I think this collection is so breathtakingly beautiful. Delicate and refined, I especially love the 18th century inspired prints and matching shoes. The craftsmanship is out of this world and the designs are effortlessly twee, girly and subversive all at the same time and in the very best of taste. Of course there are always people who will find it hard to leave the past behind, let alone appreatiate a new and fresh asthetic. Maybe the're the ones who are in the dark?
Ever since Garavani retired, the house is not the same. Now, it is dark, sober, not the candy color, jet set, luncheon suit kind of woman. I notice that this is a trend among new designers taking over old fashion houses. It is always DARK!
You do realize that the Haute Couture customers are literally getting younger by the day? In addition, they are not interested in wearing couture that makes them look older, and i know it's a little bit exaggerated, and i LOVE Mr. Garavani, but many times his clothes made women look a little older. It was OK 10 years ago, but couture has changed. Valentino deserved a rest from being the best designer during 45 years, and the Valentino Brand needed something newer, fresher. They are perfect for it.
Women who can afford Haute Couture want to wear it every day and they need designers that can provide that for them. Cannot stress how much couture has changed, and it's inevitable. People HAVE to get over Garavani. He was the top of his game and retired being the top of his game. But its over now, and what the new designers are doing for the Valentino House is extraordinary.
The muse for this collection was marie antoinette, that is why some of the dresses are quite flimsy and light like her petit trianon style. But all in all it seems a little boring.
i love the workmanship and fabrics, however Valentino the company is dead. Saddest thing is that these designers dont stay true the fashion house. Yes have your own stamp but these women the real Valentino woman is not an antique flower, they are full of life, power, sex, passion, beauty, jet-set lifestyle...these girls are plain with expensive historic garments on. Sad. They need to rethink why this company was one of the best in Haute Couture
The last third of the collection is the most impressive. The entire middle is literally white noise with the opening third being just odd and costume-y.
the designers veered WAY too soft for this collection. The Valentino girl should have a bit more edge or sharpness to her look. Would it really have been too much to just ask for a flash of gold detailing in the buttons? Half of these dresses looked like nun's habits and the others looked like colonial era window draperies.
The spirit of the house is still there. Yet in a younger approach and attitude. Stunning, perfect.

What I love even more than the clothes is the models aren't tottering in extremely high heels
