love people like gsp who are open minded enough to learn something from anyone who legitimately has knowledge.. many pro fighters would dismiss rogan as simply a commentator but their aren't many people in the world as knowledgeable as him when it comes to mixed martial arts and thats why he makes such a great commentator.
It's a good move, but spinning techniques in general are incredibly easy to see coming if you are any good at picking up on telegraphs. And if you are, that leaves the person throwing those techniques in a very vulnerable position.
all I know is that Rogan ruined The Man Show, is one of the worst comedians I've ever heard, and is the second biggest douche in the UFC, right behind Dana "Douchebag" White.
best defense to a spin side is to side step left hook right behind the ear. or step in before the power is ever generated and just knock em down. I did that once as a defense to a spin heel, I ducked and stepped in, caught the back of his knee with my shoulder and stood up and dude went flying. before I had the ballz to step in I tried to step out and got my jaw broke. stepping in takes away the power and if they are spinning you have a direct line to their skull. a short hook or elbow, fin
Why doesn't Joe try fighting in the ufc? He seems to have very good technique and power. Maybe commentators make more money =P. Either way I'd like to see him fight in the octagon at least once.
@IncubiProtocoL He's said numerous times on his podcast that he doesn't fight because he isn't comfortable risking brain damage from all the striking. That's why he prefers to practice Jiu-Jitsu.
@MaaNonu123 Reading this I'm assuming you have not done any form of martial arts in your life and if you have you probably never got far with it because of that ego
@MaaNonu123 You think that? You really think GSP asked Rogan to show him his spinning back kick to not listen to him? GSP is not just pretending to be nice but being selfish and cocky. He really thinks he can learn from other people, and that why he is progressing so well
@CRonaldo7Skilz I think you're trying to say something I agree with (that GSP is NOT selfish, is NOT cocky, and is NOT just pretending to be nice), but your wording is just awkward enough to read as saying "He's not just pretending to be nice" but "is selfish" and "is cocky." I know more about English than martial arts, but even Tae Kwon Do can be useful if you pick and choose techniques and use them correctly, and I've certainly seen it be better than nothing in actual fights.
@NateHowl Nice im a not giving a fuck champ. Taekwondo is one of the most useless martial arts out there. That's why you don't see any strikeforce, WEC, or UFC (or any other high level mma league for that matter) fighters that are Taekwondo specialists.
Overall, Taekwondo is not that great but it has a few good techniques. Hence, the reason why GSP is learning a Taekwondo technique in this very video.
@NateHowl Why don't you get out of Rogan's ass because he is a retard that has never fought a professional MMA fight in his life. What in the world would he know? Also he over studies the fighters before commentating so that he can sound like some sort of genius. Like he will start to state random facts like "when this guy was 10 years old he broke his arm wrestling his brother".
@NateHowl No, I could be a much, bigger asshole. I'm just saying Rogan is not as smart as he seems. He just knows information, but no firsthand knowledge. I believe they should have a commentator with more first hand knowledge of mma. Like a former mma champ that is well spoken like the legend himself Randy Couture. Not some guy who did Taekwondo for a bit and gets high alot. Like how in NFL they have former NFL players as commentators.
I already knew Joe Rogan's credentials (black belt in Tae Kwan Do just for starters), but dang, teaching GSP on a certain technique?????? Man, nobody better step up to him again on the new x-factor, or somebody is going to feel the effects of a perfectly executed back kick;
@cjbogannam WTF????? How the hell did I put X-Factor????? or was it a test and your the first one to pass?????? (no, I effd up and put x-factor instead of fear factor, how noob of me)
Joe Rogan fought in TKD nationals. He is actually a very good TKD player. I have competed heavely in TKD and for the last 10 years been doing MMA and BJJ. Last two years a lot of western boxing. TKD kicks can be applicable to fighting. Out of every 100 TKD schools, only 1 trains kicks good. That one usually produces good kickers and national champions. Never hurts to incorporate TKD into muay thai, bjj, boxing, etc.
The thing is, is now a days anybody that wants to fight works wrestling, bjj, muay tai and boxing. Tkd kinda gets lost in the shuffle. But anybody that sees somebody that has high level tkd skills knows how effective I can be. Joe is legit no question. There's only so much time for training and fighters gotta choose what they're comfortable with and for tkd isn't one of those things. So, for a guy who hasn't done alot of it, it certainly looks new and amazing.
it's so funny to hear gsp talk about that like it's the most amazing thing. anyone who has taken tkd learns the mechanics of a proper side kick on the first day, and continualy drills it
@DrVoltage1 Look this up on Youtube: "Eddie Bravo's Mastering the System!" Episodes 16 and 17 feature Joe Rogan demonstrating some of his kicks on heavy bags and that BOB dummy! Also, just type in: "Joe Rogan Tae Kwon Do!" Those are just some of the ways I've found footage of him on Youtube! Hope you enjoy! (^_^)
GSP has serious humility. The guy is the UFC Welterweight Champion and he's eagerly learning a TKD technique and readily admits he was taught incorrectly (although he's a Karate black belt). No wonder everyone likes this guy.
He could be a little more fluid, but he obviously has good power and form. Rogan was making good points. Not to be a back seat driver, but GSP should be "pushing" more with his hip and don't need to lean his upper body back as much with his side push kick.
First of all Joe should throw all his long sleeve shirts away.. Cool tattoos! UFC fans can handle it...
Second... this floor is just nasty.. the gi comes handy right there mister Eddie Bravo! You don't have to wear it, put on the floor or what ever.. that thing is good to absorb sweat..
Can someone elaborate more on the difference between a back kick and a spinning or turning side kick? I was always taught to like kick like a donkey basically is how to kick for the back kick and to have your back to them while the turning side kick is just spinning or turning with a side kick? Dont you get a lot more power with stepping into a side kick and by pivoting the foot your not kicking with as well?
