It's almost unbelievable, looking back, as to the complete and utter lack of any safety precautions. No roll cage, no fire suit, no suitable barriers, no fuel cell, no helmets, no crush zones to save the driver cockpit. Even in 1965, most of these standards were not utilized or even thought of. It took Dale's death before the HANS device was invented, and that alone has saved countless lives in pro and amateur racing.

holy god almighty. I've never seen those old crashed like that before. Race car drivers had to be without fear back then. maybe they had a few belts before hittin the ole track. WOW!
