remained constant since then. Without councils we would have no "Bible."
I missed Mother Mary some where in there ??? Of course the Goddess of the catholics is completely different than the Mary in the Bible. It took the catholic Mary until 1951 before she "ascended " to heaven. And the catholic Mary is omnipresent, able to hear millions of prayers at the same time. The Mary in the Bible was a sinner like you and me. Don't waste your time and soul trying to pray to a catholic Goddess Mary. Have a nice Day!!
I agree. Rich Mullins sound was unique- definately not "canned" musically or lyrically like so much of what we have in Christian music today (yes, this song is from the Apostles Creed, but across the board his lyrics were original)
Man, you did well. There isn't a Christian artist I respect more, and you did very well. Sounded great, I couldn't say enough if I tried, so I'll quit now. Anything you record in the style of RM, please put out there. You gotta keep it going. He's timeless.
I met Rich when I was a teenager. I happen to know that he was not converting to Catholicism. He was a Christian just like the rest of us.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but...
Since the lyrics are based on the Apostles Creed, was Rich Mullins a Catholic?

To Dash RipROCK:
Yeah, the gift of prophecy, that or I'm insane.
Frankly, I'm happy if you actually read this message and question.
I invite you to find an original copy of A Liturgy a Legacy and a Ragamuffin Band, and look over the lyrics to Peace.
I'll be here if you reply.

Incredible effort on all the musician's parts.

I'm glad music can inspire discussion on broader points. I appreciate those engaging in such discussion that do so in respectful candor.
I won't remove posts that fail in this regard, but ask that we maintain respect for interpretation of an artist's work.
