Anyone who puts down Senna knows very little. Remember that Senna drove a good car for 4 years out of a 10 year career. He won THREE titles in that 4 year periond. He had bad cars (or tires) in 84,85,86,87,92, and 93. Look at what he did in the bad cars...SET RECORDS! Who else did that? No driver ever.
@freewill51 Absolutely . Also 65 pole positions over ten years. That averages out as 6.5 poles EACH season. Took Schumacher TWELVE years to break that record. Senna still holds the record for the most Monaco wins- 6 victories there, a record that's never been beaten He was truly awesome.
"He established his own limits. When he reached those limits he wanted to beat them and establish new ones......I never new how far he could go,I had an understanding but i didn't know." Alain Prost Speaking About Ayrton Senna
@rayodetjuana hey champ at monaco gp that year if u remba the race was cut short at the end koz senna was flying mate and senna would of won but prost and the other girls out in front had a cry on radio to red flag race wich is a complituion of a race. if they didnt senna would of had them by the end of the race so if u wont to get all like stefan is a wet god like fuck senna has won more races in wet and done thing s in race car that f1 drivers still talk about. senna was a legend in wet

don't forget that McLaren was weak that season. Senna's car had no chance against the chassis of the Williams team. But he still won some races. You can really see where Senna goes full throttle and the others go off the throttle. THIS man was fearless, a hero for his country. Probably, he is now racing against Jim Clark in heaven :)
R.I.P Ayrton and all the other legends who died in Formula 1.
Weather forecast said the rain would stop during the race and most drivers set their cars up for mixed conditions, which wasn't the right choice. Senna had less power than the Williams Renault's drivers and gambled for a full wet setup (heavy rain tires and maximal wings), and that worked out like hell since it started to pour just before the start. Barrichello also gained 8 places making the same choice. But still, what a great great lap from the rain King !
For me that race was perhaps the greatest in history. The only other race to ever come close was the 1957 German Grand Prix where Fangio drove out of his skin to win after setting laps in the closing stages that were about 8 seconds quicker than his qualifying time!!
Yeah, right, so the traction control do it all alone?!?!?!?!! So was not the pilot that win, it was the traction control!?!?!?!!? Come on don't say bullshit...The Williams already had the traction control too, so why did not Prost win????And why are you comparising Senna whit Schumacher??? what's your point here??? By the way, i had never seen Schumacher doing in one lap what Senna did here...
As fas as I remember, he wanted to race for Williams since his very first "taste" of a Formula One car, in 1983 - when he drove a Williams car at Donington Park.
Even if he won in 1993 I'm certain he would have left anyway. It was obviously clear that the Williams was far superior and with Prost retiring in 1993, he definitely would have still taken his seat. McLaren got him his 3 championships but it was always his dream to drive for Williams. He called the FW14/15 the car from another world and offered to drive for the team for free. That's how badly he wanted to, only to be vetoed by Prost in 1993. Once Prost left, there's the open door.
@Conquerer13 It wasn't his dream to drive for Williams, otherwise he would have done it long before 1994. He just wanted a winning car. Williams did offer him his first F1 test, but didn't offer him a seat. 'probably my biggest mistake' -> F. Williams
Actually, he had a contract lined up with Williams for the 1992 season in late 1991. He knew Williams had the best car by this point and would have replaced Mansell, but Honda irked him to stay on board for 1992 and so he did. He was very smart and knew Williams were the best team for the future but his heart was with Honda. If not for that he could have won every championship till his retirement and likely would never have been killed. Honda really screwed him over in hindsight.
donninton93 was wet, but not as much as barcelona 92, in which schumacher was 2nd, only after super-williams of mansell, while senna crashed!! also in spa 92, schumacher gets his first victory, being in the rain much better than super-williams of nigel and ricardo, and of course better than senna. but barcelona 96 was much harder than donninton 93 and spa 92, with much more rain, and schumacher won with no electronic aids like senna had in 93, schumi was the greatest rain master!!