wow at about 5:35 or so Joe Rogan makes a great point about TKD the front side side kick is tough to developed but it is a great offensive and defensive move Bill "superfoot" Wallace was the master of this I got his book on kicking the whole thing is about this exactly. Superfoot would get the knee up and ready pulling his head away from his opponent with his knee ready to fire a kick he could do a side kick a round kick and a hook kick and combos hella badass kickboxing shit.
Rogan is a 1st degreee in TKD with a 2-1 record kickboxing record, four-time state champion and 1 time US open champ in Sport TKD.. the rest of his martial arts background is in grappling with 2 brown belts in ju-jitsu and a green belt in judo with a little Muay Thai thrown in. Not that his Muay Thai is up there with the likes of Master Surchai Sirisute. Master Surchai Sirisute could teach these UFC guys what real Muay Thai is all about. Master Surchai Sirisute is a street fighter.
GSP is a 3rd degree black belt in Kyokushin as well as a 1st degree Black Belt in Greg Jackson Martial Arts. He should already have this kick and already have it down pat. he started his training when he was a seven from his dad and later a Kyoklushin Master in Saint-Isidore, Quebec Canada. On this video he says he was taught the wrong way??? In one stroke he was disrespecting Kyokushin, his dad and his late Sensei.
@naumutroi Dude he said he learned one specific technique wrong. He probably learned 1000s correctly from his sensei. He's not disrespecting anybody. If you can't admit you learned something incorrectly it limits your ability to improve.
@kidcoach123 his exact words was he was not taught the right way. The way he was taught was the right way for his style. When doing a Yoko-Geri (side kick) using the ashigatana (footsword) you transport weight to the support leg. keeping the knees steady and slightly bent. You pull up the kicking foot up to a position in front of the knee of the supporting leg then you imediately strike out to the side pivoting on support leg foot and just as quickly return it to starting position.)
@kidcoach123 the way he was trained in Kyokushin by his dad and by his sensei was the RIGHT way for Kyokushin for the Yoko-Geri and its varients like the turning side kick. What he could have said, and maybe it is because of his grasp of english but what he should have said was he was taught a different way or that he was taught kyokushin style or japanese style. Korean style karate have a different way of kicking. Not wrong or right but a different way.
Being open and willing to learn is a great thing and should be encouraged BUT you also have a solid foundation otherwise you become a jack of all trades and master at none. Master Li Jun Fan (Bruce Lee) had a proper solid foundation of Wing Chun (from Grand master Ip Man), Yang style Tajiquan (from his dad), Fencing 9from his older brother) and Hung Gar (from friend) before he created Jun Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do and the beginning of modern day MMA.
does anybody know why this little ad is turning on and making all this fucking noise while i watch this video. seriously you cant even turn it off how fucking annoying
@gmd1417 It doesn't matter if it's a basic technique it still need a lot of repetitions even at the highest level, any top level competitor in any combat sport or martial arts has razor sharp fundamentals, because basic techniques are what really finishes the fights at a high percentage
@Radjhitoocool Joe Rogan is a TKD blackbelt, Georges isn't. Georges obviously wanted to learn how to do this move and asked Joe because he has more experience.
When will we see Joe rogan fight?? we knows he has all the tools and its he's job too know almost everything they do in the ufc he's smart and im sure strong so i would pay to watch joe lol.
GSP is training boxing with Freddie Roach, BJJ with Renzo Gracie, and spinning back kicks with Joe Rogan. LOL. Not bashing Joe here, it is just weird seeing him on the list with all time great trainers. Watching some of his TKD tutorials on Bravo's other vids, you can see why GPS came to him. It is undeniable that he has world-class TKD technique and knowledge on how it translates to MMA. There may be better, but how many can teach it in detail clearly and apply it to MMA as well as Rogan.
@Deathlist123 Who the fuck are you? You don't know shit, he is one of the best in the world. It doesn't matter who is the absolute best trainer, they are all better at different aspects of BJJ. You probably don't even TRANE UFC so STFU, fucking idiot. I also never said he is the absolute best, go read it again moron.
@THEDUDE1948 Yep - I thought it's weird before I've seen Joe throwing that kick. It's SICK power behind it and he's damn precise. here you don't see that so clearly as on his other video he demonstrates the kick, because it's too slippery and he can't get a proper grip on that. Look for: "Joe Rogan demonstrates the turning side kick" to see it done without skating on the sweat. It's unbelievable - this guy is a BEAST:)) I never would have guessed. he's so much power
@JJTechnologies hes a 4 time state tae kwan doe champ in ma and national open weight champ when he was younger, hes also a brown belt in bjj. Trained kick boxing lots of stuff check out his podcast, he sometimes talks about his experiences. plus its hilarious
In terms of pure TKD, Joe Rogan is one of the best competitors you're gonna find. The guy was the best TKD in America back in 87 or something like that. Rogan seriously knows his shit. One of those kicks would break an average dudes ribs.
That'd be so cool if he won his next fight with this kick. Then for the post fight interview Joe would be like, "so where'd you learn that kick George?"
@Jeroin yeah, but joe rogan is making it a lot more powerful now. remember when he nailed matt hughes with this? imagine if he nailed him with this new versioin. wham! haha
Because Gsps humble he learns from everyone if he knows that someone does something better than him no matter who it is he'll learn from them that's why he's the best and also Joe rogan is a very good mma practitioner think about it he trains nearly everyday with the best in the world how could he not be good
woh its weird seeing gsp being taught something like this, and how happy he looks at 5:03 when he gets it! lol great to know that fighters of his calibre are still constantly learning, and yeah imagine Joe if he finished Shields with that, haha! Joe and GSP FTW!!
@boci672 he is also a black belt and champion in tae kwon do, also brown belt in bjj

@gmd1417 It doesn't matter if it's a basic technique it still need a lot of repetitions even at the highest level, any top level competitor in any combat sport or martial arts has razor sharp fundamentals, because basic techniques are what really finishes the fights at a high percentage
rezwanborja 8 months ago
I'll bet if he was younger Rogan could kick some ass in the UFC. To be honest those kicks are really great/powerful.

i do this in tkd all time....
Radjhitoocool 8 months ago
@Radjhitoocool Joe Rogan is a TKD blackbelt, Georges isn't. Georges obviously wanted to learn how to do this move and asked Joe because he has more experience.

THEDUDE1948 10 months ago 25
@THEDUDE1948 for on renzos not the best , and joe is good af at bjj and mua thai
Deathlist123 6 months ago
@Deathlist123 Renzo is not a world class BJJ trainer? You are an idiot.
THEDUDE1948 6 months ago
@THEDUDE1948 i know that dumbass but hes not the best
Deathlist123 6 months ago
@Deathlist123 Who the fuck are you? You don't know shit, he is one of the best in the world. It doesn't matter who is the absolute best trainer, they are all better at different aspects of BJJ. You probably don't even TRANE UFC so STFU, fucking idiot. I also never said he is the absolute best, go read it again moron.
THEDUDE1948 6 months ago
@THEDUDE1948 lmfaoooo trane ufc? what kind of stupid shit is that u mean train mma? and i do u fucking retard ur fucking stupid af yo
Deathlist123 6 months ago
@THEDUDE1948 Yep - I thought it's weird before I've seen Joe throwing that kick. It's SICK power behind it and he's damn precise. here you don't see that so clearly as on his other video he demonstrates the kick, because it's too slippery and he can't get a proper grip on that. Look for: "Joe Rogan demonstrates the turning side kick" to see it done without skating on the sweat. It's unbelievable - this guy is a BEAST:)) I never would have guessed. he's so much power
JJTechnologies 6 months ago
@JJTechnologies hes a 4 time state tae kwan doe champ in ma and national open weight champ when he was younger, hes also a brown belt in bjj. Trained kick boxing lots of stuff check out his podcast, he sometimes talks about his experiences. plus its hilarious
nogripwantsurebabies 6 months ago
@THEDUDE1948
In terms of pure TKD, Joe Rogan is one of the best competitors you're gonna find. The guy was the best TKD in America back in 87 or something like that. Rogan seriously knows his shit. One of those kicks would break an average dudes ribs.

Jeroin 10 months ago
@Jeroin yeah, but joe rogan is making it a lot more powerful now. remember when he nailed matt hughes with this? imagine if he nailed him with this new versioin. wham! haha

Joe Rogan was a TKD instructor in Massachusetts and has fought on tons of tournaments back in the days
rezwanborja 10 months ago
Because Gsps humble he learns from everyone if he knows that someone does something better than him no matter who it is he'll learn from them that's why he's the best and also Joe rogan is a very good mma practitioner think about it he trains nearly everyday with the best in the world how could he not be good

woh its weird seeing gsp being taught something like this, and how happy he looks at 5:03 when he gets it! lol great to know that fighters of his calibre are still constantly learning, and yeah imagine Joe if he finished Shields with that, haha! Joe and GSP FTW!!