this is how a champion drives! I'm a more recent F1 fan, but this is when the drivers had phenomenal competition. Imagine battling Prost, Senna, Mansell or Piquet Sr. They are in league A while Schumi is in league A- . Schumi still is phenomenal though
Senna the Truly and the only one Rain Master, where is Schumi and Prost, nobody remember that kind of drivers. In this race Schumi spun off, Prost 3rd, 1 LAP behind Senna. That's all, Senna 1. The rest, who cares?
in 1984 monaco gp, senna start 13 and finished 2 with a toleman, and bellof start 20 and finished 3 with tyrell, stefan bellof take advantage to prost 4.5 seconds, and senna 4 seconds, stefan bellof its the rain god
Indeed, but Belof was driving a Tyrrel powered by a normally aspirated engine. Tyrrel was one of the slowest cars on he grid, but a way easier to drive than any other car in its time. Tyrrel sweet handling was an advantage on wet conditions.
True, and in Monaco having a normally aspirated engine was a huge advantage since they were ideal on slow and twisty circuits where progressive throttle control is king. In rain too, having a turbo car is tricky to say the least.
Now for the final revelation. The Tyrrell cars of 1984 were underweight throughout the season. Since it was discovered that Tyrrell had used lead bearings to make the cars pass the weight test, they lost ALL their results and points from the '84 season.
Short speaking, Bellof sat in an illegal underweight, normally aspirated car in Monaco, whereas the others used turbo cars which were very tricky to handle on dry circuits, let alone in Monaco (witness Rosberg's 1983 win there against much more powerful turbo cars) where the rain was pouring down.
Sure Bellof had talent, but his Monaco performance was hardly "proof".
@formulaonebr In fairness I believe that Bellof did have the potential to be one of the all-time greats, shame he died before his time. It would have been fascinating to see him compete amonngst what was already a golden era in F1
@rayodetijuana yeah, except Bellof and his team received a punishment due to irregularities in his car, it was lighter than the regulations allowed back then, thats why he was so quick
@rayodetijuana I'll skip the fact that Bellof was driving an atmospheric engine which is easier in the rain. You seem to think that in F1 everybody runs as fast as they can all the time, instead of calculating how fast they NEED to go. Bellof was good but the single fact that at one point of the race, he was half a second faster than Senna means nothing. It's false to assume that if the race went on and Bellof closed the gap, Senna couldn't increase his pace and keep his position.
Rubens Barrichelo has got an even better first lap than Senna , done a real great performance but he is not a great contender in wet conditions overall.
An only race may not be enough argument to a fair comparison...
@billaggio to me, was the best race of Barrichello from his carrer. Mediocre Carrier. But, what he made, was the same that senna has made in monaco 83 by tolemann car, and senna, made a amazing history on F1!
No he was not, at the 84' GP Monaco he had a better car than Senna (Senna rode the Toleman!). What is true however was that Stefan was really the only one who could match senna's pace. Very talented driver and a shame we could not see the legendary battle between Senna and Bellof in the 90's. It simply was not ment to be. RIP to probably the 2 most talented driver's F1 has ever seen.
Senna = Greatest ever F1 driver. Here's the proof. Just look at who he beat whilst he was in a slower car. The rain made any talent show. In Senna it showed alright! This is the greatest F1 lap ever.
Single finest racing lap ever driven in a GP car. Maybe Jackie stewart could disagree after his heroics round the ring in '68 but I wasn't born then...
in wet it means almost nothing having or not having traction control. In wet, the SKILL counts more... so dont use much of your imagination to lower the value of this incredible performace. Rubens, without traction control and in a Jordan, was in 4th in the same lap (he took even your shumi position).
Quando rivedrò qualcuno fare le stesse cose, allora, e solo allora, tornerò a seguire la F1.

but without any traction controls Senna was not as fast as Schumacher in barcelona 92, in wet, and finally Senna crashed while Schumacher was 2nd.
Following race in wet, Spa 92, Schumacher was better than anyone, better than Senna, MAnsell, and scored his first victory.
